Love the old Slant Sixes! Had a bunch of them. You definitely need to adjust the valves, Michael. When they are set right, you can't barely hear them! I also love my old Super Six 225 with the Carter BBD 2 barrel set up from a 318. They ran really strong also.

Really cool lil duster, I’d leave the slant 6 in it and fix it up. Everybody does the v8 swaps anymore honestly, it’s cool seeing a hopped up slant 6 still in it. Glad you guys saved it, honestly it doesn’t look too bad definitely worth fixing up.

In 1974 when I was 16 years old I delivered a brand new 6 cylinder Duster from Denver to a dealership in Montrose, Colorado. I was in heaven driving a brand new car at 16 years old! Not sure how my dad arranged for me to do so but I certainly wasn’t about to object! The drive there was a lot more fun than the Greyhound bus ride back to Denver.
I sure enjoy your videos! My in-laws had a GMC motorhome back in the 80’s. It brings back some great family memories.

you're so right with your comment "using the old stuff is better than using new stuff". after replacing the dist-rotor, -cap and wiring on my good old Opel Commodore he runs like a "bag of nuts", as we say in German. i've searched days for the fault, checked everything. than i bought new "old" genuine parts from Opel/Bosch (rotor, cap and wirings) and - my good old pal runs as new. new parts, manufactured today, are often crap =(
BTW: i like how you bring good old cars back to life and your vid's. keep going on to rescue little pieces of the good old times before they're crushed and forgotten forever. always cute to see when your kid's are working also on the old stuff, thumbs up ^_^.

    • @Fordman7575
      @Fordman7575 10 місяців тому

Hate to burst your bubble. You can definitely kill them! The one I owned left me and my younger brother stranded 2 1/2 miles from home in below zero weather when it broke a connecting rod. And when I was a kid I got to watch my dad swap out 3 or 4 slant 6's that blew up. And two were in the same car. The original engine blew up and he swapped in a used engine and it made it 20 miles and blew up too.
But it's cool to see a modified inline 6.

    Dear Budget Builders.
👍👌👏 Well done again (video and work). That's a really nice shaped vehicle and I like 6 cyl. inline engines much better than V8 engines anyway. Yours is a 3.6 litre. In Germany this would still be called a really big engine. But especially in the 1960's and 1970's! So please, Sirs, please keep it. This six banger should be more than strong enough for such a relatively small car. The gas mileage is better too. Additionally I love how much space is under the hood. Makes it easy to work on everything. If you are able to get rid of the rattling/clanking noise and free the clogged muffler, you will have fun with this orange Plymouth. I don't know why but somehow I think that the car needs racing numbers and black stripes.
As always: Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
Best regards luck and especially health to all of you.

Just want to say after watching several of your videos I like your gentle approach to turning the motor by hand feeling it out. I believe the process you use gives the motor an honest chance of running as well as it can. So much damage is done by others just hitting the starter and see what’s happens which is so immature mechanics.

That thing's got a pretty hefty cam in it. Sounds 😎 cool

Al Bundy would approve, and so do I. That camera yeet was epic, and I think that's what convinced the 225 to run😁
You gotta clean this one up, run dual glasspacks out the back, & give that rear end a boost so you can run Cragar SS and Cooper Cobras.
That 5 ton was a nice bonus - I had an opportunity to drive a Deuce and a half many moons ago, and that exhaust note never gets old. You're missing out on double clutching it, though.👍

oh wow! a mostly intact Duster decal is still on the back of this thing. My brother then I had a 74 with the 318 V8, ran like a champ. Had to replace it when the rear passenger spring shackle came up through the trunk, gotta love upper midwest rust. My vote is to keep the 6! Thanks for the content guys!

That 225 slant six was never a power house. But you can't kill those motors. Good car, good motor. I worked on many of those when I was your age. Enjoy the car. Best of luck.

Chad's craftsmanship is really beyond compare.. He really deserved the Gonzo from Paul, I'm very sure he will restore it to a prestige condition.

Keep the 6 . If you want to play turbo it . That is the sweetest /6 I've ever heard . I know back in the day my dad's truck with a slanty would pull a 350 auto van every time . The six would just Rev faster and the 3 on the tree added to it . I so love this one so much . I remember my mom's 76 dart and my 6'4" big butt 300+ at the time tring to fit in back seat... with dad having the seat back all the way ... Thank you the memories you just brought back wow . Pluss you are going to make bank on this car . They go for so much now. Watch out for the 904 transmission with the extra power . Always Cary an extra Ballesteros resistor. Trust me I know . Napa has the bushing rebuild kit for the windshield wipers... you will need it . I think that might be a 7 1/4 rear if so an upgrade to an 8 Ford or a 8.8 out of an explorer ( disk brakes ) would be a good call. I can't wait until the clean up video
Did I mention I want this car so bad .....I'm 54 and it makes me feel like a kid again ❤❤❤ thanks again I love your channel and that you and your dad do it together

The first new car I bought was this one's younger cousin, a '75 Dodge Dart Sport. Loved it, wish it was still around.
Great work getting this going, will be looking for it to hit the pavement 👍

Yeah Brothers, you just can't kill those slant 6's - I had one in a '80 Volare and the more I pounded on it the better it ran - very dependable! Great video!
