Can we just appreciate how Yugi, Kaiba and Joey draw the two cards in different ways? Yugi pick both right away, Joey draws one twice, while Kaiba gently caresses his deck from bottom to top like I would like him to do to me
So I remember hearing an explanation on why old spell cards had to specify they going to the GY. Basically, a good amount of spells(when the game was first being made and stuff) were meant to stick around on the field for a while(think continuous spell or swords of revealing light) before going to the GY. Spells that didn't needed to specify it went away right away. Of course it became a game rule later on that they went away after activation unless the card specified it stayed, but we could have lived in a world where most spells were like swords of revealing light and stuck around for a few turns before being sent from the field.
They removed the last part (Destroy Pot of Greed...) because some people would swallow the card since they thought tearing it into pieces wasn't enough.
I propose that anytime you guys explain the Pot of Greed effect, you throw in a token into the Pot of Greed Jar. When it's full, you guys should have a duel. Whoever loses, becomes the Goblin of Greed
The reason old printings of spell cards have the wording destroy is because back in the ancient days of yugioh spell didn't go the gy normally and would stay on the field like a field spell you can see this with swords of revealing light which is why it works the way it does now
This is also the same reason why Swords of Revealing Light is a normal spell that sticks on the field for 3 turns, rather than a continuous spell that would send itself later. Edit: I have a problem of not reading a comment to its entirety, and am just realizing that the original commenter already mentioned Swords. 😵💫
Pot of Greed was explained each time so new viewers to the show were not lost with what was going on. Amazing that it was such a good card that it appeared over 90 times in the animes rivaling and beating popular monsters like Dark Magician Girl and Red Eyes Black Dragon
Actually when you summon Pot Of Greed, it allows you to draw 3 cards from your deck. It also pairs very well with Magic Force, which allows you to use Pot Of Greed again.
I activate Pot of Greed I go +1 on card advantage... Except there's more I just thinned my deck by 2 cards and put a spell in my graveyard allowing me to increase my lines to lethal
ok... strangely enoough, its original text actually makes Pot of Greed way more broken then cause there are now cards as response to one of your cards getting destroyed, so with that wording, it could then also become a cost of those cards
Would that destruction be in the effect resolution before the resolution example imperm is in the row and u can activate it but since its destroyed it now is negated
The thing is I love Card draw spells, and Pot of Greed is that hilarious thing you do to make your opponents go "Ugghhh!!" Not to mention Magic The Gathering with it's Ancestral Recall or newly released Quick Study which "Draws 2 cards from your library"
When you need to hit the word count on your essay: “I play my Pot of Greed magic card, this allows me to draw two card from my deck and add them to my hand”
If PoG had that effect still, it could technically have niche interactions with cards that have "when a card on your feild is destroyed" trigger effects.
I think that's a carryover from when it was going to be a different version of MTG. But with limited board space it was probably determined that more cards will be instance based as to try and promote simplicity and fast gameplay.
In the anime the cards don't seem to have text. My head cannon was that you had to figure out what cards did through trail and error. So duelist were considered good because they played a lot, and memorized what cards did. And if a card did something they didn't expect could still make it work. It's why you would need to go to a school for it.
Would be a great headcanon if it was the same in both Japanese and English. The reason the cards look the way they do in the English dub is because showing the real cards on the show in the US would be treated as illegal advertising to children. In the Japanese version, they use real scans of the cards that look identical to the real game versions.
