Actually, we kind of messed up the M 340i's tuning run to be honest. By using 3rd to 5th gear as we did for the stock run, we would have probably even been a bit faster... Still almost M4 time! ;)
Great video!! I have an F30 B58 w/ mppsk, dinan springs, and I've upgraded my tires to 245/40ZR19s (front) / 265/35ZR19s (rear). I'm looking at the Dinan cold air intake, and may add the JB4. My goal is to be about 425hp / 440 ft/lbs torque. Your video mentions the downpipe install + GTS black. Do you think your install solution of these two items would bring my car to the levels I'm trying to reach?
With the first version of the B58 you can reach up to 400 HP (crank) without mods so getting to around 425 HP (also crank, of course) with a down pipe and a RaceChip GTS Black should definitely be possible. However, if you decide to go with our product, please reach out to our technical customer service so they can tell you which setting to use with a modded car.

I love watching these videos, seeing their facility, equipment and processes knowing that they tuned my car!! RaceChip transformed my car into something I don't recognize! We are talking adding a turbo or supercharger level of difference along with Roar Pedal and K&N filter little race ⛽️ fuel I am living my dream.

I am glad the shops are still using M4 as a benchmark for new generation tuning, I bought M4 because f82 is one of the last generation RWD M cars, and the G generation was designed by a previous Citreon designer, I'm not fan of it.
God help that m340i driver should he ever run into a tuned f82 M4 haha

Numbers only tell part of the story. The M340i is quite a bit faster in stock form than an M4 from a dig race despite the power difference due to the xdrive system. A side by side race tuned vs tuned comparison would have still been interesting. I think the M340i takes both races tbh. Rolling races might be a different story.

If your looking to be faster than m340s just get z4 sdrive35is. Strap some bolts ons to i, get a tune and get different injectors and fuel pump turn boost up a bit you will hit over 500hp for less than 1000$. I smoke stock m4s m3s Rs4s etc etc..

On the 2nd gen b58 not being a completely different engine I’d have to disagree. It has a reworked head for cooling and a better hpfp are two of the biggest things but all in all has so many other smaller ones that it is a completely different engine with the same name

That m4 was in manual mode shifting early and the gearbox wasnt in the top setting either for fastest shifts? Youre missing about 800 rpm at the top
Let me repeat my answer from an older comment which mentioned the same issue: It's actually where the M4 shift flash (in the heads up display) suggests to shift so that's what we went with. We also tried some runs in automatic mode but it didn't make a difference. Since 9,2s with two people in the car is pretty much in the same ballpark as other runs you can find on the internet, we went with that.
However, as mentioned in our VoiceOver, with driver only you should be able to get even lower 9 seconds times, maybe even high 8s. But: we drove the M 340i with two people in the car as well so I'm not sure if it would be an actual advantage for the M4.
Regarding the shift settings, you are right sir. The M2 mode was set to the second of three modes and we just missed to change it after restarting the car at some point. However, I guess this didn't decrease acceleration significantly. Hope this clarifies things a bit :)

Great video! Watched the whole thing. Thinking of buying my m340i instead of leasing the new ones. So I can install a downpipe and decent tune, but what are you thoughts on still using it a daily driver? Any effects for using a tune even when you keep up with maintenance?

Im Video-Fahrzeug ist das Eibach Pro Street Multi verbaut. Also ein einstellbares Gewindefahrwerk. Viel Spaß mit deinem M 340i und dem GTS Black!
The M340i also seemed to be let down by slower gear changes in the 100-200? atleast to what I could see. :-)
A wonderful comparison and I share your passion for the B58. I have the M340i touring xdrive and the way this motor responds is just amazing. The sound is classic - I think the single twin scroll turbo 'embedded' close to the intake is the key to that. If I was ever to modify/tune this do you export the packs ? The down pip[e seems a pre-requisite given the gains made just this that.
Congrats to your M 340i touring! We ship our products all around the world and you can install them by yourself in a matter of around 15 minutes. Down pipe for the b58 definitely has a bigger effect than for a lot of other engines but even without, you can get to around 460 HP with a tune. For the 480 HP which you saw in the video, the down pipe's mandatory.

Thanks! Will work on the 2021 model just fine because there won't be any changes engine wise. Correct, blue line on the chart and the respective numbers on the right of the chart is WHP.

We're offering performance boosts for the F90 M5, both standard and Competition model. Regarding stage 2, please contact our technical customer service at support@racechip.com because it's important for us to know which mods you're planning to install before shipping your product. However, we can't remove the limiter because we're not overwriting the manufacturer ECU.

The M4 we've used for the comparison is a Competition Model. Sorry in case we didn't mention that in our video.

M4 has 7 heat exchangers to manage higher temps from a higher state of tune. A chip may allow the M340i to make more power, but what about additional cooling and effect on reliability of drivetrain over a few years?
Just question if you ask me. Including a downpipe and remapping definitely asks for a charge-air cooling system, otherwise it will damage the motor.
I wanted a Supra but this video may have convinced me to check out the m340i 🤔
Well, the latest Supra also has the revised B58 so I guess it comes down to styling and how many seats you'd like to have :)
The 340i is a cooler car IMO
Supra blows it away style wise. This looks good, but looks like every other BMW. The Supra looks insane in real life.

If you were willing to go with a Supra then go with a M240i. Faster then the m340i and it looks much better being a coupe.

Hello, is the M340i dyno run performed on setting 7? Do you have power and torque values for settings 5, 6, 7? And is the Racechip safe to leave on 7 permanently? Thanks.
Map 5 is better for everyday use…Map 6 is the quickest on mine and Map 7 just doesn’t feel right

Does the downpipe make an immediate difference to the engine note/noise? Just wondering as my m140i sounds nothing like that?!
The M 340i sounds a little bit better than the previous B58 models even in stock. BMW seems to have invested some work in the sound. Nonetheless, the downpipe still helps a lot, definitely makes a huge difference to stock.

You were not pushing M4 to the limiter. But m340 was hitting red line.

What is the suspension setup? Is it factory shocks with eibach springs? Coilovers?

I kinda prefer awd in canada's winter, plus m3 crank hub issue scared me so much, tuning that car isn't an option
guys, so how does it work with german legislation? :-) the TUV, dont they have an issue with emissions, when you go to tuv inspection with catless downpipes (and removed opf i guess too, right?)
Wenn es dir um die Version im Video geht, dort ist ein Kat Verbaut und ebenso ein OPF. Keine Probleme beim TÜV. Wenn Du den Kat und OPF entfernst gibts natürlich Ärger und kein TÜV ;)
My M340i is due to arrive in April - did this car have the downpipe but keep the OPF? I wonder if the new mild hybrid system will totally destroy the sound of the B58.
Hi Nadeem, the M 340i we've tested had a downpipe with 200 cell HJS cat and kept the original OPF unit.

Why compare a tuned sedan against a couple? Why not testing the M340 against the 4 door M3? Wouldn't that make more sense? Or are we just assuming their tuned M340 is outperforming the F80 M3, and going after the next, better performing M car?

Question. When you dyno one specific car for making the chip, how do you know the chip works just as good in other cars of the same model? All engines are abit different i guess.
And does the tuned M340i need 98 octanes or higher or do you make the chip for 95 octanes?

Was your m4 in sport+ mode? looks like you had it in Eco engine with sport transmission. You could put both in sport+, it would make it a fair comparison.

How can I get that same exhaust sound of the m340i on a 540i? Is it just the exhaust?
For as far as I know they both use the same b58 engine at different states of tune so I'm going to assume that you just need to get a Performance exhaust or one similar .
Engine is b58 in both cases. However, the 540i is a lot quieter in stock than the M 340i so you might wanna think about getting a sports exhaust (best case turbo back but cat back should also help).

Seeing the most recent spy pics of the G80 M3 with the huge ass kidneys from the M4 i have to say that i would take the M340i over the G80 any day, no matter how good it drives.
It'll probably be the most impressive ugly car ever... But let's wait for the final car and keep optimistic until then :)

Is 405 PS at wheel or at crank?? Dyno usually is at wheel...
In Europe, dyno runs always show engine horsepower which is a result of wheel horsepower + drivetrain loss. We explained that quite detailed in another video, check it out: ua-cam.com/video/dtavbg72xEg/v-deo.html

Depends if you have a AWD or RWD.
Arround 60HP for RWD, Arround 90HP for AWD.
Drivetrain loss is getting measured on our dyno after each run, so we have exact values.
You can spot it in the video as well (on the dyno screen -> P-Schlepp = drivetrain loss)

Our products work with all variants of the B58 engine while with the older version, performance gains are a little more conservative of course (around 405 HP are possible without additional mods). Please note that in the US, the X3 M40i has been released with both variants of the B58 engine. If you can tell me you exact horsepower values I can check out data base for the respective product.

M340i can safely run tunes...stage 1, stage 2, even more with no problems. Zf Transmission is strong as well
@@davis7323 The ZF transmission in M340i is rated at 500Nm of torque therefore any tuning goes beyond it's specification. Is it really safe?

Hello Nice M340i, My wife got the Rwd here in the U.S. What is difference between GTS & RS? If I decide to put it back to stock tune will it be easy?

But in short, with the GTS Black you get more power and better features, most importantly: 2 year engine warranty, 1 re-programming if you change to another car in the future
Putting the car back to stock is pretty easy:
Version 1: Simply deactivate the tuning in the app (in case you opt in for the app feature) or put the GTS Black on mapping 0 (if you don't get the app) and the car runs with stock power right away.
Version 2: Deinstall the product including wire harness and it's back to stock for good (which is what most people do before giving the car into service at the dealership)
