Williams Guard - Shoulder Pin Trapping System For BJJ & MMA
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 чер 2024
- The Williams Guard is a trapping guard for BJJ & MMA, also known as the Shoulder Pin, popularised by Shawn Williams & Neil Melanson respectively. The Williams Guard is set up off an overhook from closed guard; it can then be used to keep the opponent's posture broken while setting up chokes and submissions.
In the breakdown, we look at the setups for the three major attacks, the armbar, triangle choke and omoplata. Also, we look at the counters to the position and why it was removed from the 10th Planet system.

Thank you so much- I never miss your videos! I'd love to see your Williams to Octopus Guard transition... and I don't think I'm alone 🙂
Coming soon!
I watched all of your videos, can't wait for the next one. Especially some heavyweight-bjj/catchwrestling stuff would be awesome
Cheers! Will have more to come for sure!
Awesome stuff! I love playing this (as Shoulder pin guard) especially very useful against stronger opponents with good posture. Thanks for sharing Sonny!
Right on!
Really cool video, I was recommended the Williams Guard for MMA years ago and have never found any good information on it til now. Big thanks for uploading it.
Thanks mate, glad you found the video helpful 👍
Still waiting on cow catcher my brother! But awesome vid nonetheless.
Thanks mate, you know what Cow Catcher could be next, seen it popping up a lot more in BJJ lately.
Sonny Brown Don’t forget to combine it with reverse full-Nelson.
@@RichardYu1983 Yep, Ive got most of the clips, will cover Cow Catcher, Reverse Full Nelson and the 100% sweep in the same video.
Sonny Brown Bless you brother. “Takedown Breakdown” is a fan of your channel.
Educational and awesome video as always, can’t wait for next one 🙌
Thank you 🙏
Great vid!!!
Great stuff thanks
excellent video.
Nicee can't wait to try this
This channel has some of the best technique breakdowns anywhere. Awesome work!!!
Thank you!
so the "pinwheel pass" just seems like hes turning into the omoplata, then using the jump over escape to pass. couldnt this just be stopped the standard way of reaching over the back of their waist to grip the far hip? and then youd still have the omoplata. (im probs missing something here)
Good question, so it could be stopped in the standard way, but if you keep the frame locked around the leg then you won't have that arm available to block.
I was gonna comment this as well. I've had way more success with Williams Guard in NoGi over Closed Guard and Rubber Guard (some people are too large). The "counter" just seems like it only works if I'm asleep at the wheel. It feels like a great guard to me so far, and if I get countered/reversed then it was all my fault.
Can you show your transitions from williams guard to octopus, etc?
Great video man! What ever happend to gambledub?
I still see him comment occasionally, I'll say that the breakdowns and research do take a lot of time so I understand why hemay have stopped with those.
How do you go from williams guard to Octopus guard?
I plan on doing a video on that later!
@@SonnyBrown Great!
💪
Cheers !
I believe London was added 'back' into Eddie's system
Interesting, I thought I had seen it being played a bit more recently. Was it a recent development?
@@SonnyBrown I think he removed London ( actually Shawn Williams Guard or Shoulder Pin guard ) around 2008, but it has been 'rediscovered' over the past several years apparently.
