"Done" and "mobile" are two ideas worlds apart. lol Spinning wrenches all my life, we are never done with these things. Thanks for the content, Sam. We all really enjoy you and Matt both.
I am so pleased that you have been able to make content and gain your own following and I am pleased to be a member from the beginning and know you will continue to grow exponentially in the next 24 or less months! Congratulations ❤!
I'm really happy to see you working on the old "53". Now, if we can get Matt back on the old "57". Love the old iron but the trucks have a special place in my heart.
Can’t get enough of yourself and Mat, speaking of whom, where is he I am getting withdrawal symptoms!! Love the contact Sam, oh and how can you listen to that forklift with its rattling exhaust or whatever that would drive me nuts!! Big shout out from sunny Ireland 🇮🇪
I love your work ethic. It’s something rare in today’s world and always with a smile! I love watching your videos and I am always in anticipation for your next one! Great channel and I’m glad that I found it!
It has bin a long time since I have seen one of those old mac's 4X4 transitions. Even longer since I have drove one. Great content Sam, please keep it coming.
Boy Sam You bring back old memories of replacing loose rivets on my IH loadstars with JD 350dozer pad bolts. drill out holes set the bolt shoulder in hanger and frame. tighten steel lock nuts on a hard steel machine flat washer..
Hi from Scotland. Good job getting the spring packs back on, big job by yourself. Re paint job, put Scrappy Industries on the doors. When your young fella is way older he can say my dad did that, he was Sam , Scrappy Industries. Keep up the great work. 👍
Sam, I used to be a heavy truck mechanic in a Peterbilt & Western Star dealership, after 3 back surgeries my surgeon told me I need to find a different career, at 40 years old & just got married it was a daunted task. I was heavy into vintage trucks, I had a KB-8 International & WC2264 White, when I stopped wrenching , my vintage trucks, tools, equipment all went ..it was a tough decision.
Love that your finally back on the mini Mack, been too long since it made any content. Kept waiting for that old copper line to crack while you were trying to bend it. They quit using copper in automotive applications since they can work harden from vibration. I would have pulled the line right off and annealed it. For copper you heat to a red heat then quench in water, you can do that multiple times since as your working it it will harden again.
Yep drive shaft , Iv shortened a few without any probs with mig welder , trick is to mount it on the truck and dial gauge it in with tack welds once central weld up , balanceing will be ok on the speeds we do ,, has to be a mile out to warrant balance weights thanks for sharing Sam
Starting the new year off on a positive note Sam getting back into the old girl, great little project truck this one. Try grabbing a length of TIG wire to make a pattern of the pipe route. Good vlog
Sam, when I worked on commercial trucks we would put a bolt in each front spring hanger then lower the frame down to install the rear bolts. That way you weren't fighting it. I know your springs were not still attached to the rear end. We did frame extensions and shorts so the springs always stayed on the rearend. Frame bolts were always used. However I don't recall any of the guys torque wrenching frame or hanger bolts. They would just impact torque everything.AL B.
Great project! I sure you know this, but just in case, copper work hardens very quickly. The more you bend it, the harder it gets to bend. Just heat it with a torch to just below red hot, and let it cool, and it will be much softer again. Copper also has one of the highest heat conductivity rates of any metal, almost as high as gold. It takes a lot of heat to solder it or anneal it. Keep going, I love the old Macks!
great video , i was surprised to see that none of the leaf springs weren't broke at the center bolt . i worked for Hendricksons for 38.5 yrs built alot of Mack springs new and old. Those old multi stacked springs lasted a long time as long as they weren't over loaded. Can give you a lot of info about springs if you need some . Looking forward to the next video .
Hey Sam, it appears that 1610 yolk was balanced with that drum. You might pick up some vibration; maybe you can clock it to where it was originally indexed.
Back in the 80's I used to help my grandfather build driveline in the driveway using a stick welder. My cousin still has a couple that we built for his father in some trucks he built, totally do able despite what the pro shops tell you.
In reality, those driveline park brakes are pretty effective due to the reduction ratio of the pinion. The down side being a heavy load on a hill is only held by a couple of pinion teeth.
If you have a welder, a torch and a BFH, you can fab most anything. You may want to throw a roll of duct tape in the toolbox as well. Thinking outside the box is like common sense, if you don't have any, you are likely to struggle at everything. Great job Sammy
An air hammer will cut those rivets right off so you don't have to torch them off and do damage. I worked in an alignment shop and my old time boss didn't believe in a torch lol
The little Tonka type loader is a cute touch on right front side. Maybe you working on yours may get Matt started back on his 6 wheel Autocad lol. Like it when the wife helps with builds , nice family involvement. Can't wait till I heal from back surgery and my tractor is back from dealership warranty work. I have a week to get driveway ready then surgery. Then 4 to 8 weeks recovery. Hope your going to put maxi cans in? I myself would like to find a mack 6 wheeler short wheel base. With either a mack 6 or quad transmission. B, U model or the day cab coe. Personally I would have found a mack 237 engine so it would be all mack.
Sam, you may want to get DOT lines anyhow. Copper has a nasty habit of work hardening. Bending on it that much it may develop a crack, and fail under pressure. I learned that the hard way repairing an old compressor. Quite noisy when it let the air out. :P
I was going to ask Sam : if he had tried to anneal the pipe first, that would soften if enough to rid it of work hardened area, and make bending easier! Just a tip from an old guy!
I was actually wondering why you dont build your own drive shafts, so im definitely interested in watching you do that! Such a cool build! I've got a little B30 Mack that was my grandfathers with a magnadyne gas engine in it. Im hoping to find someone who would rebuild it someday. Love the videos!
The problem I've found with nylock nuts is the nylon can hold moisture in against the threads since it creates a seal at the nylon. Nylocks seem to have a tendency to seize up more. The deformed nuts not so much.
Nice build , I'm getting ready to help on a build putting a 6V53 ? With a 18spd in a International bus frame , air ride , 1600 loadstar cab ,12 or 14ft flatbed. I'm figuring a lot of floorboard/dash work to get it to fit. Keep gathering up the old stuff , hope to make the spring show this year .
Nice old truck. I've heard never reuse u bolts as they can fail. My old 3/4 ton Ford gave me a lesson on what salt does to threads. I guess looking things over good is a must as retightening is on big dump trucks. Lucky to have help getting things done. I think she needs a bonus. Good video.BTW try boiled linseed oil for a natural patina.
I like this project though I dig vintage iron to begin with. I have a 1953 brockway bus. I need to find a vintage bus body for it but it will be a fun project either way.
I think I'd cut a nice square hole for access where those shifters come through, and make a plate to fit over the shifters to seal it up nice and tight. That way you will have good access to the top of those shift towers, if you ever need to service that stuff. Be a pain to have to remove the entire floor to get at that stuff. JMO
I love it. I would like to take a old medium truck and make it into a camper, or a RV tractor. I would have to keep the auto in this case. And the air bags.
I have wanted to do an A40 for years and just never found a truck and components that I could afford. I wanted to put a mechanical 8.3 Cummins in it. I have a 2nd gen ram 3500 with the same engine that you are using, but I wanted a little more power. Since you are keeping the original rearend, the 5.9 will probably work fine. That final is probably around 5.18 or lower and I wanted a little better road speed. Will still make arealy nice truck!
Those transmissions get hot . I drove a mack for some time and the heat would literally come through the floor . That plastic floor board might melt and warp.
Imagine having a wife that would help you in the shop. You are blessed. My 1st wife all she wanted to do was complain,

110.000 subscribers! This is really taking off. Well deserved Sam! Saturday saved!

Its awesome to watch you, you always being happy, sharing your builds and repair also it's cool seeing the family help out
Nice to see that you are using PPE and correctly. So many of the youtubers I watch do the safety squint. Just takes once to lose an eye or worse.
Sammy your little guy is a show stealer !!
What a little guy !
You do an excellent presentation on your projects. Very nice to watch! Good luck on the driveshaft build, I'll be watching for it!
Glad you have these videos online! I now have found something else to watch as Diesel Creek has had some issues lately. Keep them coming. Thanks 👍👍👍👍
Like the video on the old 1953 Mack A40 Project .have nice day .
.... What a great MOM....... Its no wonder you have done so well.!! You have great support! She is one in a million!!
I love your work ethic. It’s something rare in today’s world and always with a smile! I love watching your videos and I am always in anticipation for your next one! Great channel and I’m glad that I found it!

Thanks for the update Sam, I like your drive shaft solution, it should work. Enjoyed watching, best to you.
Copper gets work hardened fast. You can anneal it by heating to a dull red and cooling slowly 🔧👍
Nice work, Sam
And always smiling even when there's a setback 👍
You have a beautiful family 👪 you all work so well together. 😊
Thanks for sharing and taking us along.
Sam, that is a very cool looking project. You got this, mate!!
Good to See You Scrappy Sam, you will have all new hardware on the existing components at this rate😅.
Can’t wait to see the progress on this truck!
Great job Sam and family great video thanks
I actually like watching you machine stuff, so the driveshaft build will be cool.
Back on the mack ❤awesome build would be great to see it on the road
Got a great team there helping with the project
Fun make the 53 Mack mobile! Thanks for sharing it.
Good job Sam! Great progress!
Sam, glad your back on the 53. I agree with you on the paint! Leaving it unfinished is cheaping out!
28:30 perfect example of “never mind I’ll just do it myself” 😂😂
Great video Sam watching from Edinburgh Scotland UK 🇬🇧
I never miss an 'episode'. 🤠

Good to see the old girl finally getting a little attention.
Between your A40 and Matt's Autocar, we are getting some great content for some cool old Trucks!
Glad to see you hired some real help

Good Afternoon from Liverpool Sam. Here we go. 🔧👍🇬🇧
Glad to see you back on the old gril Sam
Great to see the whole family working together. Ill bet people will do a double take when they hear the Mack coming down the road.
Yes It IS The Best

So glad to see you are back on the Mack again. Been a long time in tge corner. Becer miss a video my friend.
I love the sound of a Mack
Enjoy your show

It’s about time you got back to work on this.
Been waiting for this one to come back. Keep at it Sam.
I love the Mack project
Another great video Sam mate keep up the good work 👍

Great video. Remember to don't bend it the wrong way. 🙂
The mini Mac will make for a cool little dump truck!
Glad you got some help. ❤
Thanks for the vid Sam!
I CANT DO NOTHING BUT I HAVE MADE SEVERAL DRIVE SHAFTS LOOKED LIKE " S" BUT WORKED GREAT. YOU WILL HAVE NO PROBLEM😊
Mannnn! I've been dying to see this finished!
Cool project!
Patina looks cool and is popular right now but you can't say enough about a nice original colors paint job.
In reality, those driveline park brakes are pretty effective due to the reduction ratio of the pinion. The down side being a heavy load on a hill is only held by a couple of pinion teeth.

I have Never bought stuff for a project that sat around for years! 😉
A little FYI. With any non ferrous metals, copper brass etc. you can soften them by heating them up and quenching in cold water 👍
Word of the day FLEXIBLE but it’s just copper 😂 Thumbs up 👍 good job 👏
At least I was in the lower 100 for a 👍. Thanks for showing ! It is always a nice degression from daily life watch others working ... 😁
let me give you a pat on the back!
Cool build😍😍😍😍😍😍
Gonna be nice!

Just like you and Matt, I have had my share of 'fix its'. Mack will be better as a small dumper.
Sam, you may want to get DOT lines anyhow. Copper has a nasty habit of work hardening. Bending on it that much it may develop a crack, and fail under pressure. I learned that the hard way repairing an old compressor. Quite noisy when it let the air out. :P
Yes Make Up SS Is Best & Can Have Made For ? Have On My F350 1999 & 1974
I was going to ask Sam : if he had tried to anneal the pipe first, that would soften if enough to rid it of work hardened area, and make bending easier! Just a tip from an old guy!
I was told from my time at a machine/driveline shop over 80” needs to be 2 piece with a carrier bearing so it doesn’t self destruct
Nyloc nuts are basically a onetime use only. If re-using nyloc you should sit them down and hammer the insert end to tighten the nylon.
It look like I seen your little helper in the background giving the mom controls on the forklift look like a good little helper
😎💯✌Thank You.Very nice truck..!!!
You already have twin sticks, keep the drive shaft brake AND add the maxi-chambers!
I was actually wondering why you dont build your own drive shafts, so im definitely interested in watching you do that! Such a cool build! I've got a little B30 Mack that was my grandfathers with a magnadyne gas engine in it. Im hoping to find someone who would rebuild it someday. Love the videos!

Take it to work?!? I always assummed this was a full time job bc you keep so busy acquiring, fixing up your equipment and filming it all.
Those transmissions get hot . I drove a mack for some time and the heat would literally come through the floor . That plastic floor board might melt and warp.
I've had good luck bending copper tubing by packing the tube with blasting sand. Do your bending, no kinks. Clean out the sand thoroughly and hook up.
