Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 6, the final episode, gets a full in-depth analysis of the deeper themes and parallels with The Lord of the Rings. Why did Bran become king, and was that part of his plan all along? Why was the Iron Throne destroyed? Erik Voss explains the Game of Thrones ending, and how it connects to the longtime thematic threads throughout the 8 seasons. How is Dany's villainy inspired by real-world leaders? Where is Jon going in the final shot of the series? What is "west of Westeros" and why is Arya going there? How is the Iron Throne like the Ring of Power, and is Jon Snow Frodo Baggins?

Love you guys but... arent you upset by the ending?
Could also go a step further in the azor ahai prophecy. Similarly to tempering his blade in water, then the heart of a lion before killing nissa nissa, Jons combined forces defeated Ice(water) and Cersei (lion) before having to kill Dany (nissa nissa) to defeat the darkness. 3 attempts for each azor ahai.
A dwarf walked into a brothel with a honeycomb and a jackass.
The matron inquired and the dwarf said he would trade the jackass for a night with a whore. The matron agrees.
The dwarf then said he would trade the honeycomb for some food. The matron asked, why not just eat the honeycomb?
The dwarf said, the same reason I wanted to trade the jackass for a night with a whore. I'm tired of eating honeycomb every night.
Thanks eric and rockstar team. Im so happy you guys went to NY thats awesome. What evernyou guys have in store for ya down the road. Im excited because you guys are. Thank you
It was so thoughtful of Drogon to melt down the iron throne into a ramp for Brann.

When Tyrion finds Jamie and Cersei, he picks up a brick and bangs it on the rubble over and over again. It reminds me of the story of his cousin that would smash beetles. Tyrion could never understand the reason for his cousin's senseless destruction.... kind of like how he can't understand Danny's senseless destruction of the city.
I was thinking about that.

The joke about Tyrion not being in ASOIAF was so meta. Tyrion is George’s favorite character to write. He has more POV chapters than any other character. It’s another hint to take everything the Maesters say with a grain of salt.
👌🏽
Also several times it was mentioned that the histories are not always written accurately whether by winners omitting info or it being lost in translation., and we see this Maester may have just short changed the true account of what happened. I guess we never really know if it is best to have some history left untold.hmm.
Dragons are supposed to be really wise, so I wasn't all that surprised when Drogon appeared to recognize the Iron Throne as the true cause of his mother's death.
I agree, but not once in the whole series they showed or said that dragons are much intelligent than a dog. That comes from the books. So the timing of them showing that deep comprehension of the matter coming from a dragon in the last episode… it’s just bad writing.

I am not a big fan of this season's writing or ending, but this video really helped me hear out its underlying meanings. Great work
Right, it was nice to just hear him discuss it without all the extra ... Just enjoying the details.
My thoughts exactly! Thank you for shedding your wisdom amongst the negative criticisms.
Everyone would have been okay with the exact same ending if this took place over 10 episodes
Jaime and Dany's turn should have been more fleshed out during the season instead of only 2 episodes
100% agree
@@Joelispresent 100% disagree why stretch it any longer?
@@nuckynelson 4 more episodes wouldn't have been stretched thin though.. it would've been sufficient for the story to have more
I think, after thinking a lot ... That maybe more episodes would have yes given us more explanation but with more explanation comes more story and I guess attempting to get more thorough would have then opened more holes that could not be filled.
IMHO, I felt like everything that happened in episodes 4-7 should have happened earlier in the season with the Battle of Winterfell ending the series.
Eric Voss is the best! His reviews are one of the few i enjoy. Other reviewers just rant and complain....he puts so much time in this. THANK YOU!

At 13:20 I liked how you pointed out that Drogon rising in the west on his way to Essos with deceased Daenerys fulfilled the Daenerys prophecy “When the sun(son) rises in the west and sets in the east"
Also, all the Dothraki leaving the Dothraki Grass Sea to sail to Westeros fulfilled "When the seas go dry"
And the Mountain & the Hound falling into the fire & burning to ash fulfilled "and mountains blow in the wind like leaves."
Well spotted Kalaya.
Looking way too into it lol
You can craft any old ideology into a fact, if you try hard enough.
Sometimes the best writers and teachers of the subject craft a creation to their own believing. Basically you’re making a stretch here.
for all people complaining about the writing, it takes some genius to be able to tie this all together especially w/o the benefit of the books being finished. only complaint should be they could have made more episodes to let it play out longer but it is not hard to connect the dots either.
I still can’t believe Grey Worm didn’t kill Jon Snow on the spot after finding out he killed Daenerys. How exactly did he ‘confess’ his crime to Grey Worm? Accompanied by the few Northmen?
I don't know why Jon didn't just go home to Winterfell when Drogon flew away with the evidence.
I've seen more wheelchair jokes about this ending than I have my entire life lmao
How does Bran keep from rolling downhill? He brakes the wheel.
@@riparianlife97701 Your a MESS!!! LOL

Patricia Simeza-Nkhoma ever since I started watching his videos, I pay attention to every score that plays on screen. Really is a piece of art in its own right.
"What's west of Westeros?" Just ask Bran he's probably been there many times.
honestly, i wasn't sure how i felt about this episode when i watched it, but this recap made me feel a lot better about it! 😅
It was shit, not much more to it
It was a solid ending actually, it was realistic. Don't listen to the triggered little fanboy that didn't get his imaginary ending. 🤷🏻♂️
@@Caramelflamel Yeah it's so realistic that people will accept a sellsword being master of coin and Lord of highgarden. So realistic that everybody clowned Tyrion for being an imp and made him refrain from being a king but are gonna accept a cripple and "non human" king. Jesus Christ try harder.
no. i prescribe immediate watching of better critical reviews. stat! this one is going into apologist cardia.
Laurence Laurin ---It has helped because I couldn’t decide whether I was more bored or depressed. I love LOTR, so the comparison along w/fade to back was pretty cool.
And just like Frodo leaves with the elves because of a wound that will never heal, Jon leaves with the wildlings to the land beyond.
My favorite part was when Tyrion smash the rock on Cersei's head to make sure she's dead..😂😂😂
JP Neri coo coo coo coo *smash* *smash*
He didn't 🤦♀️
This season was so disrespectful to these GOT characters. Dany spent 8 seasons going through trials and tribulations freeing entire cities along the way but in one episode she's mad and a danger to the entire world? Now that she's dead who will control the Dothraki? Who will stop the slavers/masters from returning to power? Cersei been having ppl killed for 8 seasons yet somehow Dany is worse?
Lol its so stupid, they ruined everything
Could also go a step further in the azor ahai prophecy. Similarly to tempering his blade in water, then the heart of a lion before killing nissa nissa, Jons combined forces defeated Ice(water) and Cersei (lion) before having to kill Dany (nissa nissa) to defeat the darkness. 3 attempts for each azor ahai.
Jon was Azor Ahai! He defeated the evil and brought forth Lightbringer - Drogon- who obliterated the Iron Throne- prophesied
Jon is not Azor Ahai, the prophecy is connected to The Long Night, he can be either a hero or a villain who caused it (Bloodstone Emperor). It's connected to the Birth Of Dragons, eclipse, meteors and a lot of cool stuff, not iron chair and a cRaZy lady.
@@ocandro Despite of what he might say to this season, even GRRM said you should take prophecies metaphorically and not to literal.
@@luisab5726 that's exactly what I'm doing, it still doesn't really fit, but similar things happening in the books could definitely fulfill the prophecy, with proper context. Even if Danys madness was explained by destroyed balance between Ice and Fire and the equally terrifying Long Summer was to ensue, it would make more sense, though it still leaves out Dragons (probably metaphorical) awaken from stone. Beavis&Butthead were never strong on symbolism, magic, mysticism etc.
@@ocandro There may be multiple azor ahai
Thanks for emphasising why Jon being a Targaryen actually was crucial.
nope. anyone could have got past Drogon and approached Dani who bothered to befriend the dragons. Tyrion made friends with them in Essos. And i'm sure Greyworm could have ran up and down all day in front of the dragon. Blood was NOT necessary. When Jon befriended them, his blood admittedly made it easier, but it was not necessary considering how much time he spent with them and the Queen. Jon being Targaryn was actually pointless.
DEAR GOD'S THIS MAN'S BREAK DOWNS ARE DEEP AF!
In the books there was a King Brandon that sailed West, but was never seen again, and his son in his grief burned the northern fleet making them Bran the Shipwright and Bran the Burner respectively
A very positive interpretation of this episode...🤔
Since it’s EAVoss I’ll take it. 😀
Yeah. I strongly agree. I watched other reviews of the GOT ending and they are too negative and depressing. But this is one is the best.

same with me
so, greyworm who watched his only love beheaded and his queen that he'd fight and die for stabbed, was looking like he was in a revengous state of mind and then suddenly he's standing there with honor while listening to strangers discuss whos next in power??? and all those screamin dothraki must have vanished like the white walkers did when the night king was killed i'm to assume I guess..lol
Fantasy Ending for Jon Snow fans. Greyworm would have killed him, and Tyrion too.

@Tamara Magdalene that's pretty funny actually. Got a good chuckle out of me.
This episode feels more like a season finale rather than a series finale.
One small detail I noticed that I never did before is that they've told us since season 1 who would win the Game of Thrones! On the season 1 poster of Ned sitting on the iron throne with Ice, there is a raven sitting to his right side (left side of the picture) symbolizing the winner as Bran or the three eyed raven.

Did anyone else wonder if Jaime and Cersei would have survived, if they had just embraced a few metres away? 😂
I mean, it seemed like the bricks were from nowhere - the ceiling looked fine when Tyrion found them. 😜
hukuando or if they would have decided to hide in the big F-ing dragon Skull.
yeah because humans have time pause powers they can freeze time and decide as the brick fall. 🤦🏻♂️
Even still, Jamie would have bleed out and died within a few hours. Then over the course of a few weeks(provided oxygen could seep through all the rubble) cerci would have to cannibalize Jamie. Probably dying of some crazy food poisoning from eating rancid people meat.
