I have one of these! Mine is a 1983 2wd and I got mine in similar condition, total garbage. Its been about 3 years now of constant work and its now reliable as a new car off the lot. Great to see someone taking care of old beater vehicles!
Dude nice. A couple months ago I got a 1984 Datsun king cab pickup 4x4. I got super lucky. My friend actually found it but he can’t drive stick so I bought it. And it’s been the funnest project. It already has upgraded 31” tires and a Webber carburetor. Just about everything works. I’ve had so much fun replacing old parts like the slave and master cylinder, cv boots, brake lines. Interior. New stick bushings and shocks/ struts. Removed gas tank cleaned up rust. New electric fuel pump and filter. New led lights. The list goes on. Planning on putting a 3” body lift. It’s been real. Off roading has been awesome
I like how you don’t edit out you tripping over your words. More like keeping it real. Others would stress themselves out doing 13 takes and edit out most of it.
Man, nice I had a 1983 Nissan King cab 4x4 I had bought new. It blew a head gasket at about 50k miles, traded it in on a new Ford Ranger 4x4 a great truck !

Funny, my d21 came stock with a brass radiator hose coupler on the lower like that. Both hoses still stamped "Nissan" and it lasted like that for 27 years

Just found this episode. Interesting fact about those Nissan PUs from the 80s. I owned one new that got totaled on a snowy day sitting in front of my house! Loved that truck. Back when Nissan was making better vehicles than Toyota. I was told that when these trucks entered the US they were classified as cars since they were built on a car platform/frame and that the beds when installed here and reclassified as trucks. This was done to circumvent the Japanese truck limit allowed here to protect the small US truck market
That truck looks like a champ, man. Nice to see that you saved it from just being another crushed up block of metal. I got a 96 Nissan pickup and it runs like new after 300,000 miles.

In 87 I bought Nissan hard body 2.4 liter 8 plugs throttle body, kept it 14 years, one of the most reliable vehicles I've ever owned, it always started after you let off the key, nothing fancy but it got me around for well over 200k
The transaxle on the GMC camper which makes it front wheel drive, is the same one, which is on Olds Toronados, Cadillac Eldorados, 1980's Sevilles & mid to late 1970's Buick Rivieras. It's a bit of a "hot rod" legend on it's own. Of course, that camper is worth saving, if it's in as good a shape as it appears to be, but even if it wasn't, it'd be worth pulling that transaxle out. They were reliable, but what really makes them cool imo, is they could be used to make a mid-engined sports car!
You are so lucky to live where you do. There may be two or three of these trucks around here that where bought new here. They where bad for rust and most where probably off the road after 8 or 10 years.
I own a 1985 Nissan 720 4x4 and its on the road every day! 2023 still going! Best to use Rotella or Delo 10W-40W or 15w-40w with these becuse of the zinc in it. Weber Carbs are great for these too:P

Cool old truck. Never seen that model before. Definitely worth saving. Loved your kids reaction when they sat in it & they mentioned the spider webs !! Lol
I had a 1985 720, these trucks were basically indestructible other than rust (and sometimes the motor would eat head gaskets, but mine never did). Very tough little buggers. They would literally haul anything you could fit inside the box and laugh it off. Obviously with 100hp and 132lb-ft toque (though the torque curve was basically FLAT) they werent tow rigs, but they would still attempt to pull anything you hitched to them and in many cases would succeed. I towed many big land yachts around with mine, lol! You basically drove it wide open everywhere and it simply wouldn't break 😂 The Z24 engine was stupid overbuilt and with the restrictive smog head you simply couldn't blow it up. Put a rock on the gas pedal in neutral and it would rev to about 7000 if I remember correctly but it still wouldn't blow up. My father told me a customer ran one till it siezed from no oil after a change, they broke it free with a pipe wrench and filled it with oil, customer drove it home. Mine still ran like new when i got sick of it (the only car this thing could beat in a race was probably a stock VW bus) and traded it. I regret that sometimes, it was a great little truck. I believe it was still around bumping around a farm well into the 21st century....but yes, time was not kind to the bodies. I dont remember the last time i saw one on the road.

Those mid 80's nissan trucks in my opinion. The best small kingcab pickup trucks. I drove an 85 model factory lifted with a 4 wheel drive. I could not hear it when it was running idle inside or outside. The low end torque in the slower speeds, strong yet smooth for a small 4 wheel drive truck.
