I love the ideas in here. Very much a Bruce Lee approach to comic book art 'absorb what is useful, discard what isn't, add what is uniquely your own.' It's also very reassuring to see that someone of David Finch's level still looks to other artists for inspiration.

When i was starting drawing these type of videos used to make me pessimistic and feel as if i didn't made any progress, i felt like a loser for not doing my best, now that i understood that this is what every artist in history as been through, this type of videos give me motivation, make me think "it is possible and i can go even beyond"
Even tho i'm still a beginner i really appreciate with all my heart these kind of videos, most people just show photos or a speedup video of the drawing, i can't explain why but saying the process on relative real time is what makes me feel inspired, maybe because i can feel that wonderful artists as you are as human as i am, maybe i'm being kinda overdramatic but that's how works for me

LOL! Not laughing at you. Laughing at the misconception the internet gave you about drawing and references. People that do photorealistic art. What are they doing? One to one copies while looking at a reference. Everyone uses reference all the time. Anyone who says they aren't or that they don't is a lair. Some use it less for SOME of the things they draw but still go back to it and will ALWAYS use it for things they aren't as familiar with. Awesome you are drawing! Hope you stay motivated!

Oh wow I would do that when I was first starting out, glad to know I was doing it the right way, cause copying 100% felt so wrong. I would mostly do it posing a character on a video game, while I listened to its music, as I drew. I am going to do that though with one character of mine.
Basically copying those beautifully done paintings of the barbarians of the 1970s/1980s.. Its for laughs though because the main character, who is a bit of a dork is supposed to see himself as those bad ass warriors, with the hot chicks. But since the character is in a sci-fi fantasy world, taking place in 2183 It reflects that, instead of the full fantasy.. I really love this so much, so amazing!
