China has an whole industrial chain to produce these kind of "mac clone" laptops, when the whole market is big enough, laptop manufacures will just have lower unit cost on each devices, and even gets the ability to add "little twicks" for companies who want to stick their brand to these devices. My point is that, there is a reason why Xiaomi or Realme can come up with very competive devices, and the operation behind is much different from traditional ways to design and engineer a device.
@@vondahe realme started off as a branch of OPPO, to act as a competitor to Xiaomi's Redmi budget line of phones in india. But then it became so big and popular that it became its own separate company. Hence that's why the naming stuck and it WAS initially designed to copy Xiaomi's naming scheme.

That was a bit irritating and seems odd given that I'm sure majority of your viewership is based in North America. The i5 version is $800 and you directly compared it to another laptop in this video but the title suggests you are discussing the $650 i3 variant which is misleading.
This looks incredibly similar to Huawei's/Honor's Magicbook line. Those were really good laptops as well. Wouldn't be surprised if Xiaomi/Realme just used Huawei's parts and basically "copied" their design.
Xiaomi and Realme are entirely different companies. I think you got it confused with Redmi which is a Xiaomi sub-brand. Relame is part of BBK eletcronics, along with Oppo, Vivo, Oneplus and Iqoo.
Huawei and Realme laptops are made from a same Taiwanese ODM called "Pegatron" (formerly part of ASUS), which used to make MacBooks before Apple discovered they were abusing workers to an extreme degree, even employing children to work overtime for less than local minimum wages. Protesting workers were publicly beaten and silenced by the Chinese police, this was only last November 2020. The maltreatment likely still goes on today under the radar of lax Chinese policy and "overwork until death to survive" culture over there. Which is partially why these laptops all resemble the MacBook, and also why they can afford to sell overseas for so little value. I would NEVER buy them out of principle.
As much as I like this product and love the fact that it is Dave approved, I just can't accept the 8GB RAM. If that was 16 or atleast upgradable, man I would've bought this without blinking.
Well... The screen has the rubber edge, the bezel is 2-3 times thinner than a macbook air/13"pro, the bottom is different (more like an XPS), the fingerprint is in a different place, the hinge goes all the way back. The keyboard is similar but its not exactly the same, it looks like any other windows laptop keyboard, its just the black on aluminum that makes it the same. Yes, the inspiration from the macbook is definitely there, but how original can you get with an all aluminum chasis. The design works to keep the device thin and it just doesn't have any flare other than the logo. Even the corners are less rounded than the macbook's. I think it holds its own. Its just a good looking budget laptop from what I saw in the video.
Realme, a sister company of OnePlus, is selling their first laptop at such a low price for the same reason the OnePlus One phone was cheap; it is to build a market. Before long, Realme laptop will cost north of $2000.

Hey Dave, thank you so much for all the work you do. You’re one of the best reviewers out there, watched your content for years. Wanted to ask what your thoughts about a new Laptop from Dell. It’s the Dell Inspiron 16 Plus 7610 Laptop for £1300 in the UK and $1600 in the US. Has an 11th Gen i7 H series chip, upgradable RAM/SSD/Wi-Fi card, 3K matt 16 : 10 IPS display and a RTX 3060 card.
Love the videos. This is a great device but when you talked about the design of the laptop I was curious more about how would you design a windows laptop and what features would you include to make it what a consumer wants.
Lenovo Ideapad Flex 5 can be opened with 1 hand BTW. I've had it for 6 months, A GREAT laptop for those who are looking for a budget laptop. My specs are 16gb, 512gb ssd, intel 5 11th gen. Price was around 800 dollars
My first impression of the laptop was ' It looks so much similar to Apple Macbook pro ' . The track pad , the screen size , the color , everything matches with the macbook pro design . I know that laptops have a very limited design range but making a laptop this similar to other one raises questions . I might be totally wrong , but I think they might have pulled out used macbook pro's screen and chassis and just fit their own components inside of it and that's how they managed to cut its cost. Have a look at it and please do tell me if you too think the same .....
I doubt they use used macbook parts. Designing the product, including rnd alone cost a lot, which realme saved just by copying apple's design. There are also factors like production cost, some parts depending on shape and quality of material, or other factors will cost more to produce, that's why they couldn't make it look entirely the same. Besides the design they copy from mac isnt simply the outer look of it like the keyboard and the whole aluminum body, I'm assuming even the interface and all is also copied, even the inside looks alike with the 2 fans and how the heat sink connects to both fans like that, and the battery compartment at the bottom. The single battery pack design is similar to the older macbook pro where it has a part plastic casing that allows it to be screwed down. All these design take a lot of resources. As he mentioned he battery probably didnt last longer despite having the same spec, most likely because of the software than the hardware difference, those software requires a ton of rnd to reach the kind of efficiency mac has.
This laptop (as well as its Huawei identical twin) are in fact made by a manufacturer called Pegatron who used to make Macbooks for Apple. Looks like they’ve repurposed their factory, originally commissioned by Apple, to make cheap Macbook clones for other companies like Realme and Huawei.
I have an honor magic book 14. Ultra light, ultra specced, excellent battery life. Recommend you check those out too if you're in the market for a new ultrabook. Excellent value for money as well
I would be curious to find out where the cuts were made. It really appears that they didn’t sacrifice much on the outer case, display and input. Side-note: comparing the trackpad on a budget Windows PC with a Mac is like comparing a varsity track champion with an Olympian. What I have found is that the sacrifice can be found when it comes to the internal components. They may source the SSD, RAM and battery from smaller, unknown manufacturers.

@@IvanPrskalo i mean the M1 chip itself is a first gen product in apple's product line so it still fits. As for other first gen stuff like the Mac and the Iphone they were both also bangers
@@krazymeanie Reason not to buy Apple first gen product is the 2nd gen will be like two times better/more powerful.
Yeah but imagine sinking to the level where you try to sound like the name of the world’s leading spyware pusher, Xioami. That’s just sad.
Between Realme and Framework, it's nice to see notebook companies stepping up and innovating forward.
This video was pretty nice. Since you weren't really comparing it with other laptops, not having the table was a great choice!
well its kinda nice if he compare to another laptop with same price for buyers. its fine for people that like to watch review time to time because they kinda know other laptop
As someone who doesn't care about the design, this is great.
The amd version if they ever release that would be fire 🔥

How on earth all current laptops are not AMD top to bottom? This is a no-brainer for me. They even provide a support program for more of the compatibility with other of their mobile components - so it could work amazingly as a set.

The trackpad scratches at a level 2 with deeper grooves at level 3
Dave: I tried to scratch it with a knife but that's not the best test.

Hey Dave, pls check out the Pavilion Aero & Victus!!🙏🏻
If only Realme put in a 5600U, it'd have been so much better🤦🏻♂️
Pavillion aero: Garbage QC, lots of wifi issues. Overpriced for what you pay, at that point a 850 dollar M1 air is much better deal.
Victus: It's okay. But HP marketed it too hard.
There's your review.
@@zen608 what if I don't want a Mac, and want more than 8GB RAM?
I love glossy screens. I truly don’t like matte screens it makes it look less premium and it feels cheap
Great video aside from the fact that you waited until the end of the video to mention that the product isn't available in North America. That was a bit irritating and seems odd given that I'm sure majority of your viewership is based in North America. The i5 version is $800 and you directly compared it to another laptop in this video but the title suggests you are discussing the $650 i3 variant which is misleading.
Dave: I dont know how they are selling these for $650
Me: *Cries in asian currency*
This looks incredibly similar to Huawei's/Honor's Magicbook line. Those were really good laptops as well. Wouldn't be surprised if Xiaomi/Realme just used Huawei's parts and basically "copied" their design.
Xiaomi and Realme are entirely different companies. I think you got it confused with Redmi which is a Xiaomi sub-brand.
Relame is part of BBK eletcronics, along with Oppo, Vivo, Oneplus and Iqoo.
They all just want it to look like a macbook.
@@amaltom8948 every company in ch!na is same, they have "good bonding" and look after each other.
@@amaltom8948 you're right, my bad. Thanks for the clarification :)
As much as I like this product and love the fact that it is Dave approved, I just can't accept the 8GB RAM. If that was 16 or atleast upgradable, man I would've bought this without blinking.
Yeah I have a nitro 5 2021 model the battery life is shit but upgradable ram and stuff and I can probably upgrade the battery so it will last longer.
Yea 8gb is way too low in this day and age. Doesn’t say much for its longevity.

I’m from the future and can confirm that the laptops still have 720 webcam whilst the resolution is at 12k.
Me: Did he remove the table again?
**Few seconds later*
Me: Oh there it is, thank god.
This dude is obsessed with that Optimus Prime😂
Realme, a sister company of OnePlus, is selling their first laptop at such a low price for the same reason the OnePlus One phone was cheap; it is to build a market. Before long, Realme laptop will cost north of $2000.

Looks very similar to the Huawei Matebook D14, which is another very very good device. I own a Matebook 14 (higher tier than the D14) and for 1000€ it's a crazy good value. These laptops are getting good
Upgradable Ram would have been a cherry on top of the cake
Hey Dave, thank you so much for all the work you do. You’re one of the best reviewers out there, watched your content for years. Wanted to ask what your thoughts about a new Laptop from Dell. It’s the Dell Inspiron 16 Plus 7610 Laptop for £1300 in the UK and $1600 in the US. Has an 11th Gen i7 H series chip, upgradable RAM/SSD/Wi-Fi card, 3K matt 16 : 10 IPS display and a RTX 3060 card.

This device is very well priced in India. Because premium laptops from any brand costs around 1.3x - 1.4x in India than the Western side.
Why wouldn't anyone just spend 5k extra and get a ryzen 5 IdeaPad 5 with a miles better keyboard is beyond me. Or the flex 5 for touch
What's the cost in India?

Discovered your channel yesterday and you make great videos.
That intro though..

Experience has taught me, never buy a 1st Generation of any product.
That is applicable mostly to Apple.
Other companies use lower price as marketing, so my strategy with this laptop would be "grab it while you can".
@@real_andrii Wouldn't say its applicable to apple since most of their 1st Gen stuff always blows the tech industry up. For example the M1 macs
Dude, that is NOT first generation product. It is for Realme. But factory that produces those works for Huawei too, and look it up, Huawei Matebook x Pro it the same exact product, but from two or three years ago.
However, other brands will make next gen a little improved and you won't regret so much about buying first gen right away.
I am not saying that Apple is bad at launching new products, I only mean they intentionally underpower first gen products so you wanted to buy the second gen when it comes out.
For M1 it is gaming: practically non-existent.
It would've been nice if they have a ryzen version 🛐
