It’s remarkable the progress we see today with the iPhone 15 Pro vs a pro camera. This gives folks like myself who would never make the big investment in a pro camera a sense of what it means to take amazing shots on an iPhone budget. Thank you for this video, Kevin.
These comparisons have been made several times in recent years. For the normal user, a camera like this produces very good results for his needs. For the professional sector the differences are enormously greater. A professional camera would therefore be a waste of money for a normal user.

The blurriness of the portrait mode on iPhone is done in post process and you can see how it sometimes fails to preserve "intrusions" of smaller details which are in focus into the background, such as the thorns of the rose.
Cell phones have came a long way for photography but I still like the photos that are shot out of Fujifilm camera more. Especially when it comes to dial in specific settings. Those settings on the other hand are for novice or first time photographers. The good thing about the iPhone is, you literally pick it up and it’s user friendly while my Fujifilm will probably look complicated and complex to novice photographers.
a sponsored video? LOL you could compare it with any cheap DSLR camera (Canon 550D, for example) - 10 times less expensive! no need to pay extra! also, try to shoot well any fast-moving subject, like a flying bird; I'm not even saying about the raw format which is way better for heavy post processing

Great comparison Kevin! I have pixel and I use it everyday to take the pictures. Smartphones have come a long way but the moment you zoom in on smartphone pictures they tend to fall apart. for social media I think iPhones have replaced many cheaper cameras. iPhone have been dominating video content creation market for a while now. HDR videos looks unreal from an iPhone.
Excellent comparison, I’m blown away by the quality of the camera phones these days. I’m also surprised by the five times zoom from the iPhone 15 Pro Max, I didn’t think it would be that good. It’s very interesting to get advice from a professional photographer, as opposed to simply watching Apple described the camera.

Great video. Two things I still miss on Iphone cameras is a superzoom and improved low-light performance. But considering the size of a smartphone camera, I think that's probably too much to ask! Anyway, their evolution is incredible, and in such short time.
Thanks Kevin, it's quite amazing how smart phone camera's have started catching up to mirrorless cameras. I have an R5 and a Galaxy S21 Ultra. It's hard to beat the convenience of a phone camera but when it comes to adaptability with a myriad of lens choices i.e. macro lens, super telephoto, wide angle etc. for mirrorless cameras they are very much alive.

I'm not super big into photography and don't often take a lot of photos with my phone. But I was Surprised at the few I got wrong when looking at the comparisons. I think Camera's on phones have just reached a point where they are "Good Enough" for most use cases. While a true Mirrorless DSLR and appropriate Lense combination will allow for higher quality final products in the end. The trade offs between cost, and ease of use make their own arguments.
You've made a valid point; for casual users, smartphones now offer "good enough" quality, while dedicated cameras with the right lenses can provide superior results, but there's definitely a trade-off between cost and ease of use to consider when choosing the right tool for the job.
As a photographer who started back loading film in to a dark slide way back when, I am constantly blown away with the quality and ruggedness of the iPhone. I no longer get may arms stretched carrying around huge amounts of heavy lighting such as flash packs etc. Yes the pro camera still has the edge but only just, these days. Soon it will be superseded but not quite yet!
Wow, Excellent video comparison. I like the fact of how quickly you are able to explain this in 8 minutes. I think you should compare it with other cheap DSLR camera and also try to shooting fast-moving subject, like a moving car. I also don't think that professional cameras are dead because smartphones can't produce that natural blur that cameras do although they are getting really really close to it and also I don't think any smartphone will come close to cameras when it comes to optical zoom P.s I loved this video💯

A decade or more ago I got hired to do a pro job for a new event venue that needed interior photographs for their website and other advertising. I did it in the regular fashion… the camera up on a tripod taking my time adjusting light and result? Plenty of great shots. Then after packing everything up, I was about to walk out the door and I just decided to snap a couple of shots using my new iPhone 4 at the time. The client was very happy with all of the work but then when I showed her what I did with the iPhone she said “oh my gosh this is wonderful,” and for five years that was the front page of their website, so I totally agree with you. There are plenty of situations where an iPhone will outperform its looks as a pro device.
Phones comes very close to DSLRs - nice to see your report and tests. I'm waiting for my iPhone 15 Pro Max - some people say it's not the best smartphone camera.
I just recently upgraded to the iPhone 15 plus. I do a lot of filming in the woods where there is low light. I have an extra light in my GoPro. But what would be the best setting for filming with the phone.

Hey Kevin Raposo, I just watched your this video comparing the iPhone 15 Pro Max to a professional camera, and I have to say, it was truly impressive! Your attention to detail and thorough analysis were outstanding. Great job on the video, Kevin! Your content is always top-notch, and this one was no exception. Keep up the fantastic work, and I'm looking forward to your next upload! 📷👏👍
Great video and perfect comparison I needed to make decisions upgrading my gear for our drone business. I’m weary of carrying a full frame camera when doing interior real estate photos. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
The specs on our canon are not as good as our iPhone 12 Pro Max and it has become increasingly difficult to tell, post processing which is which. Our customers have been very happy with our work and they, as well, were unable to tell the difference. We live in a much smaller market than most metro areas so the choice between a new iPhone($1100) and a new full frame($10k) is getting easier. Thank you for your input! We are always open to constructive criticism and grateful for advice. 😉🙏🏻
I have a Canon RP and an iPhone 14 Pro Max (waiting on my backordered 15 Pro Max). I have to say, the convenience of carrying the iPhone in a pocket and getting such great photos has really impressed me. I’ve been shooting with a large full frame camera at work for about 20 years now, and for most of what I do the iPhone is easily becoming the replacement for day to day use. I still do use my Canon for events or pictures I know I need the best image quality. I find that when I zoom in at full resolution the iPhone can appear a bit fuzzy in some areas compared to the full frame digital with better glass, but for online or quick snapshots throughout the day the iPhone wins in my opinion. Thank you for the great video!
Great video and quick question... I'm going to be shooting track and field events (high Jump/100m/200m) for my kids events. I thought maybe I can bring out of storage my Canon T2i and up the lens to a 70-200 f2.8 lense. Is that body too old to get quick shots/good video and provide great results, do I stick to using my iphone 15 pro or upgrade the body to a R series.
I’m thinking of traveling without a camera anymore. The iPhone weighs a lot less and takes up much less room. Have you tried the raw shooting with the iPhone 15 pro max? How did you find that compared with your camera?

Thanks for this balanced summary of the pros and cons. I have an Olympus E-M1 Mk2 and take hundreds of shots a day out around France where I live. More and more I find I leave the OM behind despite it being so compact. The iPhone 14 ProMax I bought earlier in the year has been a game changer really. Superb images without a lot of hassle. But when I take the Olympus out I immediately realise why I prefer that format. With a 14-150 lens I am able to wander around and take pretty much anything I want right through the day and into the night all handheld. I am not into post processing (yet) so just make do what I can set up and the complexity of these modern cameras is incredible. I think one major plus of a dedicated camera is the viewfinder as the touch screen can be a real pain both for lighting reasons and accidently switching to a different mode. Lastly ability to 3D scan using both LIDAR and Photogrammetry with such apps as Scaniverse is fantastic.
Hi, I am interested to know whether the autofocus speed and accuracy of 15 Pro Max can compare to Canon R5 or R7 when taking a picture of a kid moving erratically; daylight conditions, eye detection

This is one topic I thought of a few years ago. Why spend many thousands of dollars for a bulky device when you could spend just over one and get a very good camera in such a small profile + it's a smartphone too. Makes me curious on what will happen to the camera market in the future. Since phone cameras are strongly competing.
AS A PHOTOGRAPHER MYSELF, I NEVER TEST THE PICTURE QUALITY OF MY IPHONE 14 PRO MAX, THAT STARTS TO CHANGE TODAY AFTER WATCHING YOUR VIDEO. YOU HAVE A NEW SUBSCRIBER.
You can buy a Nikon D3x for $840 (from 2008), a 50mm f1.4 for $200 and take professional photos which a far better than what iPhone 15 pro max takes. No need to spend $10,000 :)
You can also buy a garbage truck and empty your own trash but it’d only be a waste for someone that doesn’t work with it or REALLY loves garbage trucks for some reason. Same thing, a camera is bulky, relatively manual and completely useless for anyone but the tiniest amount of people who do work taking pictures or who are enthusiast that have it as a big hobby. For casual everyday use, a phone camera with its automatization of the process, insanely good quality for its size and simplicity and super fast point and click level of easy, beats a pro camera every day in every relevant category.
Very informative. I’ve ordered a new iPhone 15 pro Max and this has helped me with my decision. can you add lenses on the cinematic lens? such as the anamorphic lens pleas.

The good thing about smartphone cameras is they are the ones that are present and available to use so often when a 'proper' camera was left behind at home due to lack of portability and convenience. Smartphones are often 'Johnny on the spot' cameras, which is better than missing out on a recording opportunity altogether.

It’s remarkable the progress we see today with the iPhone 15 Pro vs a pro camera. This gives folks like myself who would never make the big investment in a pro camera a sense of what it means to take amazing shots on an iPhone budget. Thank you for this video, Kevin.
glad you enjoyed it!
These comparisons have been made several times in recent years. For the normal user, a camera like this produces very good results for his needs. For the professional sector the differences are enormously greater. A professional camera would therefore be a waste of money for a normal user.

Thank you for a great video I had made my mind up now I place an ordered iPhone 15 pro max now awesome comparison 👌 hope you have a great day 8:22 👍🏼😄🙏
The blurriness of the portrait mode on iPhone is done in post process and you can see how it sometimes fails to preserve "intrusions" of smaller details which are in focus into the background, such as the thorns of the rose.
You've highlighted an important distinction. Thanks for watching!
a sponsored video? LOL
you could compare it with any cheap DSLR camera (Canon 550D, for example) - 10 times less expensive! no need to pay extra!
also, try to shoot well any fast-moving subject, like a flying bird; I'm not even saying about the raw format which is way better for heavy post processing
Great comparison! It's nice to see the difference between an iPhone and a professional camera. Kudos to the effort put into this vlog, allowing us to appreciate the strengths of each device. With rapidly evolving technology, consumers are the real winners. 📸📱

Wow great video! Crazy how much Phones have evolved
I do feel the HDR looks a little unrealistic but nonetheless impressive coming from a phone
It is really impressive how fast the phone cameras have improved. Just waiting for that next big leap in low light performance. Great video

Hi Mr. Kevin. Great video. Really appreciate your in depth analysis of the iPhone 15 Pro Max's camera capabilities. Have you tried testing the "Log" video format 15 Pro's support? I am curious to know your take on the "Log" video format that 15 Pro's support. Is it going to be of any use to average users?

Great video. Two things I still miss on Iphone cameras is a superzoom and improved low-light performance. But considering the size of a smartphone camera, I think that's probably too much to ask! Anyway, their evolution is incredible, and in such short time.
They will fix that too soon enough lol. How they get bigger sensors is above my pay grade. Maybe they find a workable

Beautiful comparison. Interesting, Subscribed
I could EASILY tell the difference in quality between the two... big difference.
Wow, Excellent video comparison. I like the fact of how quickly you are able to explain this in 8 minutes. I think you should compare it with other cheap DSLR camera and also try to shooting fast-moving subject, like a moving car. I also don't think that professional cameras are dead because smartphones can't produce that natural blur that cameras do although they are getting really really close to it and also I don't think any smartphone will come close to cameras when it comes to optical zoom
P.s I loved this video💯
Even the fact that we are comparing cell phones to $30k+ cameras is simply amazing on its own.

So crazy! I wasn’t even trying to figure out which photo was taken by the iPhone but just deciding which picture I liked best. And more than 50% of the time it was actually the iPhone ones! It’s time to get one and get used to it for smaller video work. Thank for this great comparison!
Until you do the test yourself and learn more about photography... Then you realize that a Nikon D3x from 2008 (currently sold at $840) with a prime 50mm f1.4 lens for about $200 mops the floor with any iPhone and is also cheaper, and the image quality is far superior.

When you zoom in you’ll know which one’s the winner
Really good video! Trying to figure out what is my next camera- iphone 15 pro max or Sony a7iv, still can’t decide 😃
go with the Sony for any serious work

Great video -- how would you rate the camera of the Samsung S23 with your Cannon?
I'm new to the photography field and thanks to your video, I will be trying my iPhone first to build up my experience. Keep making the great videos!!
Great video and perfect comparison I needed to make decisions upgrading my gear for our drone business. I’m weary of carrying a full frame camera when doing interior real estate photos. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
still would advise a full frame camera for interior photos if you’re doing professional work!

Thanks for the info. Any idea how the newest Samsung camera compares to the iPhone?
I enjoy your videos because you speak clearly and not as fast as some others. Thanks.
Hi Kevin, a simple question... is Apple using the same colometry than Canon? The colors are similar
Hi, I am interested to know whether the autofocus speed and accuracy of 15 Pro Max can compare to Canon R5 or R7 when taking a picture of a kid moving erratically; daylight conditions, eye detection

Thank u so much for this video, I have been using my I-phone more often for my UA-cam channel. It’s amazing how great these phones have become.
I am wondering, can adding detachable lens to iphone would make it as close as professional camera?
This is one topic I thought of a few years ago. Why spend many thousands of dollars for a bulky device when you could spend just over one and get a very good camera in such a small profile + it's a smartphone too.
Makes me curious on what will happen to the camera market in the future. Since phone cameras are strongly competing.
pro cameras do still serve some purpose when it comes to tough lighting conditions!
Its about enjoyment. I enjoy using my mirror less, DSLR and my camera phone 😊
AS A PHOTOGRAPHER MYSELF, I NEVER TEST THE PICTURE QUALITY OF MY IPHONE 14 PRO MAX, THAT STARTS TO CHANGE TODAY AFTER WATCHING YOUR VIDEO. YOU HAVE A NEW SUBSCRIBER.
Great video! It’s really cool to see how close the iPhone is getting to a professional camera.
You can buy a Nikon D3x for $840 (from 2008), a 50mm f1.4 for $200 and take professional photos which a far better than what iPhone 15 pro max takes. No need to spend $10,000 :)
But ONLY take professional photos, not everything else that an iPhone does.
Which external drive would you prefer to shoot ProRes 4K60 on the new Pro‘s?

The good thing about smartphone cameras is they are the ones that are present and available to use so often when a 'proper' camera was left behind at home due to lack of portability and convenience. Smartphones are often 'Johnny on the spot' cameras, which is better than missing out on a recording opportunity altogether.
