The beginning of the video seems to imply you want to do this for Triple Deluxe, Robobot, and Star Allies. Even though combing through those games seems like a herculean task, I'd be super interested in seeing that happen!
you mentioned the super saiyan design of goriath, and i think its also worth mentioning that his big energy ball attack (which might be EX exclusive?? I cant remember) is possibly a reference to goku's spirit bomb. i always thought so at least!
Kirby Wiki admin here. This video is awesome! I knew a lot of these going in, but you surprised me with how thorough you were! There are even more references and nods than I thought. You did a fantastic job putting this video together! And thanks for crediting Kirby Wiki; most people don't do that even when they lift trivia I wrote word-for-word. Allow to share a couple things you missed: -Whip Kirby's hat and whip combo appear to be inspired by Indiana Jones. -It appears the Pop Flower colors you mentioned are the reason Red Kirby was dropped, since he would turn flowers red like King Dedede. -The Kirby GCN Water helper seen at 46:17 appear to be an early design for Pluid, a Water enemy in Return to Dream Land. -Beyond just the flying yellow hair, Goriath charges his own Kamehameha waves and Spirit Bombs! -The Ancients created the Star Rod as well. You combined both of Magolor's descriptions to describe Galactic Nova, but the second seems to refer to the Star Rod specifically--hence the "bring dreams to life" bit. -Magolor's battle theme, "Under My Control," contains a motif from the Dimensional Rift theme. -Magolor Soul's theme, "C-R-O-W-N-E-D," contains motifs from the Lor Starcutter's interior theme and the Crystal Area theme from Kirby Super Star (Ultra). -Magolor has hair under his hat! He mentions this if you annoy him enough in Extra Mode, saying that he "really need[s] a haircut." Bravo on a job well done! NBK
So I remembered in the anime, Episode 72, Waddle While You Work, Waddle Dee grabbed a broom and spun it to ascend the air. This might have been the inspiration for Spearicopter, one of Spear and Bandana Dee's moves. Link to the episode: ua-cam.com/video/7rMNhl2_0xM/v-deo.html And the scene is at 3:24
I'm surprised I havent seen anyone mention Fighter Kirby at all, one of my favorite little easter eggs with Fighter Kirby is that instead of using normal inputs for his moves, you can use the classic Street Fighter inputs like quarter circle forward + punch to get a fireball! Also worth mentioning is how Fighter Kirby might just be a reference to Ryu from SF in general with his classic Shoto moveset, and the red headband Kirby wears being similar to Ryu's. @@amazingamber4706 well perhaps it's the existence of flare beam the reason why "ultra spark" got removed. That would have been 2 electric based ultra abilities. And the attack that magolor does referencing beam could also be a nod to this "ultra spark"
19:00 For more clarity, Son Goku was based on Sun Wukong, a monkey deity from Jourbey to the West, and the Saiyajins as a whole have monkey tails and can turn into giant monkeys. Goriath also literally shoots ki blasts out of his hands, and does an attack that is pretty much the Kamehameha. 1:07:36 I love that remix. I didn't know that was a remix until early last year when I was trying to look up the song(since at the time I hadn't played Dreamland 3). That and I love moving the characters in sync with this song. Also, the original Iceberg Map theme is a good song to tap dance to.
Wow, awesome job on this video!!! It reminded me how much I love this game and how it continues to be my favorite of all time in the franchise. Much love ❤️
The way he snacks his chest is a Japanese gesture to show your willingness to help and your reliability. You see it come up a lot in Japanese media, often followed by the character exclaiming something along the lines of "You can count on me."
1:03:12 I’ve always associated this theme with chef Kawasaki (because it played when fighting his robot counterpart) and the fact that the first time the full theme was used was for an episode about Kawasaki just feels so satisfying.
Unexpected and early Christmas Gift. I'm always super fascinated to find out more about games I enjoy. While I knew some things I didn't realize how much there was still to be explored and all the fantastic references that this game has to offer. I feel like it's only scratching the surface too, and that's saying something! Fantastic work on this video, I can really tell it was a labor of love to get this all said and done. these were the best 1 hour, 24 minutes and 30 seconds of my life, this was such a nice video!! very good editing pace and you have a nice narrating voice!! your enthusiasm made me smile :] im looking forward to more of your content!!
This is an amazing video. Very informative. There were a lot of stuff I didn't even think about until I watched the video. While watching, I couldn't help but feel the urge to point out things, and I ended up with a list of them. Here's the list. Correction on the HAL Room trivia. There's an accessable HAL Room hidden in stage 3 of Kirby: Canvas Curse's Block Attack subgame. When talking about Hearbell, you could've brought up PacFlower, the Pacto variant that would eventually show up in Kirby: Triple Deluxe. It looks very similar to Hearbell in design. This is more about Kirby's Return to Dream Land, and references to games made before it though, and the end of the video leaves open the possibility of videos for the other Kumazaki-era titles, so I can see why it wasn't included. Goriath also references Donkey Kong's ground pound and clinging, as well as Luffy's stretchy punch (though the charging animation is possibly a reference to Donkey Kong's Giant Punch in Super Smash Bros. 64). To add to the Stake puzzle trivia, Kirby: Squeak Squad also has a similar Bomb Block setup to the one that Kirby & the Amazing Mirror had. In Nature Notch's first level particularly. To add to the Mid-boss Tower trivia, Kirby: Squeak Squad also had a Mid-boss volcano level that uses the same pattern with using the Midbosses' powers to obtain the Treasure Chests. As far as beta elements go, I'd like to mention that Armor Dees still use the red Waddle Dee textures for the Waddle Dees in control of it, even though the final design for Puppet Dee updated the Waddle Dees in control of it to be yellow orange. Armor Dees still use a red color of metal around it's armor, the shade of which matches the Waddle Dees underneath it, so it's possible that Armor Dee was never updated to fit the yellow-orange color change that Waddle Dees and Puppet Dees went through, which would honestly be pretty strange. Also, the old beta footage shows an unused animation for Water Kirby's dash attack, where it looks more like he's surfing. The old beta footage for the dimensional rift also shows some unused foe inside the rift wall. The dimension Magolor's black hole sends Kirby to looks very similar to the background of Marx Soul's battle stage from Kirby Super Star Ultra. It's even using similar shades of blue and red violet. The hexagons in Galacta Knight's battle stage are also similar to the large ones engraved in the grounds of his original battle stage, as well as the ones featured in Marx Soul's battle stage.
Just wanted to say that I really enjoyed this video. It's full of info that isn't complex, while also having the length to showcase most of the depth that this game offers. That blend makes for a good video that I was interested in for the whole hour plus, in contrast to other long videos where I segment my viewing time. Good vid 👍
18:52 Don't forget that one of his attacks is a long punch, which might be a reference to Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat. Great video, can't wait for you to talk about the 3DS Kirby games!
You forgot to mention that the very first HAL Room can be found in the game Sansū 4-nen: Keisan Game, developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Tokyo Shoseki on October 30, 1986. The Room existed at Stage 22, with the bricks lined up as the letters.
18:30: "Aww... they're so cute... *TIME FOR MURDER!!"* But to be honest, I think _all_ of us did things like that in this game... too easy to bully weak enemies. That aside, this Easter Egg hunt is such a nostalgia trip for me. This Kirby game was one of my first major console outings with the pink puffball, and I remember being so excited for its released a decade ago... returning to the game years later, after playing through more of Kirby's adventures, it was fun seeing all the callbacks, in addition to ones you pointed out that I missed.
god i love using this video to fall asleep. I don’t mean that in a rude way at all, it’s just a really good video for me to put on and nod off to, it’s really comforting. I must’ve watched it atleast 20 times by now surely..
In Dangerous Dinner Stage 2, the lizard might also be some sort of a reference to Chameleon Arm, which can be found on the lava planet in Milky Way Wishes.
I've always found it really cool that the Sky Tower in the last level of Nutty Noon goes so high, it reaches into space, where a large, open rift into Another Dimension is located.
30:57 the blue health bar that just says "boss" could be a reference to kirby: super star ultra's similar boss health bar, with a blue health bar just saying "boss" being used for every boss fight in the game!
this video is 2 years old but its so nice!! you sound like youre smiling and having fun the whole time and i watched all the way through :-) i love kirby and i love this video too!!!
28:18 Or maybe the first use cutscene would also randomly decide what sword would be used. 12:14 The parasol is red and white in the puzzle though, and not orange and white like it is in Return to Dreamland.
So hyped for the switch port ive loved this game forever its ny favourite kirby game i have so much memories, the OST hits different thank u for making this video ❤️
As an editor, I'm curious; how long did it take you to script and edit this together? To find all of these and find the footage and splice them together. From the visual audio displays (which I assume were created in After Effects), to the well scripted progression from the first world to the last, I'm just curious how many hours were sunk into this behemoth of a project. I can tell you went everywhere to find everything, even from old Miiverse posts, to japanese manuals and I couldn't imagine how much that would have taken. I really, really, really admire this hard work! Sorry for blabbing, I was just curious!
One extra little “secret” I’ve noticed while playing the game over the years is that there’s one goal dance pose that is very rarely seen. I *think* it’s also only able to be seen in extra mode. I don’t really know how to describe it tho.
2:33 Kirby is only being chased by King Dedede-and yes, it’s because the greedy self-proclaimed ruler of Dream Land wants Kirby’s shortcake 🍰. Bandana Dee is chasing King Dedede to protect his best pal, Kirby-and Kirby’s shortcake 🍰. FYI BTW-please like this post if, like me, you’re a Kirby fan! And/or if you love strawberry shortcake 🍰!
Actually Meta Knight's shuttle loop attack is supposedly base off of the attack he does during Meta Knight's Revenge his battle (and maybe the escape) when he soars across the screen, he even does a little backflip before going into a dive. While Landia is more red than orange, but the connections isn't wrong.
I'll admit it, this video was what made me love kirby. Before watching it I had played a couple games and liked them but not fully geeked out on them. This made me want to try more games out. So I did. Glad I did

-Magolor Soul's theme, "C-R-O-W-N-E-D," contains motifs from the Lor Starcutter's interior theme and the Crystal Area theme from Kirby Super Star (Ultra).

realizing at the end of this video that you are the same person who made that incredible kirby 20th anniversary time lapse that i used to be obsessed with and watch over and over again when i was a younger kaizo was surprising but Rad!
after all these years ive finally subscribed, and i will definitely be watching the other time lapses
epic vid!
Awesome!
I can't wait to see everything that's my favorite Kirby game.
The grape Easter egg is pure W O T content.
What do you mean by "WOT?"
^
Continue to keep up the great work!
If you ever do Star Allies, let me know. I already have some research done for that game that I'd want to share, XD
I'll admit, even as a RTDL veteran myself, I never new about that 30-up technique thing. That was very interesting. Wonderful video!
wow, where do i even start?
i remember seeing you announce the making of this video on twitter, and i was so excited. just that little tidbit of you showing the 64 gesture let me know you were really ready to shine a whole lot of knowledge we didn't know about. this video was an amazing ride to sit through, i didn't click off at any moment. i love this game and the whole series so much, and it makes me happy to witness someone else, that is an especially huge inspiration of mine, express their large amount of love for this game and series too. your editing is awesome as always, making it feel so professional and thorough. i also liked the little jokes, the cutoff of the waddle dee couple about to be crushed caught me so off guard. i went through so many emotions watching this, laughing, gasping, smiling, and...nearly crying? i don't know how much more i could express the amount of appreciation i have for this video, but i really believe this deserves more attention. you put so much heart into this which i just love so much about it. i wouldn't've changed a single thing from how you made this, it's perfect and captures what truly makes kirby games so great. you're awesome dude, and ive been subscribed for you a good while now! mostly following with your speedpaints, i have yet to jump into more of your gameplay vids! i really love the little backgrounds you make for them.
ok!! that's all i have to say, you absolutely rock! 👊💖
This is why I adore the kirby games with all my heart. There is so much SOUL and love into them, it's incredible! The little details matter a whole lot.
these were the best 1 hour, 24 minutes and 30 seconds of my life, this was such a nice video!!
very good editing pace and you have a nice narrating voice!! your enthusiasm made me smile :]
im looking forward to more of your content!!
Great video i really enjoyed
Good vid 👍
I just love the way you combine the 2 sort of Kirby sitting down, stretching and looks around in the street pass mii plaza puzzle. Looks cute! 😚😚😚
I really like the tone and demeanor of your voice in this video, gives off a pretty good, wholesome vibe that fits well with the Kirby series.
18:52 Don't forget that one of his attacks is a long punch, which might be a reference to Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat.
Great video, can't wait for you to talk about the 3DS Kirby games!
Your voice always makes this video calming and enjoyable. 😊
*TIME FOR MURDER!!"*
But to be honest, I think _all_ of us did things like that in this game... too easy to bully weak enemies.
When u started the game I was overfilled with nostalgia since i also played Kirby's Reurn To Dreamland. :D
god i love using this video to fall asleep.
I don’t mean that in a rude way at all, it’s just a really good video for me to put on and nod off to, it’s really comforting.
I must’ve watched it atleast 20 times by now surely..
1:19:54 I thought this sounded like a reversed or somehow inverted version of the 1up jingle, which would also be pretty fitting
20:35 don't forget in kirby's adventure there's a sub area where you need to smash the stakes 1 then 3 then 2 to get a 1up
The level of nerdness is uncomparable, I love it!
Thanks for making this video:) I love Kirby and Return to Dreamland, viewing this video made me really happy
28:18
Or maybe the first use cutscene would also randomly decide what sword would be used.
12:14 The parasol is red and white in the puzzle though, and not orange and white like it is in Return to Dreamland.
So hyped for the switch port ive loved this game forever its ny favourite kirby game i have so much memories, the OST hits different thank u for making this video ❤️
Also in the Return to Dreamland there is so many soundfont references from older kirby games, like Kirby 64 and Dream Land 3 games
dude i love ur narration! its so happy and energetic, it fits the game! this video made me so happy
Kirby's references to itself and overarching story never fail to make me tear up
This video brings me immense joy
As an editor, I'm curious; how long did it take you to script and edit this together? To find all of these and find the footage and splice them together. From the visual audio displays (which I assume were created in After Effects), to the well scripted progression from the first world to the last, I'm just curious how many hours were sunk into this behemoth of a project. I can tell you went everywhere to find everything, even from old Miiverse posts, to japanese manuals and I couldn't imagine how much that would have taken. I really, really, really admire this hard work! Sorry for blabbing, I was just curious!
I will never get enough of coming back and watching this.
@Milo Makes me saaaad
I think I love this game when I first got it, and I love it even more when you mentioned the references.
One extra little “secret” I’ve noticed while playing the game over the years is that there’s one goal dance pose that is very rarely seen. I *think* it’s also only able to be seen in extra mode. I don’t really know how to describe it tho.
2:33
Kirby is only being chased by King Dedede-and yes, it’s because the greedy self-proclaimed ruler of Dream Land wants Kirby’s shortcake 🍰.
Bandana Dee is chasing King Dedede to protect his best pal, Kirby-and Kirby’s shortcake 🍰.
FYI BTW-please like this post if, like me, you’re a Kirby fan!
And/or if you love strawberry shortcake 🍰!
My favorite arrangement of “The Greatest Warrior in the Galaxy” (Galacta Knight’s Theme) is from Planet Robobot
Great video! I'd LOVE a series about the other modern ganes!
3:59 subtle foreshadowing
18:37
Perfectly cut.
this is one of my favorite videos ever now dude, geeat job on it!
11:57- Kirby is mad.
I just want to say thank you for making this video, return to dreamland is my favourite game too and this entire video was a lovely experience :D
I love it when anyone over analyzes and over admires a game, especially a Kirby game!
I'll admit it, this video was what made me love kirby. Before watching it I had played a couple games and liked them but not fully geeked out on them. This made me want to try more games out. So I did. Glad I did
18:42 *YOU FIEND*
I’ve never actually played a Kirby game and only ever seen one video on a Kirby game but I really enjoyed this video and it has gotten me interested in playing Kirby games
Wonder how you feel abt the remake.
Thank you so much for this wonderful video!!!!! I had a Fantastic time!
I love how Torkirby says “Dangerous Dinner” like some cartoon character.
Back to the point, This is extremely helpful for my friends with facts of this game.
You're Literally goated. I'd love to see you do this again with other kirby games.
This was such an awesome video! Even as a diehard fan of Cutting Room Floor and Kirby Wiki, there was so much stuff I didn't know about on this video! (Especially the ones on the 3ds Mii Plaza animations, that one blew my mind especially)
Awesome stuff! I adored watching this so much
I just realized you’re the artist that did the 20 anniversary mural I watched constantly when I was younger!
Hearing the game open up on the wii Home Screen actually gave me nostalgic chills and I love it
This is my first 1 hour video that i watched entirely! Really Really Really Good Video!!!
