Tony Ochs, I was blessed growing up in Michigan in the 80s because there was a lot of great rock coming out of Canada back then and we would hear it all the time. We would go out of state and to my amazement most people had never heard some of the great music from there.
absolutely agree I had every damn LP they released till they got stolen :( They do not get the respect they deserve. Canadians only need 3 to be a great band :p
If Rush was the only rock trio EVER from Canada, that would still be an understatement. Respect to Triumph though. Fun fact... Triumph were often mistaken for Rush in the early 80s in the USA
My biggest problem with rush is just the parts of music that go too happy and disney sounding. Like most of 2112, they get into these awesome music pockets and get all proggy with it and it starts to sound heavy,,, and without fail, Geddy starts playing a major scale, and Alex plays some super corny happy disney riff shit. And all the awesome tension and heavyness melts away as geddy starts singing like a Christmas elf , using super L Ron Hubbard Neal peart sounding lyrics while Lifeson plays a major chord progression…but it’s in 11/8 …so it’s cool.
@@XViTNg Hah, ya I've heard similar complaints lol. Most people that aren't into rush is because of geddy's voice and the fact that they don't really fit into any genre except prog rock. They go from heavy AF to melodical elfish style music all of a sudden lol. That's why I love them though, they can play anything and make it sound amazing.
@music-two-my-ears Thx Dude. Yes amazing cover. I believe it was originally done by King Crimson. Plz correct if wrong. Another Canadian band I have always enjoyed is Trooper. Have a couple of their records. Long Live Rock! 🤟🎸😝🥁

The UK probably topped us all with Cream and Emerson, Lake and Palmer. Not only can Rik Emmet play guitar like a master sings very high & clean...perfect harmonies with Gil (the drummer who also does lead vocals on some of TRIUMPHS songs).. excellent ...as usual...
Rik Emmett of Triumph is one of those "it's just not fair" rockers. It's one thing to write music that good. It's another thing to be that good a guitar player. They did, however he their big break in the US when Sammy had to cancel his appearance at a 5000 seat venue in Texas as the headliner so the promoter asked Triumph to fill in and they did and the rest....as they say...is history.
I had forgotten about this band. That lead singer has a magnificent voice not to mention gorgeous hair. If you are that talented and gorgeous, you can wear a pink jumpsuit and nobody thinks twice about it.
Rik used to wear those 'suits' because they were a lighter material and cooler on stage. He could also wash them in the motel sink, hang it on the shower curtain, and it would be dry by morning, smelling fresh.

My first job as a teenager was at a music store in Toronto called Hudson’s music. Triumph rehearsed there at times and rented stage gear for local shows. For years they played for free at a summer outdoor park. Later in life, I was in finance, I met several members and sat and chatted with them for hours. Of course, about music. They are great humble guys. My favourite Triumph song is The City which is a great clinic in guitar. ua-cam.com/video/MuWcaLfh3v8/v-deo.html
Great Canadian trio, did a lot of well known rock songs in the late 70s and early 80s. Quality guitar work and singing from Rik Emmett. Others have already mentioned their other great tracks.
Triumph is the second greatest power trio from Canada ever. Outside of Rush these guys bring it the most. Check out magic power, fight the good fight, never surrender, spellbound.
TRIUMPH wins vocals, TRIUMPH and RUSH tied on guitar, RUSH wins bass, RUSH wins drums, TRIUMPH and RUSH had different writing styles but both in their own category achieved getting their points across with TRIUMPH being more straight forward and RUSH with a flair for story telling. I prefer the positive message vibe of Triumph.

This band deserved more love here in the states. They were a kick-ass trio!
Ahh, one of my favorite bands ever! Fantastic song! Also check out “Magic Power”, “Fight the Good Fight” and “Follow Your Heart”... funny story Rik Emmett told about his jumpsuits: with the band playing several nights in a row, he was looking for something he could literally wash in the sink and hang dry overnight, and he found three jumpsuits like that - remember, it was 1979 - for cheap. Amazing voice and incredible guitar player!
Chilliwack, Anvil, Gordon Lightfoot, Alana Miles, Sass Jordan, Our Lady of Peace, Colin James, April Wine, Billy Talent, Trooper, Streetheart, Alanis Morrisette, Holly Cole, Sarah McLaughlin...
Criminally under appreciated band, Rik Emmett is a treasure as a vocalist and clean guitarist. Steve Perry was blown away by Rik Emmett’s voice live. Watch Triumph’s performance at the US Festival ‘83 they were the best performers there. A once in a lifetime opportunity and they were dialed in.
A song that really, and I mean REALLY, showcases this band is blinding light show/moon child, hard driving into slow burn, classical interlude, followed by a hard return, and fading out into perfection.
"Kung Fu Suit?" Ha. Looks like they knicked a kimono from Rush's 2112 days. (As if they weren't compared to Rush enough, as it was, fellow Canadians and all...)

After Rik Emmett left Triumph in the early 90's, he released "Absolutely" and went on a club tour of the US. Got to see this man play from about 12 feet away. Was a religious experience.
This is no doubt my FAVORITE song ever since I was 14 and I'm 48 now. I was lucky enough to see Rik Emmett (guitar/vocals) perform with our local orchestra a few years back. Dream.Come.True.
He does have a amazing voice, when you add playing that double neck to it, 12 string on the top, six on the bottom, which is basically two guitars, what he does is not only good it's amazing 😁
Rik Emmet is a college music teacher in Toronto nowadays! He is my friend’s daughter’s teacher... The kids found some old pics of him with big hair and spandex and they were killing themselves.... 😃🤣
Triumph. My first ever live concert. I was 16 in 1980. Stage right next to the speakers . . . couldn’t hear the lawn mower the next day. Blinding Light Show blew the crowd away. Thanks for reacting to one of the greats. 👍

Loved playing this at parties and private weddings when I played drums in band we had..
Another unbelievable three-man group with many hits, Try "MAGIC POWER"!
Triumph had The Best Light Show at the time it was unreal !
Agreed I saw them in 1983 in Long Island and it was the best light show I ever saw to this day
More Canadian bands to check out...Loverboy,Honeymoon Suite,Helix,Lee Aaron and Tragically Hip.
Chilliwack, Trooper, Toronto, Barenaked Ladies, Cheap Trick... The list goes on and on...
Chilliwack, Anvil, Gordon Lightfoot, Alana Miles, Sass Jordan, Our Lady of Peace, Colin James, April Wine, Billy Talent, Trooper, Streetheart, Alanis Morrisette, Holly Cole, Sarah McLaughlin...
Heck with it lets make him honorary Canadian .... send him a double double and a toque !!
Garrick Douglas Saga.
Bob & Doug MacKenzie
They were the first concert I ever went to in 1985 when I was in high school. The opening band was Mountain! Great concert!
Dig a littke deeper you just got a spoonful. The drummer Gil has a pretty fair set of pipes himself
Great Voice amazing drummer who plays a double bass drum just like Niel and Buddy Rich. Singing and drumming ain't easy! Long live Rock! 🎸🥁🎵
I love Gil’s vocals on “ Movin on” from the “ Just a game” LP.
God I love his voice! Triumph is amazing.⭐
Yes one of the most underrated rock bands of all time 🙌 so much talent in that band.
😁 brings me so much joy to see him ROCKING OUT to what I was blasting in high school.
Such a classic... and @Jamal such a class act ! 🤟
Dam this song gives me chills the power of his voice shredding guitars drummer on point love it!!
Yes Triumph, you're gonna love this band🙏🏻🙏🏻
A song that really, and I mean REALLY, showcases this band is blinding light show/moon child, hard driving into slow burn, classical interlude, followed by a hard return, and fading out into perfection.
Uh oh, Jamal is really getting into the good stuff here! One of my favorite songs ever. Thanks Jamal, glad you enjoyed it. Peace.
Triumph was my first stadium concert... set a mighty high bar.
Thank you playing this one. It's a favorite. Love you brother!
"Kung Fu Suit?" Ha. Looks like they knicked a kimono from Rush's 2112 days. (As if they weren't compared to Rush enough, as it was, fellow Canadians and all...)
Joe Maurone The lead singer sounds a lot like Geddy but looks like Sean Penn
Karate gi.
@@sparrowcount1 he sings in a high register but nothing like Geddy, Rik is a far far superior vocalist.
@@garytate3075
TRIUMPH wins vocals, TRIUMPH and RUSH tied on guitar, RUSH wins bass, RUSH wins drums, TRIUMPH and RUSH had different writing styles but both in their own category achieved getting their points across with TRIUMPH being more straight forward and RUSH with a flair for story telling. I prefer the positive message vibe of Triumph.
@@bobbykevinabramsonhennesey1625 I agree totally.
The drummer is the one hitting the super high notes which in itself is amazing. Any drummer that also sings is talented period.
Rick Emmet, one of the finest voice's you'll ever hear.
RCORDED IN 1978,,, RELEASED IN JAN OF 1979 ,,, TOTALY 70s GOLD
Absolutely correct....his guitar playing is up there, too.
What a voice is right. Love
This and Just a game are my two favorite Triumph songs such an underrated band
So this is the song. Everything about it is top shelf. This is Triumph at its best.
After Rik Emmett left Triumph in the early 90's, he released "Absolutely" and went on a club tour of the US. Got to see this man play from about 12 feet away. Was a religious experience.
I drummer friend of mine had him as a prof at Humber College for Music business. Not sure if he is still instructing at that College.
One of the best Canadian rock bands. 🤘🏻🇨🇦🤘🏻
Wow, I am impressed with the quality of this live performance.
I saw this actual show live and he sounds exactly like this live.
Wheeeewwww that VOICE!!! Love Triumph! This is my favorite song from them. Sung with passion!
Finally, bro. Someone listened it's about time someone got to some triumph, so great 3 man band.👏🔥💯👍
Can’t get enough of Rik Emmett!❤️This brings back great memories!!
I think you're a rocker at heart Jamel.....dig this one.
Awesome. Thank you! Triumph needs more air time!
There probably wont be a lot of requests for this one but "the Blinding Light Show/Moonchild" is an incredible piece of music by Triumph
Omg I absolutely LOVE Rik Emmett!
Rik Emmet is a college music teacher in Toronto nowadays! He is my friend’s daughter’s teacher... The kids found some old pics of him with big hair and spandex and they were killing themselves.... 😃🤣
He was so sexy!🔥
Triumph. My first ever live concert. I was 16 in 1980. Stage right next to the speakers . . . couldn’t hear the lawn mower the next day. Blinding Light Show blew the crowd away. Thanks for reacting to one of the greats. 👍
You gotta give it up to triumph for sounding so powerful and clear live, especially with those high notes
I still get shivers during the intro! Been a fan since '86 Then I work up a sweat just headbanging in my chair! Can't wait to hear you do more of my favourite (note the 'u') power trio.
Ah, Jamel has finally discovered the "other" Canadian power trio. Rip Emmett STILL has the pipes today, dude can still belt it out. Next up - Magic Power, give it a shot!
