@Coy Leigh I used to like Cherry Bomb, but you're right, it is ridiculous. 15 year old child dressed like an adult film "star" singing about flaunting parental authority and how she'll make you sore. I smell a Fowl rat.
She's so honest. Takes responsibility for her drug taking. Good on her. Makes a difference from all the famous people blaming everyone else for it. Glad that she came out on a note, bless her. I love her. Loved her in the runaways. Love her now.
Anyone who is a fan of Cherie or the Runaways should read Neon Angel. There's a part in the book where Cherie is literally dying on her feet from cocaine. It's mentioned in this video but she quite literally was dying. She did "narrowly escape" death. By mere weeks. Very good but also very intense book. I'm glad she managed to get away from that. Strong woman.
Yes, I read it, and it is scary. Poor Cherie really had some heavy shit to deal with. Being raped by a lunatic, for starters. Glad she got into recovery. A great woman, with beauty and spirit and rock and roll grit.
It would not have been the same though teenage girls sex and drugs it's a rock n roll image. People have to learn to do it straight later for their health but it's ingrained by then it's easy to do.
Holy fuck, talk show hosts from back in the day were so horribly insensitive. "Former Teen Rockstar Turned Coke Queen" .. and this is what they call her _after_ she's quit. Television broadcasters were on a massive drug tirade whenever Cherie gave an interview.
it’s crazy. the Runaways weren’t together that long. already began dissolving just in over 2 yrs. so it really says something bout the industry that she went from zero to 100 so quickly. in just 2yrs a quaalude and coke addict, pregnant by a manager, i mean wow. it’s also odd-she looks younger here than she did performing cherry bomb live on stage back in the day.
I just watched the movie The Runaways (Dakota and Kristen are awesome!) and I find it amazing that this old footage is on youtube. Wow, I remember Sally Jessie from when I was a kid. Amazing that after all these years something has survived. Thanks for posting.
One thing I find interesting about The Runaways. All of the girls in the band were very intelligent and really very nice sweet kids. Most have lead very interesting lives and have all accomplished a lot. A friend of mine knows one of them and she’s really kind and nice and cool.
Wow, I remember being a little girl who listened to the Runaways, and watched the movie Foxes, and realized for the first time that Cherrie Currie rocked my life in more ways than one! She was so sexy, still is, but in Foxes she was a blonde bombshell to me. Thanks for the memories.
I saw most of that film at didn't know it was Her at first , She was skinny and frail , She looked very well in these films healthy. If You are from the 60's-70's drugs was accepted and cool , it just wasn't in Hollywood , it was everywhere
I was a pre-teen at the time, and remember all the older people doing drugs. I grew up watching people snort cocaine and separate seeds from the pot so they could roll a joint... so ya, I remember the drugs! Not that any of that has really changed now, but people are heavier due to the processing of food, I suppose. I just remember wanting to be apart of a Cherrie Currie and Joan Jett sandwhich...right in the middle!
This was probably from the late 80's /early 90's - regardless, I've always thought Cherie Currie got much better looking as she got older and into her 30's, 40's and 50's ......
A true fucking Rock Star, who knows what hard times really is. Unlike nowadays, with these fake ass, wanna be Rock Stars who create this bogus: "Bad girl" image because they wanna be like Rockers from the seventies.
Strawberry3008 it has Kim written all over it. He raped Jacky one of the base players they had. And convinced she wanted it. The girl was half awake and couldn't move. They never rebelled against him during the band's running as they were afraid of him. Hell they still are
Cherie Currie is sooooooooooo cute here... CUTTEST GIRL IN THE WORLD! Like a cat from Japan... That's the Real Prettiest Beautiful Women Who Walked in Earth.

@musclecars60 her dad was an alcoholic and her mom was in indonesia. I just finished her autobiography :P She really didnt have anyone to look out for her
I hate how they are so negative, I mean yeah it was awful with the drugs but hell, discuss the overall problems instead of WHAT SHE DID WRONG.

@Des Harris You are absolutely correct. My ex worked for a pharmaceutical company that was partners in developing Suboxone, a heroin replacement therapy. I saw lab rats opt for drugs over food until they died, addiction takes over the brain for sure. And fast!!
@Des Harris Indeed. I saw an interview with Kathy Valentine from the Go Go's, the first time she did heroin she said: "I knew right then that this was the way I wanted to feel for the rest of my life". It was 7 years later before she kicked it. The same thing exact story for Danny Hutton from Three Dog Night, only it was 15 years for him. No happy endings down that road.
Both Joan and Cherie are today both gorgeous women in their 50's. They both sound great too now. I'm glad they didn't go down the wrong road like Sandy West.
It is good to see that she is doing so well now. Although these are very dated interviews, obviously. Is there any newer information on her these days? @agentthelios1 it is true that those of you who haven't ever done the stuff she or others did, I agree wholeheartedly with @ncwdane, that God rejoices not only in those who are walking right, but rejoices when one of those were lost and are now found.
@agenthelios1 Whenever a family unit has the level of dysfunction that Cherie's family had it is very easy to succumb to the feeling canceling effects that drugs and alcohol provide. Addiction can be more profound. I am referring to people that are more prone to being sensitive. People that genuinely love their family and cannot bear to see such unhappiness and suffering of those that they care about. I hate it when people that are not sensitive judge others for being so.
She's very intelligent and sharp in these clips; glad to see the drugs didn't do any serious damage. Though I wasn't aware the Runaways performed in San Diego just a few weeks after she joined the group. That story sounds made up from the beginning, and it has only grown every time she tells it.
@rrhone This was the early to mid '80's as they mention Madonna in here and the movie Foxes which Cherie Currie did in 1980 which means whe was at least 21 years old.
No blame game here take responsibility for what's going on always. This is what it means to take your life back.its not about drugs, friends, parents, school etc. It's about you only you. Be your own boss. Don't let anything or anyone run you.
@iCatey If you read Cherie Currie's book, she explains how after the Runaways she really didn't talk to any of the girls for quite some time and downspiraled into a very, very hard addiction to cocaine and crack cocaine. She was also raped multiple times and tortured during one of those occurrences.
She seems like a cool mom to have. wow how she still has a perfect nose even though she did all that cocaine for so many years, i'm so surprised it didnt eat her up. Even all the smoking didn't do any harm to her, shes still healthy and looks great for her age. Sandy didn't come out on all the videos smoking like Cherie did, and she still died of cancer.
She mentioned that her mom worked at Coldwater Canyon Hospital. I grew up in North Hollywood and went to Coldwater Canyon Elementary School so does anyone know where this hospital is?
@wheelinthesky300 I don't know if she got breast implants, but what you have to remember is in the early photos of her - in in the corset and fishnets she was only 15-16 years old and just starting to actually develop breast, but as I say, she could have had implants, I don't know.
@L7JETT She called her Cherry after she said it was found by Joan Jett. I think that it just brought back memories when she heard the interviewer say that. She actually smirked when she was called Cherry haha
2:05 What??? Madonna ain't got shit to do with Joan Jett! Joan Jett is pure 100% rock and roll gold. Madonna is an unquestionable pop queen. Two different worlds.
For heavens sake sex drugs and rock n roll was the image for lots of bands not just in the 70s either and not just the bands but their fans too. I'm glad I never hot hooked on anything hard as cocaine but I doubt she was the only one who did that was the lifestyle then and there.
she had an awesome voice for a 15 year old. I love the ch ch ch sound on cherry bomb.

She has such a sweet look here. She reminds me of a young Meg Ryan.

"a person in authority" aka kim fowley
peterpanfan010 Right.
It was common knowledge he did that and called all of them dogfuckers
