Yup...they're Killin it because THIS, is REAL music kids....this generation missed it. This has EVERYTHING MUSIC TRULY IS. TALENT! Which rap, or whatever this generation listens to will never have. Period. That was such a great time for super groups and stadium concerts, but they we're starting to fizzle out..
It doesn't get any better than Tommy Shaw, he's 68 now and sounds better than ever. Styx has been on tour since June and when he sings Sound the Alarm off the new album Crash of the Crown it will bring tears to your eyes. Tommy is freaking amazing!!
Damn Yankees were one of the biggest rock super groups. Tommy Shaw from Styx on Lead vocals and Rhythm Guitar. Jack Blades from Night Ranger on Bass and backing vocals. Ted Nugent on lead guitar, and Michael Cartellone on drums has worked with John Fogerty and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Tommy was great in Styx, but he was definitely tamed too much. Luckily for us, he was able to let loose in Damn Yankees and unleash his true powerful rock voice (figuratively & Literally!) There's a video of Damn Yankees on youtube somewhere of a song called Mystified, I think Tommy goes to town on that one, Great song!

I kept thinking “who does she remind me of”… she looked so familiar (and I didn’t know her name… only Kitten Lady). Well, she is Tommy Shaws Daughter and looks EXACTLY like him. No mistaking who her Daddy is. His voice is just perfect… stay well!

Damn Yankees definitely one of the best straight ahead rock ‘n’ roll bands in the early 90s. Check out “don’t tread on me.” That’s a killer tune! I’m just sad that we only got two albums from these guys. They definitely kicked ass!

Ted transitioned seamlessly from the Gibson Birdland in the Cat Scratch Fever days to the solid body whammy dives in this one which continues to build and build till Ted tears into the solo and it's hard to stay seated at that point, finishing with Tommy taking you back down gracefully till you finally are left with a Holy Crap! Great band. I got to see them once, at Ted Nugents whip lash bash concert in 1989. They came on right after XYZ opened the show. Ted played a full set with them, and then did a full set of his own band. Ted is probably the most underrated guitar player ever, cause let me tell you, that guy can play a guitar....
Saw them on the inaugural tour in 90. They co-headlined with Bad Company but for the show I saw, they went first. And tore it up. They tore it up so much that two songs into Bad Company, half the crowd was heading for the exits trying to keep that concert buzz. Ted was phenomenal, so I recommend "Piledriver". Thanks!
I saw Damn Yankees twice, once after each album, and of the 60 or 70 different bands I've seen over the years, they're still top 5, probably top 3 for just how good they sound live. Others like KISS put on bigger "shows." But for pure sound, Damn Yankees was VERY hard to beat. You mentioned your prior reaction to Styx's "Renegade." For most of their shows, for the encore, Damn Yankees did "Renegade," Ted's "Catch Scratch Fever," and Night Ranger's "You Can Still Rock in America." In fact, this video was taken from their 1992 Uprising concert in Denver, Colorado. I think the entire show may be on UA-cam still. You should checkout the encore. It's awesome. Just checking out their take on "Renegade" is worth your time. Rumor had it that Tommy Shaw always wanted to be a bit more of a hard rocker, but landed in a pop band instead. Damn Yankees was his chance to step it up a notch.

Damn Yankees- the best 4- years Ever, (check out their live version of Renegade (they threw in a few from each of their other bands) But their own writing and performing, wa like no other. Drummer Michael Cartellone has been with Skynard for decades, Tommy and Jack put out a couple of records Shaw/Blades, their harmonic talent together is forever matchless. Now they both are back with Styx and Night Ranger. Ted pops in here and there and has jammed with both live, Tommy and Jack once in a while show up on stage to sing the signature song they wrote together High Enough. Nugent is one of those old school players who ensures he always is in the melody and absolutely kills it. IDK I have seen alot and love Clapton, Page, Vaughn, Hendrix and I will definately put Nugent in that same category.
DUDE you HAVE to listen to Crystal Ball if you want to see Styx rock it out with Timmy Shaw on lead vocals. That song kicks ass. I thought I knew Styx until I heard that song come on the radio. Suite Madame Blue is another epic classic with DeYoung on vocals.

They were set to record a third however.the record company paid them not to. It was the beginning of the garbage hip hop era.

Well he and James made a comeback with her own band basically styx and they did a live version of crystal ball which had either a high school or a college orchestra backing them up and it is badass man if you can find it you will definitely dig it
