GE Profile Spacemaker beeps randomly, the reminder feature activates by itself, the buttons aren’t working, and you might get the keypad shortage error message on the screen.
So, before you give up and throw it in the trash, try this fix and you might save yourself a few hundred bucks. If it doesn’t work on the first try, do it again a couple times. Mine worked for 1 day, shorted again, I cleaned it again, then it worked for months before shorting again. I clean it once every couple months now for the last year or so. Call me crazy, but I’d rather do that than hassle with removing the whole thing, buying a new one, and figuring out how to install it. Above the range microwaves aren’t the easiest to remove or install, so I’m doing this repair trick for as long as it keeps working.
Update: I tried something new on my last try and it has been working longer before shorting again...put a little vinegar on the paper towel before cleaning the ribbon, I think it may have cleaned it better.
Enjoy!
Thank you so much, I had the same problem and I followed you step by step and it works!! Great job 👏
Glad to hear it and thank you!
Just did this and it works, took longer to take out of kitchen than to clean connection. You do need a torx screwdriver or bit to get the cover off.
You saved me!! This was the FIX I needed!!! 1 Day before Thanksgiving to short of time to get a new microwave. Thank you for sharing!!!!
Glad it could help!
@@savemoneydiy1462 my LG microwave oven displays 0 and there is no response when you press the buttons otherwise whenever i open the doors turns on the light however when you close the door again the fan tries to run and suddenly stops
Brilliant! I had a slighly different KitchenAid model, and this trick worked like a champ! About 10 keys were not working. Just used a paper towel with some alcohol, rubbed the ribbon cable as show, and it's fixed. THANK YOU!
Excellent glad to hear it!
It works great 👍
Hello 4/22/21 I have a Summit OTR24 I use a free standing had to remove entire wraparound cover re seated the ribbon plugged it in and Wow! Boom! Works like new! Great job Babylon NY Eric
Nice! 👍🏼
Thanks! Worked like a charm =)
Great! Glad to hear it!
Thank you for this video, it worked for me!
You’re welcome and glad it worked for you!
I have a Maytag where only a few of the buttons work. I undid the ribbon as you explained, used rubbing alcohol to clean it, refitted it (making sure it went all the way in) - and now all the buttons work!
Glad it worked!
Juat saved me 500 bucks. Subscribed!
Boom! Glad it could help!
Great video. I was thinking to remove the board and clean the plastic for each option and only clean the cable you show and bingo. Everything work. Thanks.
You bet!
Update: I tried something new on my last try and it has been working longer before shorting again...put a little vinegar on the paper towel before cleaning the ribbon, I think it may have cleaned it better. Good luck!

What if the lights that talk time don’t light?
I am having a hard time to put the ribbon back in😣
Didn't work on my GE. It's funny only button one works, and a couple others. All I did was spray the outside of the keypad with Windex, whipped it clean and that was enough to render it almost useless. Just have to defrost on high for one minute increments
Not for me but was hoping i have the same type of microwave. Any other way to get it working
Darn too bad it didn’t work. Did you try with some vinegar on the paper towel when cleaning the ribbon? If it doesn’t work on a second or third try, I’m not sure what else to do sorry 😐 but hope you can figure something out!
It works! 20 minutes!
That’s great!
it works then stop again !!
Did you put vinegar on a paper towel or cloth and then wipe the ribbon with it? (See pinned comment.) Without vinegar, mine would last a few weeks or months then I’d have to do it again. With vinegar, it’s been a year now and is still good.
Vinegar Works!! I Had The Same Problem...Stop'n Soon After Reseat'n The Ribbon...Wipe Your Hands As Well - I Think It's Like Some LIght Bulbs Will Short BCuz Your Hands Have Natural Oils That Damage The Wiring, Etc - Not Sure But Maybe??
Watching them not vacuum that dust out be like 🤔
No sound.
Yep, decided to go "silent" on this one 👍
Only some numbers worked for mines 😩
Oh weird I would have thought either they all work or none do 🤷🏼♂️

Thanks!
I didn't get an opportunity to add "MicroWave" as you requested...
All good. Thank you, very kind of you!
