I’m 53 and never was introduced to these moves as a kid, I’m learning now. I only practiced about 40 minutes and the peddling backwards came natural but requires practice to be consistent. My goal is to learn a few bmx tricks in 2023 and diet down under 200lbs , all for riding my bikes! I used a wall for stopping then tried to reverse out of it, thus the fake! Thanks for the explanation 👍

I did practice going both ways, coming out to my right and to my left. I did not pay attention to what my feet were doing when practicing coming out in both directions

Out of all the good fakie how-to's out there, this is the only one that teach the cab or turnaround part more detailed. And that's the part I'm having difficulties the most lol. Plus I'm also left foot-forward so this is just perfect. Thanks for this man!

In my opinion and the way I learned to fake was using a quarter pipi. Roll up and back down effortlessly, and learn to roll out each time. I learned at a skatepark, I tried it 100 times over and over, and pretty much had it in a day. And then learn to 180 on flat ground, fakie and roll out and you got it!!

when i learned fakies i found it easier to not lift the back wheel and to roll up really slow and push off of the curb harder. it helps you roll backwards faster and longer

I struggled to pull off a fakie with my cassette, but yesterday I tried a freecoaster for the first time (Cinema ZX) and tried to fakie on a quarter, not thinking id make it, and to my surprise i held a fakie for about 3 seconds. I was super pumped and then found this video.

I learned by riding up a small embankment and then rolling backwards down it. We had front brakes back then, and it was 1983. But I see plenty of small embankments in parking lots and such that have a parking block or curb at the top. I think that would make it easier to learn.

When coming out of the " fakie" I notice the resistance on my crank do to the " cassette" freewheel that I'm using. I have a criticism for this method (learned fakie and did these methods. Ask me questions if any of you need help.)
So for the method of rolling up to a curb, the issue that I found is when you shift your weight to the front of the bike and off the frame, youre susceptible to letting your frame rock from one side to the other so my frame moved by itself to the left when i put all my weight to the front when coming up on the wall.
My recommendation is to do the embankment technique or take this to the skatepark to a steep ramp and practice riding up and then rolling down to go backwards.

In this sport, we call that an Indian Giver. You should always roll out in the same direction you first spun. To correct this, just lean in the direction you want to roll out in when you’re coming out of the fakie

lol my one friend and a few random people whove seen me ride when i was at my best were always like voodoo magic to explain my fakies.
but the real voodoo magic is nose manuals. for fakies just look down at your front hub. and run 28 to 9 minimum. bit of practice. lean a little back and youre set. 28 to 9 slows the cranks down for the back pedals. once you get balance figured out a tad the back pedal goes as this just go slightly faster backwards then the hub wants you to and use various amounts of pressure to slow down. steer opposite like youre drifting but not that hard.
easiest but not the least scary way to learn it is with brakes on a bank. abubaca. roll up wheelie lock the brakes hop back.
