HAPPY MAY THE FOURTH EVERYONE!
I hope you enjoy part 1 to this project.
We've all worked very hard on it for months, and the idea was to give you all a 80's/90's stylistic version of what could have been...adapted from Dark Empire. Maybe this could have been the sequel trilogy, if Heir to the Empire fell through?
This video is monetized by John Williams and their respective companies for the copyrighted music we used, no ad revenue goes to the channel and that is totally fine. This is a labour of love, and we hope you enjoyed it.
www.theorysabers.com funded this project as well as all other projects in the works.

Thanks so much everyone for the support and we'll see you in the next episode!
May the Fourth Be With You, Always!

It’s funny considering this plot line was so ill received when it was first released and the OT fans didn’t like it for the same reasons as the prequel fans didn’t like this plot line in the sequels era
Perhaps if this story line gets the clone wars style treatment then it would flesh out a lot of character growth and lore growth as well
May the 4th be with you
This is amazing! Great work as always Theory.
Star Wars: The Thrawn Trilogy is a Legends adult-fiction novel series from author Timothy Zahn. It consists of Heir to the Empire (1991), Dark Force Rising (1992), and The Last Command (1993),
Luke: “Somehow…”

“It’s surrounded by thousands of warships” shows five star destroyers 😂
The other destroyers are somewhere else, in other parts of the system to be specific. Probably
The Dark Empire series is so underrated and overlooked these days.
Too bad the writer never got the opportunity to finish the story properly. Empire End was suppose to be six issues not 2.
@@jeremyfields9009 It'd be so cool to read.
They are better then sequel trilogy for sure but it still sucks. Emperor should never return! His death in return of the Jedi was and should be final!
@@krystofthepolishguytalksan310 Idk, I agree and I don't, I mean as Chancellor he had a lot of power, and wealth, hiding the clones of himself and the technology at an off world site, sounds plausible. And the Dark Side does drain life force, and Palpatine was very deformed from his power, him needing clones to be eternal essentially makes the most sense, even though hatred and suffering should keep him from dying Like Scion, but him still being alive technically because he's just another clone is a very good story Arc, the fact we were robbed of a trilogy with Grandmaster Luke finally going 1v1 with the Emperor to finish the Skywalker saga was really where we lost out in.
@@damien2729 I actually like this storyline alot.... the character development is done right and it's balanced.. 'The power of the darkside' needed to be fleshed out aka immortality.. as the Jedi have their 'ghosts' the emperor has 'essence transfer'
Luke realizes this and that's why he kneels.. it's a very deep moment for his growth..
One day StarWarsTheory will buy one of those portable sets used to make Mandolorian and shoot his own films.. using the Unreal Engine.... and the fans will reclaim starwars proper..
Shadows of the empire deserves an adaptation.
It’s funny considering this plot line was so ill received when it was first released, so I kind of find it ironic that we have to remake that story to make it better.
Indeed!
Yes please!!!!
So does the darth bane trilogy !!!!
The channel Star Wars Fan Animation is making one!
This is what Disney ripped off for their own poorly way to bring back Palpatine in TROS.
Which is really funny because Kennedy and all the other echo chamber yes-men said " Star Wars has no source material" and yet here they are grabbing source material 😂
Somehow... Palpatine survived
I would say homage’d badly, not ripped off.
@@UninvitedGhost More like desecrated
That basically WAS the entire sequel trilogy; a bad attempt to be like the Shadow Empire story arc from Legends. While I definitely have my issues with that arc, at least it did a better job explaining how Palpatine returned and made him feel more like a massive threat. In the sequels, he came off nowhere near the manipulative mastermind who's always three steps ahead of everyone.

Palpatines sidestep to the "youre dead" statement was so much better than having him reply with a "ive died before"
This is where the fun begins
I’m ngl, this script feels AI generated, and there were a few times I was very confused about what a character was talking about. Endor wasn’t the first time Palpatine has died? Wtf does that mean? Also, isn’t the planet called Mon Calamari, not just Calamari?

I think people need to understand the concept of a palpatine clone isn’t what Star Wars fans are bothered about, it’s the WAY Disney introduced the palpatine clone
I still have a problem with it, it undermines the importance of what Vader did. Just come up with a new villain

All this anticipation for this?! Seriously?!
Nice! I hope you do the Thrawn Trilogy next... and the Jedi Academy Trilogy... and the Callista Trilogy.... and the Black Fleet Crisis Trilogy... and the Corellian Trilogy... and the Hand of Thrawn Duology... and the New Jedi Order Series... and the Legacy of the Force Series.... and the Fate of the Jedi Series...
Man there was some utter shite in the EU wasn't there?
The Jedi Academy Trilogy where Anderson revisits every single location seen in the original trilogy, Luke has no trouble finding Jedi candidates but is such a lousy teacher that he loses two to the dark side. One student, Kip Durron, is described as being more powerful than Luke and Leia. Luke get's defeated by the spirit of a long dead Sith and is generally portrayed as being pretty pathetic. Meanwhile we get a super weapon even more powerful than the Death Stars, which Durron uses to destroy a solar system killing millions but because he's under the influence of the dark side at the time he suffers no legal repercussions and is simply allowed to continue as a Jedi as if nothing had happened (eventually becoming a Master on the Jedi Council who even leads a rebellion against Luke's leadership).
Then we have Callista who transferred her essence into a computer for crying out loud and then back into another Jedi's body but was no longer able to feel the Force. Oh and another Jedi had been transferred into a droid body. Even though it was written before the prequels and the introduction of midi-chlorians these were very stupid ideas.
Legacy of the Force was a pathetic retread of Vader's fall with Jacen becoming more and more of a 2 dimensional "evil villain" with each instalment, none of which were coherent because the 3 authors seemed to be writing different stories with only Allston making much of an attempt to hold them together.
Denning, hands down the worst writer of the EU with an obsession for creating ever more over-the-top "Force powers", dredged up Lumiya from a storyline that was never even part of the novels (only the comics). She pretty much only turns up in the books he wrote as does his own Alema Rar character. He retconned Vergere and made her a Sith (despite the fact that she appeared to Jacen as a "Force ghost" after her death and other EU works being clear that Sith cannot do this.) He also completely changed the concept of "Shatterpoint" from being able to sense key moments upon which future events hinge to being able to touch an object such as Beskar armour and cause it to shatter. Luke teaches this to Jaina and she trains with Boba Fett to give her skills so she can take on and defeat her brother... but she never uses any of them! Oh and we're given an ancient telepathic Sith training ship that is in many ways vastly superior to any modern vehicles.
Meanwhile Traviss clearly wanted to indulge her obsession and write a tedious Boba Fett/Mandalorian story which she shoehorned into the Legacy of the Force series. Fett and her characters are barely featured by the other writers until the finale. Her contributions were slow and boring with a focus on Mandalorian culture and even her own made-up Mando'a language as if she believed she is the heir to Tolkien.
None of it worked together. The worst part was Luke refusing to take out Jacen himself because it would mean he'd turn to the dark side! What crap. Instead he let's his nephew murder millions and destroy whole swathes of Kashyyyk.
As for Fate of the Jedi we're given multiple Sith, including a "lost tribe" that has been isolated on a planet with no metal and therefore no modern technology for 5 millennia (although conveniently lightsabers are still plentiful and have an inexhaustible power supply). Despite this they have absolutely no problem operating spacecraft or any other technology that should be way beyond their comprehension.
We have a former Imperial Admiral as head of the "Galactic Alliance" despite the fact that she was guilty of major war crimes. Despite his history of past heroics, Luke is banished and the public simply accept this. He and his son go travelling around uncovering ever more ridiculous "Force powers", most of which never come into play again. This includes leaving their bodies and astral projecting into some bizarre netherworld where they can speak to the dead who reside under the surface of a lake. (No surprise that Denning wrote that claptrap.)
Meanwhile we have Jedi Masters who, in Luke's absence, are constantly angry and yelling at each other over disagreements. Apparently the way to decide who gets to lead the council is to have a lightsaber duel! Oh and young Jedi run away because they're afraid.
And don't even get me started on "all powerful" Abeloth!
Yes please
Ehh not the Callista Trilogy or Black Fleet crises, but everything else hell yeah!!
@@jjc5407 I enjoyed the Jedi Academy Trilogy. It was one of the first, earliest, novels back when they began. Kevin Anderson tends to write a bit down for teens; it is his nature. But they were ok back then.

I hated the Dark empire series when it was new.. a large amount of OG fans hate it too. Of all stories to adapt, you chose this?
Theory has terrible taste in EU, you have to admit. He liked all the sequels on first watch until public opinion on them changed.
@@Hello-bi1pm Thrawn trilogy, shadows of the empire, Jedi academy series. Any of these would have been better. But no, the most divisive series of the EU.
Agreed, da fuck was this??
I just realized something rereading Dark Empire again, and I don't think Darth Sidious ever gave Luke a Sith name when Luke joined him for a time in the dark side.
The in-universe explanation would probably be that Luke didn't really turn at first, he wanted to destroy Palpatine and the dark side from within and Sidious obviously knew that. He did manage to break Luke complately later on, so from that point onwards it's up to interpretation. Imo after the experience with Vader he'd want to make sure that Leia and the New Republic are dead and gone first, in order to properly grant Luke his Sith title, knowing he's former self will never resurface. Alternatively you could argue Luke was never meant to become a Sith and Palpatine was just waiting for the right moment to posess him as a vessel OR he knew his final death was inevitable anyway and turning Luke was just a means to prevent the Jedi Order from returning.
Or you could just remember that the Sith were not defined at the time Dark Empire was written i.e. before the Prequels. Tim Zahn originally intended for the Noghri to be the Sith hence their allegiance to Vader "The Dark Lord of the Sith". Vader's helmet was even supposed to be a stylised version of their faces. George nixed that idea for obvious reasons.
At that time, as far as anyone knew, Darth was simply Vader's first name and it's also why he is often referred to as a Dark Jedi in stories of that era. After the Prequels were released this was one of many elements that were retconned, with Dark Jedi becoming separate to Sith. It's also why characters like Exar Kun never had a "Darth" title, which was again retconned.
@@jjc5407 Yes, but why does it matter in-univere? And it's the in universe explanation that people usually expect. Both Dark Empire and the prequels exist in the same timeline in Legends, that's a fact regardless of what came first.
@@emzonik8851 to come up with an "in-universe" you'd have to retcon why Luke didn't get a Darth moniker in Dark Empire and I'm not aware anybody bothered to do so. It's certainly not mentioned in any of the novels or other books.

This is KICK ASS and I LOVE DARK EMPIRE SO MUCH😭 FOR GEORGE LUCAS AND LEGENDS🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
I don't even acknowledge it as Legends. To me it's just cannon. The REAL Star Wars.
I know but it still Legends from the original Star Wars, Not Disney because they screw up the movies too.
The bad grammar starts getting under my skin after a while.
Luke wouldn't join him. He seen first hand what the Empire has done. One can learn the dark side without being the darkside. Its all how you use it, and not let it consume you.
I feel the whole using the darkside and being in control goes against everything the movies and Lucas has told us
This somehow felt more cannon than what Disney did.

Excellent job with your voice over skills too! Nearly identical to the emperor! Good job!
While I found it to be a remarkable nostalgia trip that felt like real star wars... I dont agree with the Emperor coming back or to Luke kneeling to him. But great work!
An adaptation of Splinter of the Mind's Eye would be interesting in this style, Great Work!
A fan fiction using a great story with stills and some short animations surpassing all Disney could ever hope to make!!!!!!
I love the inclusion of music from Fallen Order
Not trying to be critical but did the video change in the last 18 hours? I just want to be sure I saw the same thing everyone else did that is saying this was amazing. I just saw still images with music and voiceover. From the description of being high budget and taking months I didn’t feel like what I saw aligned with the comments/description.
This. I usually like Theory's stuff but this just didn't do it for me.
And sadly I felt that his portrayal of Palpatine was a bit cringey with the accent going way too far in places.
Last but not least, I felt the art style, or rather the portrayal of the characters, felt a bit amateurish at times...if a good artist was hired to illustrate this perhaps it would be better.
@@MishKonnit's the dialogue for me... I mean "activate dark force cage"?? 😂 a lot of cliche and "generic villain" monologue, feel like a bit more effort could've gone into that. That being said the still image / stop motion style actually grew on me over the video.
@@Graystripe02 yeah I didn't even go there because it's a fan film. But since you started: It's a bit ironic for me that this is building on / developing the biggest shit show improv idiocy that is the sequels. Having him ressurected was one of the most uninspired, desperately creatively void and burnt out things to do already in the movie IMO, and I feel the idea should have just been buried, not expanded upon. And don't even get me started on Luke bowing to him. How somebody can criticise what Ryan Johnson did to our beloved character while having them do this is beyond me.
The style of a narrated comics was okay with me, I just hated most of the art and strange action figure poses. The vehicle design also felt quite poor, at times it felt almost AI generated. I felt that a good illustrator would go much further much more consistently.
@@Graystripe02 the “Activate dark force cage” line was almost as bad as the young Leia chase scene in Kenobi 😂.
@@MishKonn I agree, I typically like him as well but definitely feel it lacked a refined aspect. It felt very much like a storyboard concept you’d get feedback on before making the real thing.
What was high budget? You don’t pay yourself for voice acting, you used John Williams’s music, and still photo renderings of existing character likenesses. I know the idea of budget is different for everyone but for someone with Theories resources this felt like it could have been done in a few days with a few hundred bucks, ChatGPT, and Midjourney.
High budget would mean special effects, actual animation or live actors and costuming/makeup. Something akin to his Vader episode 1.

Excellent. You have done well, My Young Filmmaker.
The only problem I would have is, I can't see Luke EVER giving in to the Dark Side. There were other times he was tempted, other times where he seemingly had no other choice. With Vader at Cloud City. In the very same Emperor's throne room. In the face of seemingly hopeless odds, when he very nearly did fall, he resisted in the end. The situation here is much like it was in the Emperor's throne room. And he KNOWS already that Pruneface is going to try again. Now that he's much more experienced, why would Palpy's same old tricks work on him now?
Luke has faced this before and prevailed in the end. He has never fallen (the "Sequels" don't count. To me they're not canon and do not exist). I do not expect he wouldn't find some solution now.
