    Having restored a number of these it appears there were some hard lessons learned.

    I’ve been working on my 1966 13 whaler for over a year now. Lots of detail work had to be done , but nothing like this. Thank god my foam wasn’t compromised!!! My boat is solid dry , waiting on a good day to spray awlcraft 2000 because I live in Florida too and we keep getting rain after rain and you can’t spray awlcraft with any moisture in the air even if it’s in a harbor freight carport , which I’m using lol Damn thing is like a sauna in there too so trying to work on it and not sweat my ass off is killing me. I’ll get it done soon

      WOW that's a long time but good luck with your project too! Yea the foam being soaked sucks but the kid that had it before me didn't take care of it at all creating so much more work for me... That stinks cause yea Florida weather has been brutal for weeks and has made it impossible to work on mine too. Good luck with your project and thanks for watching!

      @@oneofakindoutdoors I got mine inside a harbor freight carport.. keeps it super dry and the carport is solid as a Rock , but very hot to be inside constantly .. I put a cheap Led light inside so I can work at night , but the rain is limiting that .. everytime I pull my air compressor out to start spraying it rains lol .. gonna also upgrade to a better trailer , the one I have sucks and the tires are too small for long distance traveling. Got a quote for $1900 for an aluminum I beam trailer brand new ready to go .. I’ll save my old trailer for when I build a microskiff

      What's up? What kind of boat do you have and what kind of fixes do you have to do?

    With all of your time and your friends time, would it be more worth it to get side hustles for a while to get a newer one.

    • @oneofakindoutdoors
      @oneofakindoutdoors  3 роки тому

      The newer whalers are way to expensive and to get a boat right now that is not a project boat is going to be ridiculous because of the market right now so sadly no. Thanks for watching!

    You all are working hard!
    I wonder if the boat has been taking on water to its interior via a leaking drain pipe in the stern? I discovered mine was torn up to where I pulled it out in pieces. Not having brass flanging skills I replaced it with a PVC pipe lathered with 5200 to lock/dry it in which works fine. Just a thought.

      Yes we are this has definitely been a project! Thanks for watching. That is a possibility I will have to check it out. the reason I think there was that much water in there is because not a single screw was sealed correctly and there were screws below the water line. so its going to take a lot of patching but it'll make for some good content. Thanks again for the support

    Take it from someone who just went through the same EXACT process.. fix it for as little $ out of pocket, post for sale, sell it. Get a decent reliable outrage 18

      I will consider it the problem is that I cant get another boat in my price range right now if I were to sell it. But ill maybe give it a year and upgrade to a bigger boat. Thanks for watching

    Great videos so far. You have a lot of work to do but these boats are worth it! Can you tell us, what provides the structural shape of the sides? Is it fiberglass over a wood frame? I was always curious because I know the transom is generally fiberglass over wood. Since the floor was rotted, how do you know if the sides are OK, particularly where they meet the floor? Thanks!

    • @oneofakindoutdoors
      @oneofakindoutdoors  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you! Yea I do but its coming along slowly but surely. Yea so what surprised me too was that the entire thing is fiberglass, the sides the bottom and then the transom is fiberglass over wood which is surprisingly not rotted. The sides are fiberglass and inside the gunnels of the boat is the same marine foam but its actually dry LOL thankfully. And where the sides meet the floor that is fiberglass as well, so what am doing in the next video is going to be fiber glassing over everything to reinforce the hull and fix some of the cracks. Thanks for watching!

      The structural integrity of these boats comes from the foam when the put the two halves together, I work with an old guy that used to work at Boston Whaler when they were in Rockland, MA up until the 80s. He even got to build his own boat there lol. but when you redo the floor you would want to do it over with fiberglass over wood or at least have stringers run in the foam. You can look up on the old engineering drawings of the whalers and you will find out where they placed wood inside the boats, had to do this for my 17ft to figure out where to mount my cleats. this wasn't for structural purposes only for mounting stuff like rails, center consoles, cleats, etc... the foam is what bonded the boat together as one piece. Even with your whaler being soaked they still float, not ideal obviously but who cares it floats lol

      @oneofakindoutdoors  3 роки тому

      That's dope! Crazy to think how some foam can really help the boat like that. Do you have a site where I can check out the old blue prints for the whalers I haven't been able to find them? Yea that's what makes me feel good about having a whaler is that they are unsinkable LOL

      More specifically this one!
      continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/drawings.html
      The 13ft whalers didn't have much wood inside them but since u ripped your floor up you might as well do fiberglass over plywood, it'll be alot easier mounting stuff specially the center console since 13ft only had side consoles. Center console is way cooler anyways lol
      project is coming along nicely! Keep it going!

    it was Sooooooo painful watching your foot removal. Obviously you never watched any tutorial videos on which tools to use to make it easier. Good effort anyway.

      Thank you! It was quite the process getting all of that stuff out, took like a total of 10 hours. There’s definitely better ways tho
