A few people I know hate Death Grips because they seem to really embrace publicity stunts that piss off their biggest fans, but as one who enjoys their music, I wouldn't have minded if they cancelled the tour if it meant two things: 1) they say they are looking to fulfill their original promise of releasing two albums in the same year and 2) the album is good enough to justify the sacrifice. Luckily, to me, the album is pretty damn good. "Come Up and Get Me", "No Love", "Artificial Death in the West" and "Stockton" are personal instant faves.

Basically any death grips related video is going to either consist of missing information or a plethora straight up factual inaccuracy *coughsongpsychcough* (or both), it’s sadly just par for the course at this point since their history isn’t the most well documented out there.
Learned about death grips in 2014 in 8th grade, my English teacher played npr tiny desk concert in the morning and he was great drummer in a friends band. He taught me a lot about punk rock history and gave a lot of material and reading, I asked him one day about death grips and he told me zack hill and his insane work ethic, and how he’s from sac which is where I’m from. He also told me about zacks old band hella which is NorCal classic.
I was just watching magic the gathering videos so funny seeing you talk about it here. Also I’ve listened to every death grips album multiple times except NLDW. I’m saving it for a day where death grips is no more and I need new music from them. Great video
Somebody needs to make a video about the strong connection between Death Grips and Western Esotericism/Thelema/Magick because it informs everything they have ever done as a band and I have never seen anyone talk about it.
I say this because it's one thing to acknowledge Ride's mysticism but we don't know anything about him really so it'd be 10 minutes of assumptions. He strikes me as the type to stare blankly at you if you mentioned Crowley.
Still think the most of their popularity and recognition is yet to come. Won’t be until they completely disband forever that people really appreciate the levels they were on.

In terms of DG stand alone projects, NLDW is my favorite (NOTM is my actual favorite but yk it's a half of the album), the insane deliveries from Ride sound like he's about to die the entire time and *will* kill you if you approach him because he's afraid of you alongside some of their most threatening instrumentals make it a hell of a record, and the backstory behind the album makes you think that, given the music, of COURSE this was the type of rollout it underwent. The fact that Zach went and said that this was the closest they had, at the time, gotten to their initial vision of Death Grips when they started the project is also chilling, as shown here is arguably the most insane from-the-pits-of-hell-or-Sacto recordings these guys ever threw on tape. And even after several listens, this album STILL makes me feel like I'm in danger, or like I shouldn't be hearing this alone. Great, great album, holy hell. Edit: especially when you take into consideration these guys essentially went into hiding after releasing this and its tour, not showing up to their own concerts, releasing Birds and then Government Plates, with music viddys for EVERY track as a complete and total surprise, and promising a double album but only granting the first half for so long, it's just wild overall where they ended up going after this
What’s funny is that the music industry did this previously with other bands for example kenna’s new sacred cow the actual album was released in 1997 and was delayed until 2003.

@@Middle8 Andy is THE production guy. The thing that'll always keep Death Grips mysterious is that we're never gonna see the release of outtakes or B Sides or hear any behind the scenes stories. This is as close as we get to context for any one DG project. It is funny that what many consider either their best album or at least their most accessible, was done under the watch for a few key individuals as major record label that heard these guys and gave them a chance, but once the label wanted to put them in their place, that's where they really took their artistry into their own hands.
