I had it since beta, it was OKAY then. Good but not great. It is finally great. Just went on vacation with my wife and periodically during lulls I would think about this game. WTF? AS you did it again
Joe Mad and the art team knocks it out of the park every time. I really miss their turn-based RPGs though, hope they make one of those again in the future.
I’ve played this game long enough to level Lora, Venomess, and Senja to max. It is a very good third person RPG that came right at a time when I was getting tired of the really tedious stuff about MMOs, while still enjoying their character building systems and combat. I can’t think of many (or any, really) other action RPGs that feel like MMOs, while being playable offline AND with friends. I don’t think this can be a “forever game” without more content and endgame systems, but i am pretty sure you can get a good 100-200 hours out of it if you end up enjoying the combat and loot chasing.
Since you seem to be coming from an mmo standpoint, how is the healing if you've tried it out. Healing is my favorite role but getting into an mmo is such a task now that I'm older. Would this be able to scratch my healing itch?
@@imALazyPanda It might. I also main healers in MMOs. There are two characters that can party heal: Venomess and Wingrave. Venomess is more of a DPS character and Wingrave is more of a tank. Also both do their healing as a result of their special abilities which either provide defense for them and the party, or do lots of damage to enemies. I haven't played Wingrave very much, but I have saved my friend's life with Venomess quite a few times. Also all characters of an archetype share the same talent tree. All characters of the Warmaster archetype (the warrior types) can get a special passive that provides a little party healing when using any ability. All in all, I'd say healing in this game is fun, just not as in-depth or important as in a typical trinity MMO. I also feel that the self-healing-capable characters (all the Warmasters and Venomess) are the best solo classes for harder content, but any of them can do it.
@imALazyPanda Omni pretty much covered everything. I'll add that there are also support weapons that you'll come across like Bastion or Legacy, that add a whole layer of support to a healer as well. Any character can use these weapons but in the hands of a support character, they're legendary. It's fairly easy to pick up and play with 0 fear of missing out tied into it.
@@omniaesthetic1256 ahh so there is not a typical healer more long the lines of the mmo trinity. I might still check out this game, but man if I'm not always looking for something that can really scratch that MMO healing itch without the baggage of an MMO. I just want to play health bar whack a mole .
Nice to see you talk about this game! I think it's great fun, both solo and co-op. The devs are to be commended for turning it around after all the drama with Digital Extremes. Will look forward to your deeper dive.
Ive been playing this game for a long while now, im happy to see you cover this game as it will give it more exposure. i truly appreciate this. What made me fall in love with this is game is that they converted a greedy microtransaction filled MMO into an offline action RPG that has a alot of veriety and playstyles which i love in action RPGs. I would suggest everyone to give this game a try if you want a great action RPG experience.
I remember playing when it was a sorta mid MMO. It was definitely playable then but not much more than that. Glad they turned things around this looks good
Got this a few days ago, and it's the most fun I've had with a game in a LONG time. If you have a friend or two to play with it's even better. I hope this game gets the attention it deserves.
The real key to having the most fun and experience the abilities that are unique to this game are in fact that as you unlock more of the characters through progression of the story, you can actively switch which character you are. This is true even while in combat. That means you have the ability to maximize your effectiveness especially against boss fights where there is a lot that goes into the system of resistances, buffs, and combat styles. For me that is what made this game so much fun.
I’m excited to see more content in general! The post have been keeping me entertained all day this week every time I get some free time popping on one of your videos!
I had this game wishlisted waaay back when the game was just announced. I waited with trying it out when it was f2p and I'm glad I did. Yesterday I purchased it and I plan to have fun with it. What sold me was "It's Darksiders 1/2 with mounts". I didn't even waited for a sale because Airship Syndicate is a studio that deserves money in my eyes. So far I enjoyed all their games and Darksiders Genesis for me is the true Darksiders 3, but it's not surprising since the studio has both devs and the creator of Darksiders franchise itself Joe Mad.
Didn't know anything about this game, so I'm very glad you took the time to make a check out video because it looks fun. Not sure yet whether I want to buy it for myself, so I'll likely wait for your deeper video in January.
Been playing it for about 2 weeks now and it's quite amazing, really enjoying all the systems, customization and whatnot. Combat is pretty amazing. The game is gorgeous and the music really add to that. The game only flaw would be the size of the world which is very very small, now there are 3 areas and I'm still at the first one so I don't know what I can expect on following worlds but the game is mainly a dungeon diving type of game so it hasn't tarnished my impression much. Still love it, you also reach max level pretty quickly and there aren't many abilities per character but I hope the devs will improve all that if they can. A very much Warframe-like game in a fantasy world.
I was having fun with this solo, then waited to play with friends. It's even better with friends! I do wish I could have multiple save files, but I'm liking what's here.
I am not one to leave UA-cam comments but I started this game around a month ago and absolutely love it! I personally love transmog from WoW and the customization in this game is fantastic, with so many character choices to fit the style you like. Highly reccomended! The side quests get surprisingly deep as well, making me feel sad, cheer, and occasionally annoyed due to length but overall I have very little issues with the game. Main story is good as well, while it may not be story telling like God of War or some other ARPG it has kept me playing for hours on end. Check it out!
Subbed. I picked it up and am having a really good time w the game. I love the art direction , voice work is quality, and gameplay is fun. There is a lot to like about this game.
Character 5 stars unlocks 2nd boss echo slot. Weapon 5 stars unlocks a 2nd boss echo slot for weapon. Artifacts placed in housing give global buffs for all Characters. Influences placed on dungeon/boss runs change the resources that drop and events in area. Characters can use any weapons. Echoes can swap between characters without penalty. Lvl of weapon doesn't prevent Character equipping.
Really enjoy what I’ve played so far. Love being able to swap characters when I need to, haven’t yet managed to beat a boss fight as Niss, but luckily there’s always Wingrave.
Fantastic game. I bought it earlier this week and haven’t been able to put it down! If you are into ARPG’s then this game will likely blow you away! So much content for a really low price by today’s standards.
I played it back when it was still an mmo-lite type of a deal, I had a fun & played it mostly single player. Decent experience as long as you don't want the best combat or story, I think the price is fair for the content it offers.
i got this game a few days ago... insane value for 25 dollars its crazzyy. the world/artstyle is just astoundly good. combat is fun and the gearing/loot systems seem good so far
I had a lot of fun with this one. Combat was easy to pick up and looks flashy I think it would have been better if you could fully make your own character instead of picking one and if the game had more going for it than the raids you do in the warp points Could have been a great, just needed to work out the details to keep players coming back
The game is not perfect but I haven't had this much fun in a looong time. I hope it gets more sales so the devs can continue supporting this hidden gem!
This one is giving me some Wildstar flavour, and I LOVED that game (even if if was WILDLY problematic with its monetisation and management before it was shut down). For
bought the game then later the supporters pack just in hopes of helping the team break even and maybe get them to be able to consider some sort of sequel in the future. this game has so much promise I would love to see them make another game for this IP with dlc and all that
Well worth it, came in this not prior to 1.0. Got it and enjoyed it initially, got a copy for my partner and we've cleared it together. It has it's flaws still but for its price, it's very fair.
Awesome review I do really love your reviews and your content and Wayfinder is pretty fun I was on the fence about playing it but it’s pretty fun game U put it on story mods cause I need to beat a boss tho but it’s a manageable game
It's fantastic, the early game is not giving a good impression of how much game there is. Lots of cool stuff to farm and do. Also, an ability based, cooldown heavy, ranged character plays very different to a 2h weapon power character or a crit based dagger char. Also number 2, you can slot echos, some of which have skills of their own, which have prerequisites to proc, for example jump attacks, giving you more abilities then the ones on your bar.
I have been playing it since early access and really enjoyed it when it was a multiplayer game. I am not sure I would have called it an "mmorpg". It was more of a mp lobby game like Vindictus. The stuff you did with groups of people in the open world was very sparse and the instances were small pop so it never felt like a real MMORPG. I just reinstalled it the other day as I wanted to check it out now that it's a new sp/co-op game. I am glad you looked into it. I agree that it is fairly generic, hero arpg, but as you say, the movement and combat are fluid and high quality. To me, those are very important as I find some arpgs clunky in one or both.
Airship syndicate has made some awesome games. Both battlechasers night war and the ruined king are fantastic turn based RPGs. Darksiders Genesis is a great action Zelda like that capped off the Darksiders franchise. I purchased this based on their history. The game is ok, but doesn't live up to the standard set by those games imo.
Nice video as alwyas! I just read that Sea of Stars had a massive update that could fix the repetitive combat you cited in your review, I would love to hear your opinion on that when you have some time to go back to that title :)
Fuck, if Airship is capable of Wayfinder, I wish for a full remake of Darksiders 1, 2,and ESPECIALLY 3 before Darksiders 4 and anothe Genesis spinoff and a sequel Battle Chasers. Kinda hope Battle Chasers get an old Dragon Age type of gameplay or FFVII remake type of game it kinda suits Battle Chasers
Wish I had people to play this with, played beta, got it when it first dropped, single player is, playable, but it'd be a lot better with a 2nd (or 3rd)
Howdy howdy Mort. I hope you are doing well. I've loved Airship Syndicates games alot. I have had a lot of faith in them over the years. And as a rpg fan, I would definitely suggest you eventually check out Battlechasers Nightwar and Ruined King: A League of Legends Story.
Thanks for the video. It looks nice, but as an ARPG I'm worried that it will be buttonmashy. I'll just be spamming the same 3 hit combo over and over again. Onward to 400k. All glory to the algorithm.
I definitely will man. Im really just posting this to drive up engagement, I heard commenting helps channels. Not that you need the help. Im overthinking this huh? Bye.
It wasn't meant to be an MMO it was meant to be a free-to-play live service game, and was published (at the time) by Digital Extreme (the folks behind Warframe) and the launch was so disastrous that DE shut down their publishing arm and set Wayfinder loose.
From my point of view the change from the original version "mmo" to later "single player" version didn't seem that significant. In some ways at least. What I disliked about the original version was that it was intentionally tuned to be tediously grindy despite the combat feeling and looking good. So if they didn't greed for money the game would have been better from the get-go. In my opinion. Granted I don't know what happened on the business side of things, it's just that the issue with praising redemption arcs is that someone had to do things badly (intentionally or otherwise) to then "fix" what should have been good from the start. And I mean this in a general way not just this one game. P.S. Bought it before the switch up and don't necessarily regret owning it.
Kinda criminal how little attention this game is getting. Definitely has some Kingdoms of Amalur vibes. Digging the classic WoW/tech vibe and music. All the systems feel pretty satisfying. I wish more people were playing this as getting random groups can be tough. I’ll some times have one other player join. But that’s about it and it doesn’t happen as often as I’d like. But I’m having a great time with this!
It’s really fun but it runs horribly on the PS5. Stutters and freezes all the time. Sometimes it just hangs up and needs to be restarted. I would wait till the performance is fixed.
I disagree. By the time you reach endgame there is a huge amount of build diversity between all the characters skills, abilities, talent trees and weapons.
Yeah most of your build is balancing passive stat upgrades of echoes and equipments, it's sparse in terms of active abilities or truly unique weapons. Still had a fun couple dozen hours with it, but after leveling 4 characters to max I didn't have much desire to really explore the builds more. My most wanted future features for the game would be seamless switching between 2 weapons mid-combat and each character having more than 4 abilities to choose from.
It's crazy to me that gamers now are okay with 5 active abilities for 300hrs worth of play time. I'm not sure why getting +5 Strength over and over is so satisfying for people
I'd say if anyone was looking for an Overwatch PvE, this is it. However that is part of the issue of progression as you are stuck to a few skills. Then again, it is easy to switch characters or weapon at any time if you want something different for the evening or extended period. Ultimately there aren't any spikes in power when you level up. More like your character can perform better and you can use stronger echos you put on your gear (like gems in Diablo) buffing what you want by a few points. Once you unlock the 4 abilities of your character that is it unlike other RPGs where you fill a large skill bar except you can buff the 4 skills yuu have. So no list of skills however you aren't bound to any particular weapon so you can mix up the play style though characters will lean more toward a certain play style than others. There is a skill tree and it is like permant echos with some being larger passive abilities. There is another tree to focus your character with a few perks which relate to the gear you wear. Not visual gear and the buffs relate to columns and rows of the gear and the better they match the betrer you accumulate power. All tech points can be refunded so no worries building wrong. I've enjoyed the game. Not many RPGs out there that catch me anymore, games in general actually. However this one manages to keep me going. The main story is very long. I skipped all the dialogue which much of it is fully voiced and I put in 30hrs while skipping at least half the side quests as well. Dungeons are repeatable which some nights I just run a few before bed. It is easily worth the $24 I spent.
I like the developer Airship Syndicate, I like their previous games like Battle Chaser and Ruined King, so I hope gamers will give them a second chance with this game, so that they can continue making good games. Will definitely check out and buy this game.
I purchased this just to support the devs and how they managed to turn things around. It's a great story. Hopefully we see more examples of this.
Same!!!
It makes me think of Kingdom of Amalur, the visuals and the fact that it was thought as an mmo at the begining
Same for me, I hope they are going making a Kindom of Amalur 2 one day 😊
It's like an mmo light. It's waaaaaaaaay better now.
MAAAAN I MISS THAT GAME SOO MUCH
I still play that one every now and then.
I can see that!
These are the kinds of gaming stories we should be supporting. Ive been playing it for a week and havent been able to put it down.
yeah i pretty much bought the game 70% because i like what i saw and 30% to support the devs after somehow making this all work
I had it since beta, it was OKAY then. Good but not great. It is finally great. Just went on vacation with my wife and periodically during lulls I would think about this game. WTF? AS you did it again
Cant believe you didnt mention the beautiful art direction! When you first get to the town it is truly stunning.
It truly is
I wasnt entirely sold on the art direction entirely but after playing youre 100% correct.
Joe Mad and the art team knocks it out of the park every time. I really miss their turn-based RPGs though, hope they make one of those again in the future.
I found the WoW/futuristic look jarring at first. But it’s really grown on me and I’ve come to love the aesthetic. Love the music too!
Yup, I absolutely love the Joe Mad house style Airship Syndicate uses
Looks nifty. Kudos to the developer for persevering and transforming the game.
Tried the game last night, it's just great! Such a good game, didn't expect it to be this good after the betas I've played previously.

"MMO turned third-person action RPG" is what happened to Kingdoms of Amalur and publisher drama aside the game itself turned out pretty great.

I will try it.
Thanks for the video. It looks nice, but as an ARPG I'm worried that it will be buttonmashy. I'll just be spamming the same 3 hit combo over and over again. Onward to 400k. All glory to the algorithm.
*Sighs* Damn it Mortismal, take a vacation! I'm swamped with good games *single player problems*.
I did take a vacation of sorts, got back home today
Fucking YES! THIS GAME IS INCREDIBLE I WANT TO SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS
need it to come out on xbox
I definitely will man. Im really just posting this to drive up engagement, I heard commenting helps channels. Not that you need the help. Im overthinking this huh? Bye.
Reminds me of Torchlight 2.
It wasn't meant to be an MMO it was meant to be a free-to-play live service game, and was published (at the time) by Digital Extreme (the folks behind Warframe) and the launch was so disastrous that DE shut down their publishing arm and set Wayfinder loose.
It is yet another game that is delayed on Xbox for whatever reason. Still, looking forward to it AND when Satisfactory comes to xbox as well.
free comment.
thanks
Gronk!
I have beeing playing it for about 10 hours now. The progression is just numbers and gameplay gets very repetitive very quick.
Comment for Al Gore Rhythm.
Can you play single player?
Yes
All the spaces look sized for an MMO and look very empty with just the PC running through
I wish I liked this game, I really do, but I hate the combat.
I tried all 3 classes but didn't like the skills of any of them :(
Looks like kingdoms of amalur.
It does give those vibes
Kinda criminal how little attention this game is getting. Definitely has some Kingdoms of Amalur vibes. Digging the classic WoW/tech vibe and music. All the systems feel pretty satisfying. I wish more people were playing this as getting random groups can be tough. I’ll some times have one other player join. But that’s about it and it doesn’t happen as often as I’d like. But I’m having a great time with this!
really glad that this game is getting a second chance with a less insidious business model
okay, so, I played the game to completion before the 1.0 update. It is incredibly "meh". Not terrible, not good. Think C-tier
Getting tired of hearing about greedy publishers meddling with games. The gaming world would be better off without their interference.
It’s really fun but it runs horribly on the PS5. Stutters and freezes all the time. Sometimes it just hangs up and needs to be restarted.
I would wait till the performance is fixed.
I respect what airship syndicate have done with this game, but my god does the progression feel so bland...
Howso? I was thinking of playing it with my gf
Yeah wayfinder is absolutely sick
Only real problem is that the game is very finite right now. Very hard to continue playing after beating the final mythic hunts.
