    Kosher wheat is 7 year. The other NAS wellers are supposedly 5-6 year, so the age note makes sense. Online price for the Koshers is $100+.

    Red Breast 12 may be the friendliest dear I say Smoothest Whiskey 🥃 to introduce new drinkers to. Yes it’s 80 proof yes it’s Irish but they got to get their toe’s wet somehow. Keep it around for them.

    Have you tried the Redbreast Cask Strength 12? A little pricey, but such an improvement over the 40%. I keep hearing about Southern Star. I need to venture over to Statesville and visit the distillery.

      Up until last year, you could get Redbreast 12 Cask Strength for like $10-15 over the 80 proof ver. I got mine for $65. But I was shocked to see it's over $100 in the same store these days.... I love both though.

    Thanks for saving me $$ as I was thinking about getting Barrel Batch 35. Also I'm happy I was able to score that Lucky Seven Batch 6 Holiday Toast. Great to hear its from Bardstown. Also I'm shocked Erin isn't 35. I could've sworn she was early to mid 30s at most. Josh and Erin are ageless wonders.

    Great video! I just wish these products were available in the Canadian market. 😩
    You both spoke to the flavour notes of “craft whiskey” as being different. How so? I’m curious as you can probably imagine that, at least in Ontario where liquor distribution is regulated, we don’t get access to as wide a range of craft bourbons and ryes. I get the sense that the majority may be off-putting if one is accustomed to the more conventional profiles of well-known whiskeys from legacy distillers. How would you describe the flavour? I can easily imagine the hoppier profiles of craft beers for example as we got tons of that around here, but I’m drawing a blank if I try to picture how a craft bourbon might smell or taste like.
    Thanks and looking forward to the next video drop!

    • @stuffandwhiskey
      @stuffandwhiskey  10 місяців тому +1

      Great question! A crafty flavor is sort of a corn grain/corn husk type of note that’s distinctly different than the legacy distilleries. In its best form, it adds a robust sweetness. In its worst form, it can get quite “barnyard” like with a funky mustiness.

    I have to admit I love the Redbreast and I have started my Redbreast 27 fund. I'm generally not a fan of lower proof pours but I do have a few that I absolutely love and EW SB and Redbreast 12 year are at the top of the list. Seriously. If I had to pick three for the rest of my life, I'd put those two in and add Whistlepig 10 year.

    I do appreciate a beautiful bottle especially when the whiskey in it is good. I feel like it elevates the entire experience. If the whiskey is crap then who cares about the bottle. As a watch geek, I have to ask if josh is wearing the Tudor white face GMT.

    scotch and irish whiskey will always have more flavor at 80 proof compared to bourbon because the cask strength is so much lower. Less water added.

    Just wondering what you mean by, “signature craft note?” I’m honestly asking because I’ve have many craft whisk(e)ys and experienced notes all over the spectrum.

    • @WhiskyForBeginners
      @WhiskyForBeginners 10 місяців тому

      I'm not even sure what "craft" means in this context. Does it mean a small distillery? Then Jim Beam and Jack Daniel's were once craft distilleries. Does it mean a new distillery? Ditto. Does it mean a pretty much unknown distillery? Ditto again. It seems to me that "craft" is like "small batch" - it means whatever the speaker means at the time, which is to say it doesn't actually mean anything.

      @@stuffandwhiskey , It has me wondering if smaller (craft) distilleries are having a tendency to make their cuts from heads and/or tails a bit more generously, thus opening the potential for these nose and tasting notes to more frequently be included in their flavor profiles.

    Low proof is my problem with pretty much all Irish whiskey. You can get barrel proof bourbon for ~$45-55 all day, but for anything over 95 proof in Irish you have to go for Blue Spot which is like $130, and miss me with that.

    I haven't had any of these Bourbons, but recently saw them Bourbon hunting, which one or one's would you say is a "Definitely Buy if you see it." Frey Ranch $50, Pursuit United $65, Blue Note (Store Pick) $45, Tin Cup 10 Year $55, Wilderness Trail BiB $53, ASW Fiddler (Store Pick) $80, Doc Swinson's Alter Ego $70, Journeyman wheat cask strength $72.

      We’re definitely big fans of Pursuit United, a good Blue Note store pick from palates we trust, and that Doc Swinson’s is pretty good as well. None are bad though, but none would likely be must buys based on our own palate preferences.

    I haven't tried that Hard Truth release but all their others were dissapointing. I'll give it a shot but I'm doubting it beats out Redwood Empire Emerald Giant (and that's $30). Emerald Giant, Old Overholt BIB, 6yr Sazerac, and Rittenhouse BIB are all pretty tough competition in that under $40 and under 100 proof category. Also... I mean Old Overhold 114 exists for $30 too but I guess the proof is cheating. I'm rooting for Hard Truth - those guys seem super cool and I'll be staying at the distillery soon - but their whiskey hasn't impressed me yet. Their flavored vodkas tho... that stuff is insanely tasty.

    • @stuffandwhiskey

      Old Overholt 114 is a great call for sure! The rest we’ve either not tried or do prefer the High Road Rye. If those others are in your wheelhouse, High Road is definitely worth checking out.

    I really enjoy your content but I'm starting to sour on whiskey reviews because bottles change over time, and most reviews are neck pours like the bottles in this video. Case in point ECBP B523 - most whiskeytubers didn't like it but after the first third of my bottle it REALLY turned into something exceptional.
    I think reviews should only be done after a bottle is finished. Just my $0.02...

    • @WhiskyForBeginners

      I've made it a practice to only review a whiskey on the second or third glass. Not all whiskies change between the first and second, but enough do that it's just easier to treat 'em all that way.
