How To Draw Noses: Form, Placement, and Artist Study
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 лют 2022
- This video is all about drawing noses. We start with simple form, learn to place the nose accurately on the face from different angles, talk about lighting concepts, and then move on to studies of technique from some of the best artists in comics. This is a re-upload. I put up the unedited version by mistake!!

When David Finch drops nearly an hour video on anatomy you know it’s gonna be dope and you’ll have enough material to study for months. Thanks for your channel and your contribution to comic book art!
Don’t forget to join Dave’s Kickstarter project 🤓👍
It is really incredible how densly packed this 41 minute video is with knowledge and advice. I certainly need to rewatch it a couple of times to let it all sink in.
But most importantly follow his advice of studying other comic book artists constantly
David could have easily made a course online and sell it , but instead he's sharing his knowledge for free .
Really appreciate this gesture and most importantly I'm LEARNING A LOT.👍🏼❤️👏🏼👏🏼
He does have a course online. Skillshare
@@aliakram6675 by any chance, do you know how much is the course?

David Finch is leaving an unprecedent legacy for present and future generations of artists. His contribution is beyond words. A veteran guy in the industry, whose work is awe inspiring is sharing his secrets, tips and experience in a way that's never been done. In Brazil, we'd never have this kind of knowledge, as most of us don't get to go to Kubert School or anything like that. Now, not only he's teaching like a pro, but in a very clear and comprehensive way. This is something that deserves several backups, should the internet in the world collapses LOL! And free of charge! Thank you, David. Thank you so very much. I've been a fan from day one and now I admire you even more.
unreal. I've learned more in a 10 min video with this guy then i have in 2 years of study, and i dont know which is more telling. i think its time to quit my job and watch these DF tutorials full time
I don't understand why this channel has so little subscribers. Your explanation is amazing, it's something which i wasn't able to find and understand from most of the popular artists. I am very pleased that finally I can see how someone draw and explain face features from so many angles! Thank you very much for your hard work, I am very happy I was able to find you channel.
He seriously feels like if Andrew Loomis had a youtube channel.
Man I've been struggling with noses lately and then this video pops into my feed, awesome! Thanks for all the work you do Mr. Finch, I really appreciate it!
I'm extremely thankful for having an experience artist such as yourself, break down many different studies and princples in a simple way for viewers to understand. I tend to struggle with my placement of the eye socket, as well as angling the head in a manner that isn't flat, keeping the illusion of three dimensional form. This video was super helpful.
Mr. Finch, thank you for your time and dedication and continued support for growing the comic and art industry. These lessons are invaluable for all artists. When I am lacking inspiration I turn on your channel and the ideas start to flow!
I LOVE Bruce Timm's and Michael Turner's approach to noses. They are both highly stylized and are just really basic shapes, but they work so well.
this was one of my fav videos. love the bridge from impressionalism structure to comic style. also love the break down of good artists styles
Good, love your lessons David.
Thank you very much for making this video! It's very helpful the way you simplified placement!
I appreciate these great breakdowns! It's always helpful and useful especially if you cant find the right reference or advice to think differently!
Love the way you break this down!🔥
Great video David. Love how you make it clear when we are making abstractions for the sake of line and how looking at artists versus reality fits into the equation as a helpful compilment.
David your tutorials are awesome, you give such good first hand experience info to new artists. love it
Thank you so much for the video David. I still struggle with noses so this video helps me a lot
Thanx for simplifying and Breaking down the shapes of the nose. I'll add these tips to my sketchbook!
Thank you for all the tips. I am repeating over and over on my sketch book to get this style down.😊
The up angle of the nose reminds me of Gil Kane who was fond of that angle. Thanks for sharing your skill and knowledge!
Thanks again Dave, you are by far my favourite UA-cam channel.
This just up'd my game tremendously. Thank you for the vid!!
EXCELLENT video. Gives the foundations and then allows you to choose ways that work for your style. Hope you decide to do this with Head, eyes, mouth too. Soooo informative. Thanks David!!!
Simply amazing skills and succinctly explained. Thank you.
This is now my go-to tutorial when practicing noses. I really like the music in this one, too.
Another great tutorial video, sir. The addition of the study of other artists was a welcome addition. Also, shout out to the editor for the blow ups and static placement alongside the live frame. Nicely done and very helpful. 👍🏻
GREAT STUFF DUDE!

I love your long videos and appreciate your lessons
Thank you!, this video is so helpful.Sometimes you just need the right person to explain something ,for it to make sense 🤘
This was so helpful! Thank you! I’ve recently discovered An appreciation for how Terry Dodson draws noses. Not sure what it is, but I like it.
Thank you so much!! I really improved because of this tutorial
David I watched the unedited 53 minute version Lol and returned for this one both great by the way :) but the music and the slight zoom in and out makes it cooler 👍🏼

And guess what?, I recently had a problem in drawing noses so i went again through your superhero face course, but still had a problem in drawing noses. But this video cleared it all! Thanks again Mr. Finch!!
This is the best nose video ever. Everyone teaches you how to construct the nose. You are the only one who points out the importance of the base of the nose which makes everything click.
It's your voice David describing so simply , I've learned along from your videos I feel happy as soon as I hear your voice I grab. My pencil and mimic your teaching best I cn

I think it's amazing how Dave can make a 20 minute video about the male torso and anatomy, and he can make a 45 minute video about noses
Bridge of the nose-Somehow that is one visual que I have not used very well in the past.

DUDE I WAS STRUGGLING WITH NOSES,THANK YOU SO MUCHHHHHHH
Hey david is it possible to show us more anatomy tutorials the way spiderman swings
Can you make one for hand pls @david
hey david can u do a video for drawing robots or space ships, big fan btw
I would have enjoyed some manga examples now that Mr.Finch has made art of Berserk, the art of Takehiko Inoue, Yusuke Murata, Boichi and of course Kentaro Miura are great for studies. It's not like manga/anime just make a small triangle or dot shape and that's it.
Even artists who focuses on a femenine/soft looking faces like Kentaro Yabuki, Houtengeki and Hiramoto Akira you can see they have a solid understanding on mapping the nose volume even if the nose is small, you can see a subtle line from the eyebrow to the tip of the nose, and the rendering with shades and highlights give a lot of volume to the nose even when at the naked eye the nose looked just like a line or a dot.
Just expressing my POV on manga noses hoping it gets addressed even for a short explanation/mention.
As art students, we were encouraged to not only look at life, but also at other artists work. That included the greats from the past, each other’s work, and also modern greats whose work could be found in advertising and other commercial work. Why not look at great comic book artists’ work if your ultimate goal is to do comic book art? Looking at everything helps you to produce your own things; your perspective.
Hi
I just started learning art and I wanna know if I can do that digitally
I wanted to know your opinion :)
Man, I love your channel, and watch/listen at work, during downtime. It all seemed very digestible, until I tried to sketch along. It sounds and feels like it’s sped up 2x lol. My brain got so jumbled, trying to take in the rapid info. Had to rewatch parts 5 times and it’s still too fast for me. I appreciate the speed, when just watching, because some of these instructors, is like watching paint drying, but it’s nearly impossible for me to sketch along, with my ADHD.
Thank you for the good avise. But I' m strugeling most with the mout in different angles. Can you Show that to please?
Awesome video pls don’t forget to get your MNDS1 copy only one week left! 🐔👍
You make it look so easy. It wants me to take a piece of paper and a pencil just draw what you draw
