    My daughter is a 2023 graduate. I think in addition to having the grades, my daughter was an excellent athlete and participated in many sports over the years. She also had church duties and a job at Chipotle. I think the Academy wants to see that a person can successfully juggle a schedule like that and not burn out. I remember when we went to hear a seminar for the Airforce Academy, they asked the parents has your child ever pushed a broom across the room? Has your child ever been trusted with the keys to lock up a store at the end of the day? I think most of the parents were taken aback to hear that. One parent was so shocked she said, no, what use would my son have with a broom in the Air Force Academy? I think she missed the point ....

    thank you so much for making this video, I just recently decided to make the Naval Academy my priority school, but I just graduated my freshman year of hs with bad grades, so now at least I know that I still have a chance at getting in if I really work hard for my sophomore and junior years

      Yes! It's not too late! It will actually look good on your application if you do well your sophomore year because it'll show that you've adjusted and learned from your mistakes from freshman year. But grind out the rest of your high school!

    I have two questions:
    1- I have a pretty high weighted GPA but my unweighted is around 3.9. I have two more years before I graduate, what GPA should I be aiming for to help my application?
    2- If you get accepted to the naval academy does that mean you are accepted to USNA? Thank you!

    • @navalaviation
      @navalaviation  4 роки тому +4

      Great questions! First, you're GPA is looking pretty stellar so far. Keep it up and you'll do just fine. There's no set GPA but just aim for a 4.0 every year. I know that's a really generic answer but realistaclly that's all I can really say. Second, yes if you get a letter of appointment into the Naval Academy, you have been accepted. NAPS acceptances are only given out after you've been rejected from USNA. Hope this helps

    Hello JC. First off, thank you for all the videos that you do. I am new to your channel so I am scrolling some of the old videos. I am currently a junior in HS, with a 3.8 GPA, on my school's JV sport team, an Eagle Scout, and able to adapt and conquer. I haven't been able to be involved in any of the clubs because they have been conflicting with my scout schedule. Do you have any recommendations for me? Again, thank you sir for helping those that are trying to apply to USNA. Go Navy Beat Army!

      It seems like you're on track. Just work hard to get that GPa up to a 4.0 as close as possible, study up for your SAT/ACT exam, try to get on the varsity team, and keep serving either as an Eagle scout or you can quit and join some clubs. Up to you.

    Hi, I'm an incoming NAPster for the class of 2021. This year will have a 2 week quarentine before the 21st, so we are to report to NAPS on the 15th. My question is about the Indoc period and if you can explain your experience and maybe give advice on any struggles you faced and what you may have done differently. Other than that, I have been prepping a ton of materials (school, clothes, toiletries) and wanted to know what you received from NAPS... I just don't want to be that guy that has to carry everything everywhere on the first day with unnecessary stuff. Thanks a ton, love your videos since they are very informational and insightful.

    That's great video and really help to guide my son. I have a question, what would you choose if you have to select only one. One is Speech and Debate - my son (13 yo) won a couple of competitions in local tournament. Second is JROTC.
    My son is playing golf now, and he will make it to the Varsity, and he has to decide to add one more activity in H.S.
    Which one would you suggest?

    • @navalaviation
      @navalaviation  2 роки тому +1

      Both are great! I personally did debate in hs but I know of a lot of people here that did jrotc in hs moreso than debate. I would suggest the one that your son takes most interest in because that will be where his passion lies and he will spend more time in that area. That being said, the admissions office would probably favor someone that did jrotc more than a debate because it is more time commitment and it shows that someone is genuinely interested in the regimented lifestyle of the military. Hope this helped sir

      I think you could definitely still be in the running. Your JROTC and leadership involvement will definitely help you out a lot but my strongest recommendation is to try to retake the SAT/ACT exams and get as high of a score as possible because sometimes that makes up for any grade deficiencies they might see in your GPA. If it doesn't end up working out, you could try really hard at a community college or normal college and reapply!

    I'm going into my freshman year of highschool, and am trying to do everything I can to make myself a good candidate. I'm going to do NJROTC and I swim club but I'm not planning on swimming for my school. • @navalaviation
      @navalaviation  4 роки тому +5

      Leadership is not something that we apply for and get. It's a lifestyle we build everyday. The academies see our leadership through the small actions we take like serving our communities whether it's volunteering at a church, helping out at a shelter, tutoring someone, or just being a captain of your swim club team. Yeah, it's gonna take some time out of your day and I really think academic and athletics should take priority in your life. But if you have some time on the weekends, think about spending just a little bit of your time somewhere else and helping a little. It could literally be just as simple as you asking your coach if you could stay a little bit after practice and help teach the younger kids with their swim stroke. In terms of the application, you would need an official title so I put down "swim instructor for early childhood kids" for a clinic that I volunteered at over the summer at my local high school. Doesn't have to be that big of a deal

    • @navalaviation

      The admissions teams at all the academies invest a lot of financial and professional support to their prep schools. I actually felt like there were more tutors, resources, and better studying environments at the prep school and I absolutely loved it. I learned the most I ever have there and I don't regret it at all. But besides curriculum, everything else at the prep school is structured to reflect lifestyle at the actual academy. So it's very similar in a lot of aspects.

My high school transcripts show year average grades (average grade for both semesters) but I know a lot of school transcripts show semester grades too. In other words, can I just send my transcript with year-end grades only? Thank you so much JC!

    Hi JC! I have been thinking of applying to USNA for many months now and I was happy that I could get an understanding of life in the academy and the admissions process from your videos. But I was wondering if it would be difficult to apply in my circumstances. I'm a junior high school student living abroad, how complicated would the admissions process be for me since I'm out of country? I just wanted to know if you know somebody who got in with similar circumstances to me. Thanks and I look forward to your future videos!

    • @navalaviation
      @navalaviation  4 роки тому

      Not complicated at all! As long as you are a US citizen or you are willing to denounce your foreign citizenship and gain American citizenship, your application process should be exactly the same as anyone else besides your congressional nomination. Your nomination needs to be from a US senatorial, congressional or presidential source. So if you talk with your blue and gold officer that you'll be assigned once you start the application, he should notify you of who to talk to for your nomination. Hope this helps.

    I am currently a sophomore in a very very very small school and USNA has been my dream since I was in 4th grade. I have seen videos and read countless websites, but the one and the only concern I have is mental health history. There were 6 months I went to a therapist, then was told I was good and didn't have to go anymore, I just don't know how strict they will be, and I am terrified that my chances of admission are shattered. I just would like to know how strict they are about mental health.

    • @navalaviation
      @navalaviation  4 роки тому

      So based on the intial health, medical, and physical screenings, there is no direct test or procedure they use to measure mental health. However, there are a ton of interviews and recommendations one needs to get into an academy such as a senator/congressional nomination, a letter of recommendation from several school teachers, and a one-on-one interview with your regional Blue and Gold officer. All of these require some sort of physical interaction that require verbal professionalism and a sound mental health in order to pass. As long as you do well with those and the doctors don't see anything harmful in your medical history during your medical test, you should be fine. There are plenty of resources here at the Academy for those dealing with a poor mental health as well.
