This may be of "some" interest to Duluthians of the that time. My mother and her two sisters were born and raised in Duluth. Their father came to America from Norway when his older brother said, "There's a ship leaving for America tomorrow, let's go. He was 16 at the time. They ended up in Duluth as many of Scandinavians had settled there. Their mother was born in a sod house on the plains of Nebraska. Each of the sisters went to college and became teachers (still rather unusual at that time). Their father, who was in the Spanish-American War, worked for the railroad and built a new home for the family in West Duluth. One was a home economics teacher at Ordean Jr. High, one was a Professor of Art Education in the New York University System and my mother was an Northwestern University honors music education/ piano major graduate. I was on my north on the freeway to Duluth by chance at that same time (1977), "possibly" passing the perpetrators as they were heading south down from Duluth. Who knows? Weird? The Jr. High teacher had built a home (N. 36 Ave E./E. 4th St.) up the hill from Glensheen (3300 E.London Rd). A beautiful area overlooking Lake Superior. Had been visiting there many times from Milwaukee, Wi since I was a young child. Their daughter (my cousin) dated Robert Congdon, one of the children of the original builder and owner when she was in high school.
