@Angel Johnson I could see the similarity between the 2 - soft voices, similar productions/beats per albums released at the top of new millennium, and snagging of movie roles as their respective careers progressed. But I do feel Aaliyah was going far as she was entering production for about 4-5 films before her passing, and was about to branch outside of the R&B genre and experiment with other musicians like Nine Inch Nails and Linkin Park at the height of their early '00s popularity which would given her more branding and further mainstream appeal. I think by then she probably would split from Blackground as she grew due to all the legalities and hindering they were doing with her releases during and after her lifetime, but I do worry if she had done that she'd probably be caught in another label trouble just given that that pattern happened so often with so many R&B girls during her era. But who knows? Honestly, no one is on Babygirl's level, but Ashanti definitely reminded me of her in some ways with the futuristic beats on her debut and of course the movie roles she was grabbing during her later years. But no one could be nor replace her. Just my opinion.

When I hit 22, it dawned on me just how YOUNG Aaliyah was when she passed away and just how MUCH she achieved in her career up to that point. That should be respected!!. She had so much MORE to give but i’ll always cherish what she left us with while she was on earth. I’ll always speak of her, pay homage and represent her for life. AALIYAH FOREVER 🙏🏽🙌🏽
It’s interesting. I have similar thoughts regarding Tupac because I have surpassed them both in age at this point (I’m 28 now) so when I hear them speak and watch them, I see them differently in a way because I remember when I was their age(s) when they left this earth - so young, and now that I’m older than those ages, I see the youthfulness in abundance for both Aaliyah and Tupac. Mind blowing when you sit back and think about it 💐

The best role model ever for us growing up in the late 90s early 2000s. She will be missed forever. Rest in paradise baby girl.
I remember I was at Myrtle Beach in South Carolina really enjoying the heck out of myself at the beach when the news broke that Aaliyah had died in a terrible plane crash, I was devastated, my whole rest of my beach trip weekend just wasn't the same. I miss her still up to this very day.
