I rate Chris de Burgh just as highly as Lennon/McCartney, Benny and Bjorn, The Bee Gees, Simon & Garfunkel, John Denver, Gerry Rafferty etc...when it comes to his song-writing prowess. He was a twentieth century "minstrel" re-incarnated.....and could take a listener to many places in time and space with both his words and music. Love the guy!!
On that 1986-87 tour he had the excellent and criminally overlooked How We Live opening for him, whose singer Steve Hogarth went on to join Marillion two years later.
This is a really good pop ballad. Cheers!✌️🇨🇦
He's a true storytelling songwriter. He didn't always adhere to telling a story within each song but a lot of his work has him crafting a tale within the structure of the song. I wish there were more storyteller songwriters. Kenny Loggins, Cat Stevens and Roger Hodgson come to mind as songwriters with a similar technique. Chris de Burgh's catalog is worth a deep listen without question.
I love that song
Artista fantástico!!!! 👏👏🇧🇷 parabéns!!!! Sou Brasileiro e te respeito demais!!! ❤🙏
Loved his earlier albums .. Spanish Train and the Getaway are brilliant .. didn’t like Lady in Red so much .. went to a concert a couple of years back in Birmingham .. sat in the front 5 rows centrally, we were late .. he waiting for us to be seated before he continued .. 2 blokes walking in together (band mates who have loved his songwriting) surrounded by lots of middle aged women in red dresses .. Great gig though !
I read that the video was shot in a "castle" owned by YES' Jon Anderson.
Chris DeBurgh...so great. I do a stripped version of Lady in Red solo. Such a killer songwriter.... Played Into the Light non-stop one summer...
No waaaay maaaan, ‘Don’t Pay The Ferryman’ Rules!
That would be unfortunate if people 'only' knew 'lady in red'. Its a great love song, no doubt about it, but this guy had already run the musical gamut by that point. The Getaway was huge, but every time I hear "Don't Pay the Ferryman" I always think what a shitty ferryman it is that doesn't collect his money UNTIL he gets them to the other side. VROOOM..... .'damn, there goes another one, I"m never going to make a living". Dude, ALWAYS collect the money before they get on the boat!
