Hi Eric, so good to see you back! I've recently achieved qualified light vehicle technician status over here in the UK since you've been away, and am currently training on hybrid/EV technology. This is something I did in large part because you inspired me, so thanks for all those videos and looking forward to future ones. :)
The OG youtuber is back! You were so ahead of everyone, I graduated HS in 2010 and wanted to learn about cars so I started watching you and you helped me so much
Idk if it’s in my head but Eric sounds a lot calmer to me, just the cadence of his voice while explaining and working sounds way less stressed than before the hiatus, I hope you feel that way too man🙏
Great to see Eric back. One of the best, most instructive technicians on the Web. Very practical, and thorough, leaves nothing to imagination and guesswork. Super.
holy cow, Eric..i want to say THANK YOU for all these years for helping us out with tons of info about fixing our cars. i have to say its been a very long min that i have seen one of ur vids and boy u look super different with the facial hair sir. i was watching another video from DailyDrivenExotics for the first time about something and i thought one of the guys from that vid was you driving in their Lambo:).. i thought u made it big time rich and was excited for u. anyways, i want to sincerely tell u thank you for all that knowledge brother. keep up the great work Mr Eric... at this point, i view u like an uncle that everyone go to when needed help with their car.
Thanks for the upload CarGuy... let's me know you are okay. I am eager for you to get settled enough to start churning out the videos more regularly.... maybe not to the volume you had before, but something that allows you to achieve the balance you are looking for. I'll probably never do a differential like this... but it was fun to watch, like most of what you do. Thanks for sharing it with us.
When I manual-swapped my 1998 S70 T5 a few years ago, I installed a Quaiffe limited-slip differential. It made a significant different in the amount of power transferred to the road, especially in wet conditions. I also own a 2007 Acura TL Type S, but it's an automatic; the manual-trans Type S did come with a factory-equipped limited slip differential, but the automatic did not.
PLEASE GET A SHOP!!! You have sooooooo much knowledge and experience that helps us not so mechanically not inclined to do the jobs our wives want us to do!!!
Always great to see you teaching people how to get a difficult job done. You always give valuable tips and methods to help everyone. Ahh counter clockwise or left handed threads, I've been caught out and feel very silly. Front loading washing machines often have the evil bolt :-D
@@ericthecarguy Thank you Eric. i caught the covid and it screwed the brain up, but i'm english so no difference ha ha :-D. Yes taking the micky out of our self keeps us grounded, never be too serious. Dam don't i talk a lot lol.
Glad to see videos I do not have the tools to attempt or not, but always enjoy your explanations. Thanks so much for all your work, one of the best mechanics to explain how to do things, with little asides that are important.
First video in awhile and I have firsthand experience with this job 😄 Given how much headache I had when replacing the bearings in my GSR transmission, I kind of wish I spent the money on an LSD. I broke the case and bent the plate of the shift mechanism of the transmission doing what you did, tightening down bolts because the dowel of the shift mechanism doesn't sit perfectly flat on its own so the other end wasn't notching into the case. After that $400 dollar disaster and figuring out I could use a Flathead to press down on the flat plate that the rod sits in to get it to sit straight up, then the case went right down. The differential bearings were also a trip, one came off with some heat and nothing more than my gloved hand lifting it up, The other I had to cut off because even the bearing puller wasn't moving it past the point where the chisel could get it to. Also those detent springs can be replaced / upgraded for a firmer shift feel, FYI.
Had to press Like on this right away because I'm just glad you're back. I have a mechanical diff lock (quaife) on my Fiesta ST and I gotta say I didn't regret the choice. 👍👍
Very interesting. Watched every second of it. Not pertinent to my '01 Chevy 2500HD, but it doesn't matter.... I still learned from you. As usual thanks for bringing us along!
Bro thank you for all your videos I really appreciate you I just swap my 04 Honda Accord V6 6sp just watching your videos keep up the good work bro God bless you
Dammit man. You just solved the reason why my shifter would vibrate in my old Integra. Too bad I sold the car a while ago lol. Ps I changed the clutch on it with your videos! Cheers.
Great to see you buddy! My head turns to spaghetti with transmissions, esp auto but your vids help tremendously! All the best from sunny Glasgow/Scotland!!😁😁😁
12:28 i've had success with using a leather wrench on the body of the diff, on several models of diffs where this issue was presented. Just held in the vise loosely, and using the wrench to give me counter. In some cases, depending on how things line up, i can prop the wrench (which is a big one, meant for large 20 cm pipes) against the wall by my bench. One could also use a pipe to hold the wrench in place if something or someone near the vise helps.
I had two basically identical vehicles and one had a LSD and one didn't. There was a huge difference in the traction especially in gravel, dirt, rain, etc.
If you don’t have a press , you can use the same exact heat trick that he used on the speedo ring for the bearings. In fact I don’t even have a torch I used a nice heat gun and it slid right on.
One thing I always do when re-assembling split case transmissions is to make up 3 or 4 "dowels" by cutting the heads off of some 4" - 6"(whatever length works for you) bolts. Taper the ends on a grinder and the alignment becomes a breeze.
Lsd for fwd is a must to help using all the power. You said it perfect Eric. I hate that differentials are tarnished from people just welding them shut especially in rwd applications
The wavetrac unit was the best thing I ever installed on my b18c swapped eg I use for a daily driver. The traction from an open diff is night and day. If anyone is thinking about doing it, it really isn’t that hard to install if you’ve done swaps or have experience wrenching. Do it!
I have a P2A5 manual 5 speed I got from an 96 or 97 Accord I found at pull-a-part, actually got most of the parts I needed for a swap. Sourced everything else from around the Internet. I'm getting ready to do a manual swap on my 99 Accord 2.3. I've been thinking about trying to get a LSD for mine, since I've gotta open it up anyway, I wanna make sure everything looks good, gears, synchros, etc.. I'm guessing the actual Lsd is probably not cheap.
I had to shim the differential on my Integra type r to have the correct end float. Also, Honda stated thread lock on the differential ring gear bolts. Ring gear, I locked it in the vice vertically and torqued the bolts
He's back 🎉
