Years ago a very windy and steep mountain road between two towns I lived in was completely reconstructed. During the process, the construction crews pulled out over 50 vehicles from the canyon, some with human remains in them. The ones with remains where vehicles that no one knew were down in the thick brush and solved the missing person cases. Each time a vehicle was discovered with remains in it, the site was shut down while the coroner was called out. Because there were so many vehicles being located, the sheriff department eventually kept a csi deputy on scene during operation hours so things could continue without shutting down the construction sites.

That 5Ton wrecker reminds me of when I entered the Military in 2005. I joined the MP's of the Mississippi National Guard. We had a mechanic SFC that wore a white rag around his head as if he was a Ninja. He slept in that truck, ate in it and nobody sat on it or drove it but him. Called it Bertha and had it painted on the hood of the truck. We tore up all kinds of trucks from Engines to shafts and he rolled in cursing and spitting tobacco. He fixed them or pulled them out. LP/OP's (observation / listening posts) in the middle of nowhere and then a tranny went out or started smelling. This video reminds me of NTC at Fort Irwin California with hills like Ft. Hunter Liggett and Camp Robinson. Drops, hills and curves. Love it folks.

I used to work for the Forest Service and run maintenance on all these roads. In about 2010, some punks tried to run our 45k lb excavator off the canyon road and down this very ravine. They walked it from the lower parking lot all the way up, tore some of the guard rail up with the thumb attachment, then tried to walk it off the cliff. Thankfully, they couldn't figure out how to lock the machine in motion without someone in it.

To keep from hanging up on rock faces, hook the vehicle in the middle. I know it sounds counter-intuitive but it works. And you should really REALLY operate your rig from the side away from the direction of tip. You don't want to be between the truck & the "over the side" point. Yeah. I lived in Centralia, WA for many years an worked for AAA Star Repossession and Recovery. They taught me a good sum in my younger years. Having four lines down hill, 1 as a primary, 2 for a secondary (for the object you are recovering) and 3 for safety ( for you), and a secondary safety for you as well.. This way you dont lose your load an you dont lose yourself. Lead by example is my motto.. I would start lookin at that for future reference, my 12 year son wants to be a tow truck driver and apart of a recovery unit because of y'all. Hence the reasoning for my comment here today.

Just a suggestion for any further clean up at that site or even for other recovery work. Build a heavy sledge with several anchor points for rigging and some hardened skids on the bottom to slide over rocks. Put an angle front and back on it so it will slide up and over large rocks. You could load it with equipment and slide it down the mountain then load the sledge with garbage and winch it back to the top.

Thank you guys so much! I know the spot you're cleaning up, and the junk needs to go. I've seen many similar crashed vehicles in my 60+ years of wandering our mountains, in nearly every canyon along the front. Used motor oil, batteries, tires, etc. need to be removed as all of the water from these mountains gets used multiple times, from agriculture to potable municipal water supplies via groundwater replenishment. Obviously, there's got to be a bunch of lead and brass there too, but only so much one can do. Great video and example!

Heavy D you and your crew are AWESOME!! It is amazing what you guys do. A couple tips if you are open to them. Get some wooden jack plates for under those screw jacks. Turn the crane to the opposite you are jacking, try to lift something heavy where the truck tilts, screw down the jacks, put the weight back down. That will give you a bit more stability. Since i am seeing this so late, you will be able to use your blackhawk to airlift them out!!! Also on that, IF you wanted to, get a thick tarp material and make it into a pool, for lack of better words, then garbage could be loaded into it and you could lift it out with your helicopter. Maybe with that community volunteers would go load it and then when its full it could be lifted out and brought back empty. Some of these ideas could even be floated to the local authorities and maybe they would pay you for your time efforts and fuel costs. REGARDLESS you and your crew are true CLASS ACTS!!!!!

That was intense guys! Highly organized, skilled, precise, and talk about teamwork. Amazing and Very very impressive! You guys made it look so easy. Very cool to watch. Thanks and I think it's a good idea that you ordered such huge stuff cuz it looks like eventually you'll need it anyway because you guys are off the chain! Loved it

lol "skilled" maybe it looks to the amateur like that, but if u do these jobs for a living this was awful to watch. from the rusty old-a** equpipment (like they have to put their supports out MANUALLY lol, plus they look like chopsticks) to the way they work. just an example 35:17 is a nice thing to get urself killed u NEVER stand between solid metal things in the "line of force" (dont know the proper english word but if u watch the scene u get what I mean)

I like the quickie with the crane, I saw one tip over on the end of the peir in Panama. Tried getting a load from a ship across from the cruiser I was on. Knew he was going over, had to call in a barge crane to get it back on it's wheels. Ah it was beautiful down there, on our way to Managua, Nicaragua, something to do with Noriega. Never made it, had a main steam leak when we were bottom blowing the boiler. Had to stay there for a month for repairs. Bummer for us, not the rest of the ship. We only got 2 days liberty, gotta stick with the boiler during repair. Hole snipes job, fun never ends, till ya gotta do steam and water sides. Have great tales about them job's, not enough space to tell of em. Maybe later, if you call for help from a guy that knows what a 24 and a carry on means.😮

Hey guys, love to see you cleaning up the outdoors.
I was thinking for the things like TVs and little junk you cant pull out nor carry out, you could make something like a big sled... Maybe a pickup truck bed but underneath it has large rails that slide over the terrain easily. That way you could lower it down, fill'r up, and drag it all out together.

That was quite the recovery mission. I have a new respect for the work y'all do, as my own car had to be recovered from a creek this weekend just been.
    Don't drink and drive, kids.
I've got a broken car and 6 months with no license to remember that lesson.

I liked your comment toward the end of the video where you said you didn't think you would want to have your kids hike through all that junk. You got good thoughts and a good heart May Lord bless you and keep you. Larry

That’s pretty crazy. I used to ride dirt bikes up that hill as a kid wondering how bad it would’ve been being in those cars. Seeing the few piled up I specifically remember the red one always being there. Crazy stuff, times change. good job

We have the same problem. Seeing trash people throw their trash wherever they want to. Spent a lot of time cleaning up trash from a hunting property years ago. I do not litter, recycle everything I can even when it costs me time and money to take it in and never leave my trash or garbage behind after a job or trip. Kudos to you and your team
