phillip grimshaw not only was a superb player - right up there with the best of the American players in my humble opinion - he also had superb taste in Gibson guitars!
I've been transcribing Louis' solos now for a while. They really are fantastic. Intricate and always so tasteful. Went to hear him in Sligo's Hawks Well Theatre as a kid and it has stayed with me since. Louis solo on Rose Room with Benny Goodman is right up there I think.
I was at the Wrexham jazz guitar festival and I believe Mundel Lowe presented Louis with this guitar. I might be wrong. Perhaps someone could confirm or otherwise.
@@dv340 Ah, ok. I remember being at the festival and they both were there. I remember Louis saying that the guitar was from Mundel. It was a beautiful 175 with a single P90 and sunburst I think. I really can’t remember the year as I attended many years in a row and I am rubbish at remembering dates anyway. I think that Mundel and Louis would have been there together only once or twice at most. Perhaps Mundel sent it over to Louis previously. Two truly fine guitarists of the old school.
@@dv340 Sounds about right. Another thing I remember was a conversation between Louis and Jack Wilkins. Jack said that he was buying Louis’s records (in the USA) to study the solos. Louis replied that he was buying Jacks records in Ireland and doing the same! A nice moment. Don’t ask me what year that was!
He is one of the greatest Europeans be-bop players ever.
And also, one of the most underestimated jazz guitarists ever.
When Louis was on his last days ,his son asked dad would you like to be cremated or buried ? Louis reply was ,surprise me .A master musician .

What year was that? Louis once told me that Mundell sent him a 175 for his birthday by courier.
