** TRANSCRIPT **
The truth is that iPhone and mobile phone cameras in general have improved to the point where I no longer feel the need to bring my camera gear with me for personal reasons, and I find myself using the iPhone more often for professional reasons.
I would never have said those words three years ago.
Let me show you something. I took these pictures with the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Even when I pixel peep, these are still impressive, clean images with very little post-processing required. In any kind of personal setting, this is exactly what I’m looking for: low-effort, high-quality images.
But no, professional cameras are not dead. I still can’t shoot razor-sharp 50 megapixel images on my iPhone without pixel-binning. I still can’t shoot slow-motion 4K at 120 FPS like this on an iPhone.
If you’ve been watching me or this UA-cam channel for any extended length of time, you’ll know that I’m a strong proponent of adopting new technologies and leveraging them to monetize your work. Augmenting the existing work that I already do with the iPhone puts me at a huge advantage when compared to other content creators. There’s no reason you can’t do the same thing!

Cell phones are getting closer and closer, but just to casual photos. When we talk about nature photography for instance, it's another story...
agree, professional cameras still serve a purpose in this instance
Why does S23 appear here?? The S23 Ultra is uglier and is a complete victory for Apple.
@@hyunk5099 If you want the best photos from a phone you'd use a Google Pixel. iPhones are middle of the pack in photography.
Watch my unboxing of the iPhone 15 Pro Max!! 📦
@@hyunk5099lol...relax. The ULTRA is miles better.
Nice video - straight to the point. I'm up at UCLA at lot and right before the summer begins you see a lot of people taking graduation photos. It used to be that it was photographers with a c-stand, a light, an assistant and a pro camera and a student. Now you rarely see the pro set ups anymore. You just see photographers with iPhones lol
appreciate it, glad you enjoyed the video! and yes, lot of iPhone photographers these days lol
Will they charge less because of less overhead?
Maybe try viewing the photos on a big screen or zooming in or printing.
If your photographer uses an iPhone, find a new photographer!
@@dr7319 Oh I couldn't agree more, just saying though, it's what I'm seeing. It's a big shift that happened fairly suddenly.
Thank you for this great comparison! I especially love how you got to the point immediately - no intro, sponsor, or asking for likes or subscribers
Full marks for a great video that showed how close phone cameras have come but showed the weaknesses at the same time. Thanks for helping me understand differences in side by side examples.
It also depends on where you are viewing the images. If it’s just on social media the new phones are great. If it’s on a 4K monitor you want to use a professional camera
Most people watched this video on phones and on UA-cam. I take shots all the time on my 13pro/14pro/15pro and they just don’t compare to a traditional pro camera. They simply can’t. You can’t cheat physics/light. You can make the most of a small sensor, yes apple has done this, and it’s a marvel. For what most people do with snapshots these days, yes the iPhone is plenty!! But someone who purposefully shoots with a traditional camera, it does not truly replace it.
@@justlou717 I have 1500 dollars, what should I buy, 15 pro max or pro camera?
@@sarkis4876 do you need a cell phone?
@@justlou717Hm, I think no, I have redmi note 12 and it works well so far. I really love photography and I can’t figure out what’s better to buy for a beginner photographer at this price
@@sarkis4876 if this is a real situation, please don’t spend $1500 on a camera, you can get a fantastic starter camera for a few hundred dollars and truly learn how to take photos. I’d suggest looking at the Fuji cameras from a few years ago as a starter place. Lots of value and fun

As a 75 year old wildlife and nature photographer, I just bought iPhone 15pro max and really appreciated your comparison. While I won't be giving up my Sony and Cannon SLR with 100 to 400mm zoom, I love the idea thatI don't need to carry them with me all the time because of the new iPhone capabilities. Will be eager to learn more from your videos.
You won't see much better detail with a canon 100 to 400mm zoom, budget lens.
@bigjohn2810 Nice to have a decent phone cam in a pinch, but considering the iphone 5x lens is 120mm (35mm equivalent) and only 12mp, a 24+mp DSLR or Mirrorless cam would be significantly more detailed, even at the wider end of the 100-400mm. The telephoto end would completely destroy the phone.
Hey Kevin Raposo,
I just watched your this video comparing the iPhone 15 Pro Max to a professional camera, and I have to say, it was truly impressive! Your attention to detail and thorough analysis were outstanding.
I appreciated how you delved into every aspect of the iPhone's camera capabilities and compared them to a dedicated professional camera. Your explanations were clear and easy to follow, making it an excellent resource for anyone (including me 😄)interested in photography or considering the iPhone 15 Pro Max for their creative pursuits.
Great job on the video, Kevin! Your content is always top-notch, and this one was no exception. Keep up the fantastic work, and I'm looking forward to your next upload! 📷👏👍

agreed!
I'm a keen amateur photographer but over the last few years, I've been shooting a lot on my iPhone 12 Pro. I've just replaced it with the 15 Pro. The leaps in technology are amazing. Makes you wonder what cameras on phones will be like in another 5-10 years.

glad you enjoyed the comparison!
I upgraded from a 14 pro max and I was not expecting much of an upgrade to the camera but I’m impressed with the improvements.
Waith til the iPhone 16 comes out next year 😬
Excellent info and well presented. Definitely food for thought for my next trip to Australia
Thank you for a very good video. I had thought of looking into the new iPhone for camera use. Now I definitely will do so!
Glad it was helpful!
Was good to watch your video after a long time :). I still remember the excellent video you made comparing the Canon 5D MK IV and the R6. Crisp concise and well made and good points. I do remember using my friend's iPhone 14 Pro Max on the trip we took last year and i just loved the convenience. Pretty tempted to get at least a used 13 Pro Max :)
Great comparison Kevin! I have pixel and I use it everyday to take the pictures. Smartphones have come a long way but the moment you zoom in on smartphone pictures they tend to fall apart. for social media I think iPhones have replaced many cheaper cameras. iPhone have been dominating video content creation market for a while now. HDR videos looks unreal from an iPhone.
I do feel the HDR looks a little unrealistic but nonetheless impressive coming from a phone
I just bought an iPhone 15 Pro Max and was happy to see your video validating my purchase. What gimbal setup do you recommend for the iPhone 15 Pro Max for minimizing bumpy shots while on the go? Thanks. Edwin B
Thank you for the video! It's really valuable!
Thanks Kevin, it's quite amazing how smart phone camera's have started catching up to mirrorless cameras. I have an R5 and a Galaxy S21 Ultra. It's hard to beat the convenience of a phone camera but when it comes to adaptability with a myriad of lens choices i.e. macro lens, super telephoto, wide angle etc. for mirrorless cameras they are very much alive.

As an owner of a 6D Canon rig, it is impressive how close phone cameras are getting to SLR's. I do agree that the Canon rig is so big and heavy that on a recent trip I decided just to bring the phone. Also the SLR investment is substantial. I enjoyed your video, thanks.

Wow, Excellent video comparison. I like the fact of how quickly you are able to explain this in 8 minutes. I think you should compare it with other cheap DSLR camera and also try to shooting fast-moving subject, like a moving car. I also don't think that professional cameras are dead because smartphones can't produce that natural blur that cameras do although they are getting really really close to it and also I don't think any smartphone will come close to cameras when it comes to optical zoom
P.s I loved this video💯
I agree with your comment about how professional cameras are not going to go obsolete however these phone cameras are really becoming something of its own kind! I can't imagine how little difference an average person can tell b/w a camera vs. iphone results. Cool content!
yep, things have come a long way!
It was good to getting all these information from you! Thanks 😊
Very good video! Informative, articulate and charismatic personality. I subscribed after just one vid!!
Excellent comparison, I’m blown away by the quality of the camera phones these days. I’m also surprised by the five times zoom from the iPhone 15 Pro Max, I didn’t think it would be that good. It’s very interesting to get advice from a professional photographer, as opposed to simply watching Apple described the camera.
Cellular phones have really advanced over the years. Funny thing is that for as much creativity you can have with it, the most fundamental thing the device was made for hasn't improved, the call quality and the fact that they still drop calls. Loved the video

I was hoping to hold onto my13 Pro Max for about 3-5 years, but between the glaring difference in photo quality and finally updating to USB-C, I went out and got a 15 Pro Max.
this review had nothing to do with USB-C but I will admit that it was so nice to be finally using it
a sponsored video? LOL
you could compare it with any cheap DSLR camera (Canon 550D, for example) - 10 times less expensive! no need to pay extra!
also, try to shoot well any fast-moving subject, like a flying bird; I'm not even saying about the raw format which is way better for heavy post processing
Lots of information I could certainly use in your videos, your tips have helped a lot.
This is a video that I have been looking forward to for a long time, thank you very much 👍❤
It’s remarkable the progress we see today with the iPhone 15 Pro vs a pro camera. This gives folks like myself who would never make the big investment in a pro camera a sense of what it means to take amazing shots on an iPhone budget. Thank you for this video, Kevin.
glad you enjoyed it!
These comparisons have been made several times in recent years. For the normal user, a camera like this produces very good results for his needs. For the professional sector the differences are enormously greater. A professional camera would therefore be a waste of money for a normal user.

Wow, Excellent video, comparison, and very instructive. Amazing how far smartphone cameras have come. I agree that adapting to the practicality of newer technology is very rewarding and accepting its shortcomings is worth it. Being more efficient with time and energy allowing for greater content output and flexibility. Cheers.
Appreciate the kind words! Glad you found this instructive.
Fantastic material!! Appreciate your knowledge 😃😃😃

Nice information I got idea now tqs for giving me great information.
Great video. Two things I still miss on Iphone cameras is a superzoom and improved low-light performance. But considering the size of a smartphone camera, I think that's probably too much to ask! Anyway, their evolution is incredible, and in such short time.
They will fix that too soon enough lol. How they get bigger sensors is above my pay grade. Maybe they find a workable
I'm not super big into photography and don't often take a lot of photos with my phone. But I was Surprised at the few I got wrong when looking at the comparisons. I think Camera's on phones have just reached a point where they are "Good Enough" for most use cases. While a true Mirrorless DSLR and appropriate Lense combination will allow for higher quality final products in the end. The trade offs between cost, and ease of use make their own arguments.
You've made a valid point; for casual users, smartphones now offer "good enough" quality, while dedicated cameras with the right lenses can provide superior results, but there's definitely a trade-off between cost and ease of use to consider when choosing the right tool for the job.
such a great comparison of details to look out for. Really helps me figure what I'm looking for to get fantastic non professional photos and how close it really is to professional equipment
Great video. Really impressive to see how far phone cameras have come.
glad you enjoyed the video!
I could EASILY tell the difference in quality between the two... big difference.
The man who don't know how to use 10,000$ gear will stay forever with his phone
Thanks for this balanced summary of the pros and cons. I have an Olympus E-M1 Mk2 and take hundreds of shots a day out around France where I live. More and more I find I leave the OM behind despite it being so compact. The iPhone 14 ProMax I bought earlier in the year has been a game changer really. Superb images without a lot of hassle. But when I take the Olympus out I immediately realise why I prefer that format. With a 14-150 lens I am able to wander around and take pretty much anything I want right through the day and into the night all handheld. I am not into post processing (yet) so just make do what I can set up and the complexity of these modern cameras is incredible. I think one major plus of a dedicated camera is the viewfinder as the touch screen can be a real pain both for lighting reasons and accidently switching to a different mode. Lastly ability to 3D scan using both LIDAR and Photogrammetry with such apps as Scaniverse is fantastic.

Cell phones have came a long way for photography but I still like the photos that are shot out of Fujifilm camera more. Especially when it comes to dial in specific settings. Those settings on the other hand are for novice or first time photographers. The good thing about the iPhone is, you literally pick it up and it’s user friendly while my Fujifilm will probably look complicated and complex to novice photographers.
You've highlighted an important distinction. Thanks for watching!
I think the side-by-side comparison was great! It is amazing to see how far the iPhone camera has come over the last couple of years.

Thank u so much for this video, I have been using my I-phone more often for my UA-cam channel. It’s amazing how great these phones have become.
Great video, loved the comparison shots!
So crazy! I wasn’t even trying to figure out which photo was taken by the iPhone but just deciding which picture I liked best. And more than 50% of the time it was actually the iPhone ones! It’s time to get one and get used to it for smaller video work. Thank for this great comparison!
Until you do the test yourself and learn more about photography... Then you realize that a Nikon D3x from 2008 (currently sold at $840) with a prime 50mm f1.4 lens for about $200 mops the floor with any iPhone and is also cheaper, and the image quality is far superior.
This is the type of positive message we should get across the camera world. One tool fits a purpose. Really impressed with the quality. Remember those pictures from the nokia phone not long enough?...Amazing.
Thanks I needed this information. So now I know what to do
