What were your numbers? I’d imagine that a Talon SS 14p or a Mercury Vengeance 14p or 15p would be a good prop for you with as heavy as that boat is. She looked like she struggled a tad to get out of the water, so a smaller pitched prop is going to be the ticket. It got hot thats how epoxy cures. Not suppose to do more than 3-4 layers at a time because it will get too hot and lockup.

Would have used a sharp flat head and regular shovel for foam

Just bought one of these myself and now restoring. Like your 13ft my 11 ft has some water in the foam. I think it came in from the 1in drain tube seal failing on the main deck. in the process of ripping out the wet foam not fun lol.

Enjoyed this with my son. We’re about to buy a whaler.

Finally someone who put the bolts in the best way. At least now of you want to go up or down with your motor you wont have to pull the bolts out to do it.

I am looking at purchasing a 13ft whaler. I am wondering if being 6'3" the boat would be too small for me or not?

Can’t use the high speed pickup inside the fishbox as it will interfere with the water the Outboard motor needs to keep it cool. First thing to do is to inspect the foamed in gas tank. Also All the hoses In fuel system need replacing along with the fuel tank ( due to corrosion on the aluminum tank.) you should remove the console and set it on front deck until fuel system is replaced. Don’t know where your at but check Marine connections in Ft Pierce for fuel tanks,hoses anything else you need. I just shop there for 25 years. Also you need a brass garbor drain installed if not done already. Also the drain in the fishbox needs to be redone. Take old out, clean area between the deck and hull. Wipe area as clean as possible. Now fill the area between them pushing out enough that will be solid making it ready to patch bottom or instal new flush threaded drain sleeve. Or just patch the outside and eliminate the drain. But remember water in the boat will go in there. Check your transom for any rot before buying motor. If ANY rot is present you need a new transom. Some people will cut it out in front of the box’s,others cut from the top of the box’s, AND. DO A POURED TRANSOM. It’s work but a lot less glass work. I did it on my1976 and was the easiest transom replacement I’ve done . Don’t let that fool you it will be work but a lot easier before rigged. I used an old electric chainsaw to cut down as far as I could. There staples in there but the saw cut right through them. A friend ha a much longer saw and he made shore work with it. I also used a 1 1/2 Forstner bit and welded it on a rod to get the last bit deep in the corners. Not seeing your transom I don’t know if it’s a 25” or cut down to 20”. Either way now is the time to decide. When I raised my transom all i did was raise the mold to 25 1/4 ( glass over and finish ) and would do a 30” transom but need to add knees to the stringers. I also has 2 1/2-16 S/S threaded Rods cut to length and out from motor bolt pattern just for piece of mind and NO FLEX on mine.

Looking at the boat from astern, it sure looks like the engine is mounted too low. Also, it appears you have a high thrust propeller, which is made for power, not speed.

Did you put anything between the side of the boat and the wood?

I know your pain. My floor in my 81 Glastron was mush. The previous owner put 1 inch osb over top of the original rotting floor and stringers and called it good. I removed over 200lbs of soaking wet rotten wood and foam. Its been fun figuring it all out but I am ready to be done. I'm finally ready to start rebuilding.

Just a tip on the buffing, rub the compound around first with the pad. And watch your cords. The buffer will suck them up quick

I use those cooling towels, they sell to wrap around your neck, as a sweat band when I paint in the summer
