    Hi Michelle. I was diagnosed with T1D last week. It's my first couple days out of the hospital and I was worried at first about the diet change. I haven't changed the type of food I eat so much, but I had to portion it much smaller than I'm used to. I was worried I'd have to fee hungry all the time. This video have been so great in helpibg me manage my cravings. Thank you so much!

Takes some time to prepare and you need to refrigerate for a day it but it's as tasty as any dessert. I don't remember the recipe - it was from an old Atkins book - but I'm sure you can find one online. Put walnuts on top.

    My nutritionist and Dr verified to me that for type 2 (I didn’t ask for type 1) we are NOT supposed to subtract the fiber. Type 2 diabetics please be careful with some info out there. Look at the “Total Carb” that is what’s important. Fiber (as well as protein) helps your body digest the food in a way that it will not spike sugar as fast or as bad as a food item with no protein or fiber but fiber will not “negate” or magically “cancel carbs”. That info / calculation is used by those who are doing Keto Diet, not for diabetics!

    I think I may be diabetic (I have 90% of symptoms) but I’m terrified of needles so I don’t want to get diagnosed and have to inject insulin into myself.. thank you for this, I’m trying to fix my body naturally

    • @tiger98011
      @tiger98011 Рік тому +1

      I'm the exact same way. I have extreme needle phobia, like super extreme. I got diagnosed 12 years ago as T2D when undergoing chemo for lymphoma that spread to my lungs, kidney,pancreas. I would never test myself because I couldn't push the trigger for dinner pokes, but could alternate site test. Then my insurance quit covering the only model listed for alternate site testing and I feel way out of control up to a 12.1 a1c. Finally got a dexcom g6 and that has helped tremendously with helping me change dust and exercise to get down to 8.6 and lose a lot of weight.
      Please don't play around though! If you haven't or have been tested and getting treatment, work hard!! My cholesterol levels were good, but this year, 2 weeks before my 46th birthday, I had a heart attack. Went to the ER and they did an angiogram and put in an emergency balloon pump and did a quad bypass the next day. Dr said it was because of poor control of sugars. They forced me into insulin while I was in the hospital for over a week. They started the injections and I was suprised, I barely felt them!!!
      Now I've been on insulin (MDI) for a few months and my most recent a1c came back at 6.2!! I'm so needle phonics, but I told my doctor I don't want to go back on the pills, I want to stay on insulin to help keep my numbers as low as possible to reduce my risks as much as possible from further complications. If I'm later able to greatly reduce my insulin by continuing my exercise /diet and losing more weight, great, but I'm starting on until I would know for a fact I can easily get an a1c under 6.5!!
      I use the 32x4 needless and maybe 90% off time I don't feel it.
      I'm now looking at getting a tandem pump to incorporate my dexcom since omnipod 5 isn't approved for those of us who are T2D yet, to further reduce my pokes.

    Hi Michelle!
    I'm 20 years old and was diagnosed with T1 two weeks ago. Your videos have been helping me stay positive and productive. Since you have 15+ years of experience with all this, how do you handle the depressive luls? I used to stress eat before I was diagnosed and now it feels like eating and food have become much more restrictive. I'm worried that if God forbid something bad happens in my life I'm going to go off of my diabetes regimen and risk complications. How have you persevered through the bad times while still keeping a regimen?
    Thank you for your videos, I look forward to each one you post. :)

    • @MichelleLord
      @MichelleLord  6 років тому +1

      Hi Crystal! Thanks so much for reaching out. It is hard to take care of diabetes when you are going through a hard time or dealing with stressful life situations. Honestly, the best way to get through tough times and keep on track is to find a support system. There is an AMAZING online T1D community on Instagram. You can meet so many T1Ds from all over the world, and everyone is super supportive and willing to lend an ear when you are having a rough time. I find that connecting with other T1Ds really increases my motivation for managing my diabetes. You could also find a local support group through JDRF, but overall, having other T1Ds to talk to is key! :)

    • @monneered1777
      @monneered1777 6 років тому +2

      I fall off my regimen all the time ☹️ I’m also afraid of complications in the long run. Best advise is to stick to your carb ratio and stay compliant with your insulin intake. At first, it may be super overwhelming, but just make sure you take your insulin. Don’t restrict yourself, just account for the carbs you intake. Eventually, a healthy lifestyle will follow.

    I'm new to insulin as a T2D after heart issues caused by the diabetes. They didn't clarify it to me in regards to insulin usage as they just basically were like here are pens we have been using on you in the hospital, use 2 units per carb serving (15 carbs).
    I heard what you are saying about net carbs, but when I was hanging by just diet /exercise and pills, they told me to look at total, not meet carbs.

    I was told by my endo not to go by net carbs.. like, the total carb count is what I should go by

    • @MichelleLord
