In celebration of the album’s 10th anniversary, I thought I’d explore Lonerism’s making, its significance in Tame Impala’s discography and how its themes of isolation made it the soundtrack for loners everywhere.

LONERISM: 10 Years Later
The Making of LONERISM
How TAME IMPALA Made LONERISM
Where would you rank LONERISM in Tame Impala’s discography?
its his best
#1
#3 for me, I need to get more into it. Currents still my favourite.
For me it's either my favorite or second favorite after Currents
Definitely his best
It’s crazy how Tame Impala didn’t make one bad album since the beginning
Slow rush is not very good
I mean it’s your opinion, but other than instant destiny, what’s not to like?
@@loganlarsen6298 I think it's a great album, just the bottom teir compared to the rest of his albums.
And I feel many Tame listeners would agree :)
@@muntmunt3155 that’s fair and it’s true the the majority of people have the slow rush as least favorite, but saying its not very good to “a great album” in 2 comments is a little weird
@@loganlarsen6298 Ah, the english language. Tis a fickle beast :P
My favorite Tame Impala album, and arguably his best. Absolute masterpiece.
Still my favourite too
Not arguable, Lonerism is his best nqa.
Same here. Fortunate enough to have gone to Desert Daze to hear him and the crew play the whole thing live. That set solidified it as my favorite album.
I like it a lot it's my second favorite of Tame Impala
Nah inner speaker and Liberian were my favorites
I’m 25 and started listening to tame when I was 18. Lonerism helped me so much with my anxiety during college. All the lyrics were so relatable and it felt empowering.
I started listening at 15, in 2012. I can relate. As I got older gradually, I found a lot of wisdom and new ideas in each new album. It really helped me process what was going on in my life
Damn I'm 19 and in college. I'm exactly in your situation. Lonerism & Innerspeaker soundtracking my life right now
@@lamontkhoza2856 man I remember those days, 5 years ago for me. Cherish it. InnerSpeaker and Lonerism totally opened up my world back then
same
Same I would have dropped out if I didn't have it
I didn't like Apocalypse Dreams till I experienced it live this year. It’s fantastic, instantly became one of my favorites
I kinda had the opposite experience lol
It's my favourite Tame song, but live it felt way too "yay party!" which seemed like a strange choice.
🌊🌊🌊
@@gotsmurb72 yes!!!
@@YearsOfLeadPoisoning your expectations for this song were probably higher than mine 😕
Yeah it was amazing live
Keep on Lying is such a masterpiece. My absolute favorite out of the album. That loop, man...
Hearing this whole album live at Desert Daze was an experience.
jealousy is a strong understatement
such an unreal time. so blessed to have gone
The visuals were especially excellent, especially on Why Won’t They Talk to Me?
Hearing Keep on Lying and Nothing That Has Happened So Far was a treat for sure!
Wish we could’ve had Beverly Laurel and Led Zeppelin but an excellent set nonetheless!
@@roach9397 it was so awesome realizing how much time and effort kevin and the band put into that singular concert, and looking back on that crowd of thousands who were all having the time of their lives...
All the effects and visuals were insane, i cant get that first moment when the lasers came on or the confetti drop out of my head lol. Best concert ive ever seen by a loooong shot. Glad us lucky few got to see that show!
It was not a concert, but a religious experience. Truly incredible
Lonerism is my favourite Tame Album of all, not to mention how much of a personal impact it has made. Phenomenal sounds, zero skips, and just ages like fine wine! You did absolute justice to the album curating this video, thank you so much!
I found tame impala when I was 13 and im nearly 23. It’s been almost 10 years since I heard mind mischief for the first time and I have loved him ever since. I finally saw him live 6 days ago and it was such a full circle moment for me seeing my favourite artist of all time. He is truly a musical genius. ❤
23 too, and where the hell'd you find such good music so early?
I didn't start developing a proper taste for this stuff since after high school 😅
@@JustAJauneArc My dad was in a rock & blues band when I was little, so I got to know and love all the old classics and eventually stumbled upon TI when I ventured into the different sub genres of rock/indie/alt type stuff! It definitely hits different as an adult but gives me nostalgic from my teenage years lol
@@jessicarose4506 That's cool as hell! My parents had significantly less interesting music taste, and I just grew up listening to whatever came on the radio.
Your dad sounds rad.
Here's praying that the one concert in California isn't the only celebration this album gets. Truly one of the best albums of all time. Seriously.
Innerspeaker is one of those albums you can listen to and just reset your brain. Similar to In Rainbows by Radiohead. It just covers so many emotions and themes, it’s really easy to go through all areas of your mind and self reflect.
No words about endors toi, I listen to it several times each day / week since 10
Years now 🎉
I love the track but there wasn't much to say about it when it came to the album's theme
Such a unique album in my eyes! Love your videos man! Keep it up and we’ll be here to support every one!
🙏 thank you!
Lonerism is one of my favourite albums ever. It's really interesting how each of Kevin's albums sets and help throughout different phases of life. Like in a constant loop.
Right? Innerspeaker/Lonerism are about, well, what the album names say they are. (Introspection, being a loner, isolation). Currents is a breakup album, and the slow rush is a love album. Always nice to be able to listen to tame in any mood
The prime example of an album you truly get lost in. A cohesive project from start to finish with each song melting into the next. Zero skips. A work of art.
You are incredible at making these videos! My favorite album of all time
Thanks a lot! And mine too 🤙
One of my favourite albums of all time. Played a huge part in shaping my formative teenage years
As someone who started listening to Currents first. Being able to go back and listen was amazing and every single album is pro-founding beautiful
All of 2020 I listened to his music and it hit even harder because that’s when covid shut everything down.
I love Kevin's entire discography, but Innerspeaker and Lonerism are in my heart
His absolute best album, and one of my favorite albums in general. Nearly everything about it is perfect, and hearing how much of it was based on Kevin’s own personal loneliness just makes it even more beautiful to listen to
I had no idea that he was influenced by Beach House on "Feels Like We Only Go Backwards." I love that I always learn something new from your videos!
when i tell you i’ve been waiting for this video for YEARS, i mean it. phenomenal work.
editing is top tier as always, good job middle 8!
subjective. each album is so insanely perfect in its own way and ill never be able to rank them personally. each is linked to its own feelings, experiences, etc
Such a fitting time for this video. Just saw him live other day in one of his first gigs back in Australia in years. By far the best live performances I’ve seen thus far
I was so hyped when I saw the thumbnail for this!!! So glad you created this vid been waiting for it
What a great video, glad you highlighted Music To Walk Home By so much too. The greatest song of all time needs more attention
Thank you for this, this was awesome. Lonerism made me feel I wasn't the only one going through it. When I saw them live a year ago, it was awesome and was a sort of closure. Music is amazing.
Such a flawless and amazing album. No skips.
I got to see the 10 year anv show live and it was one of the greatest shows. This album is a timeless masterpiece
The two albums that best represented me (especially in my early-mid 20’s) were both released in October of 2012 -
Good Kid, M.A.A.D City
Lonerism
…and 3 years later, both Kendrick and Kevin released another pair of masterpieces. I hope they collaborate.
reddit final boss
seeing the unedited cover blew my mind!! so cool to learn that the album was called 'loner pop' too. my favourite album of all time, well done on this video :)
The lyrics in this album are so special. I can't believe he wrote these lyrics and mixed with the superb instrumentals that only Kevin himself knows how to make. Absolute masterpiece.
I've always found it awesome and hilarious that the sample in Nothing That Has Happened was literally straight audio from The Room that Kevin took and tuned up
Great vid. Your videos are the reason I started loving music essays / documentaries
Happy I could spark something in you, it means a lot, thanks!
Seeing him perform the whole album at Desert Daze last year was so amazing. I don’t think I will ever witness a better show I was just so happy and think about it every time I hear a song from the album
Was lucky enough to see them live last night. It was an incredible experience.
I wish Kevin made an album or ep just of those longer songs. Keep on Lying on Lonerism Let it Happen on Currents and One More Hour from The Slow Rush are my favorite songs so just to have those instrument focused longer songs would be a dream.
Keep on Lying in one of the underappreciated gems on the record.
MY FAVORITE ALBUM EVER!!! your videos are absolutely amazing
Cool video, I loved it! Lonerism will forever be my favourite album... it has left a big impact in my life and I don't think I can ever feel emotionally connected to an artist like this ever again.
great editing as usual...keep up the great work man
You’ve earned a subscriber in me, man. Your channel has great content and you are wonderful to listen to. Keep up the great work!
Amazing visuals on this video!! The text and moving visuals is great.
perfect timing, was at the sydney concert last night :))
love finding new stuff from this channel
Can't thank you enough for putting into words how me and a lot of us felt while listening to the album for the very first time. Shamefully it wasn't until the covid pandemic that I was able to dive into Kevin's works and Lonerism felt like pat in the back during the peak of covid feeling anxious and lonely. Thank you for your work.
Another fantastic video, thank you so much! Extremely informative and very well edited. You do an excellent job of honoring the work of talented artists by both promoting them and chronicling the creation of their finest works. I really appreciate all of the effort that you put into these videos and will keep watching!
Thanks for the kind words!
Hey man, just wanted to say your videos are absolutely top drawer. The research that goes into them, the video production techniques, and of course your own insights just make them an absolute treat to watch. Greatest music critique channel on UA-cam by far!! 🔥
Currents is the one I enjoy the most, it was on repeat while I was dealing with heartbreak, plus sonically is just amazing I adore the instrumentalization
This album was life changing for me at the time. Saw them at the Ritz in Manchester just after it came out. Hell of a show it was!
seeing this album live was everything!!!
This album is everything to me. Ages like wine. Perfect blend of an old school sound with a magnificently executed modern touch with a timeless theme.
Man I have never clicked this fast on a video XD
And also so many new things i found out about the album and that Walk in the park is the inspiration behind my favourite song
An incredibly well made video. You just gained a new subscriber!
so happy for this video had the chance to see them Live !!!! I love lonerism!!! honorable mentions to feels like we only go backwards my first tame impala listened / discovery song & keep on lying
great video man. just listened the album a couple weeks ago after finding elephant. i liked the vibes but didn't really understand the album. this really explained the album for me.
Excellent video. Lonerism is one of the great albums of our time in my opinion and this breakdown really did it justice. Well done.
I just found out about tame impala and now this video came out... perfect timing!
amazing work, waiting for the video about AM's new album
If anyone is considering trying LSD out, listen to this all the way through.
THIS IS WHAT IVE BEEN WHATING FORR WOOOOOO I LOVE YOUUUUU FRANK
Was so blessed to see it played live at Desert Daze. Truly an unforgettable experience!
Wow 🤩 any tame Impala video and I’m sold
Ngl I thought the Currents video was a tad bit surface level and mostly touched on the main song themes, but this video really goes into it. Loved the extra information about this album's inspiration and creation. Quite nice.
Gracias middle 8 por levantar la jornada
phenomenal video as usual
I love these videos, keep it up! you should do a video about the Flaming Lips.
This is the best Tame Impala album. Neopsych masterpiece!
my personal favorite album of all time, personally i feel like theres alot of albums that "sound better" but lonerism is just so personal to me.
I am a huge Tame Impala fan and one of my favorite songs by Beach House is "Walk In The Park" and I never knew it inspired him to make It "Feels Like We Always Go Backwards"... Mind blown. :O
Me too!
As someone that got into Tame Impala way too late in 2020, the Slow Rush and Currents were all I had listened to at first, until I saw him live for the first time at the Hollywood Bowl. This started my obsession and deep dive. At this point I’ve now seen him 4 times in the past year, and got to see him perform Lonerism at Desert Daze. It’s hands down my favorite of his works as a whole, though Alter Ego is my favorite song overall.
it's a good day when middle 8 posts
Fantastic video and breakdown!
The album that drew me into them, and still my favorite
Good timing for this video, I'm seeing Tame Impala in Melbourne tomorrow night!
A masterpiece, both in narrative and in music 🤟🤟
this will always have such an amazingly special place in my lobe
Working in a music retailer circa late 2012, and hearing 'mind mischief' for the first time. world changing
Saw these guys a week ago bloody brilliant
Absolutely love Tame Impala, Great work on this video!
Thank you!
This guy just doesn't miss!
I first heard about Tame Impala in 2017 when I read an article on Facebook about ''albums that get you closer to experience drug effects'' and THIS album was on it. I was very curious about it so I gave it a listen and I fell in love immediately, I used to listen to Lonerism everyday while I walked, while I was in the car, everywhere. Now 5 years later I still love the album, but as Middle 8 says, when I hear about it, it just reminds me about a bittersweet time long passed.
such a massively relatable album
Whenever I am in Paris and walk past Gardin du Luxembourg, I walk past the exact spot of the cover photo and listen to the album.
I did this one year and sat in the park drinking wine and listening to Lonerism
Middle 8 is my go to channel when i want new music to listen to for hours
My english was not pretty great at the time when i discover Lonerism back during high school day. But every song especially Keep On Lying really make me intimidated, it's have the same vibe when you don't have any friends to talk to during a party. I'm a introvert guy back in the day not because i'm shy, because there's no one to talk to, no one understands me and i'm not understand them. This album really capture that vibe even though i'm not grasping or properly understand the lyrics at that time. What a masterpiece
I love your stuff can you make a video on Phoenix I just watched them on tour and they slap
Love this video and all your others! Was wondering if you would consider putting out a video on In The Aeroplane over the sea by Neutral milk hotel.
Thanks for sharing, regards mate...!
To this day, the production alone goes unmatched. For a good while many artists attempted the psychedelic rock sound Kevin brought back but imo nobody came close.
I was in college when I discovered Tame Impala when Innerspeaker came out. I’ve been a fan ever since. The live shows are super amazing!
I would like to see a video on the history of Chiodos. They're a fantastic band but with such a rocky history that led to a inevitable breakup
My number 1 album of all time, so this video could not be any more fun for me.
brilliant video
I wish my father was still here with us to hear Impala's genius of a music.
My favorite record ever , flawless ! It s so important in my Life
