I took a tour of the Congdon Mansion when I was last in Duluth in 2014. As a visitor from out of state, I really knew nothing about the murders before the tour began. I was just looking forward to viewing the mansion and grounds. I love touring old homes preserved from that bygone era, and this one is quite lovely, so I am glad you showed a little of that before focusing on the killings.
The Mansion history…. It is gorgeous and with each season you get to feel how the Congdon celebrated. Yes, the one adopted daughter is imbalanced..so sad. But the rest left a great legacy in Duluth and Washington… and with future generations that are still living.
The Glensheen Mansion was amazing (haunted or not!!!) The caretakers have truly preserved the ambiance of the 1920s. Crazy how Elizabeth and Velma were both murdered. Hard to believe Marjorie still alive and in Arizona. Great story telling, as always, Ron!
It is owned by the university. Has been a museum ever since. They just did a fund raiser for the roof which took thousands and thousands of dollars to repair the clay tile roof
Sad story of Elizabeth congdon. Rip Elizabeth congdon....ty for the story and remembering her and putting a flower at her grave Ron.... safe travels 💕.....
Chester Congdon had a Great Lakes freighter named after him. The Chester A. Congdon was built as the Salt Lake City in 1907. She was renamed in 1912 after changing hands twice. She sank on November 6, 1918 near Isle Royale after running aground on a reef ( now known as Congdon Reef) in a fog while hauling a cargo of 380,000 bushels of wheat. No lives were lost, and about 50,000 bushels of the cargo was salvaged. She is now Isle Royale's third most dived wreck, behind the bulk freighter Emperor (1947) and the excursion steamer America (1928) respectively.
The June 28, 1977 page 1 article of the Minneapolis Tribune stated that Elisabeth was found in a bedroom on the second floor, across the hall from Valma’s bedroom. Although it isn’t explicitly stated, the article implies that Elisabeth was in her own bedroom. The Minneapolis Star on June 28, page 1, reported that Congdon was suffocated “in her own bed.”
My cousin lives in Duluth and I live about 3 hours away. As soon as they opened the place up for tours we went. At the time they were guided tours only and they would NOT tell you which room but after watching a lot of the news reports you could figure out it was the room with the flowered wall paper. The room you showed. At the time the guides would not even talk about the actual murders. The long hallway where the kids would play was pretty interesting as well as the boathouse down by the lake. Someone else posted it was a botched investigation and that is true!
My family would always drive south from thunder bay and we loved stopping at glensheen for the tour. It is haunting to drive past the big old house on lake superior.
Ron,I was absolutely mesmerized by this tour of the mansion and the story attached to the family. I am in love with this era and watched in awe as you told the story.I am a fanatic of FOTF.Thank you Ron
This was quite a story! I loved the visit to the Congdon house, it was like stepping back into time! Love the old photos and the home technology ofbthe time. Such a horrible end to Elisabeth's life, and her nurse. Just senseless. That adopted daughter really is pure evil! I was stunned to hear she is still alive and out there somewhere! Absolutely creepy!! You just can't make this stuff up. Thank you Ron very cool story!!!
Hi Ron It’s interesting that you bring up new cases that everybody hasn’t done to death.😀 Wow you can’t make this stuff up, the nurse being killed with a candlestick, Can’t wait for the episode! ❤️
Glad you appreciate that Mary. That’s what I keep saying - I look for the stuff most people don’t know about. so many of the stories done over and over and over on UA-cam. same story different face. Uggg!!

Hi Ron, Welcome back to MN! Thanks for doing a vlog on the famous Glensheen mansion. I just visited the mansion exactly a month ago but the self guided tours didn't have much about the murder so I really enjoyed your research! Have a good time in MN and make sure you miss the snow storm on Tuesday!😉
Thank you for doing this story. I was born in Duluth and this story has stuck with me my entire life. My sister got married and had her reception at Glenn Sheen . One of the staff actually offered my brother in law a chance to go ghost hunting in the attic. I’m very protective of this place and hope it’s around forever. The staff at one point weren’t allowed to talk about the murders until many years back. Did you get to visit the cemetery on the side of the house?
@@FacesoftheForgotten that’s kinda weird . They did tours up there for a little while . I’m guessing they stopped , don’t know what the reason would be other than lack of staff . I’m sure you can ask.
I loved the tour, Ron! It was like stepping back in time. Thank you for yet another great video. Faces of the Forgotten has become one of my top 3 favorite channels on here these days. Thanks for all you do. Rest In Peace Elisabeth. 🌹
What a story!! Very interesting indeed. The music playing during the mansion tour reminded me of The Shining ballroom!! Thanks Ron, as always, great job
Usually I just love these big, beautiful old houses, but this one kind of gave me strange vibes. It is a stunning house though! Thanks Ron! Have a great Monday!
Holy Karamba, thanks for that big donation. That’s very generous. Definitely will go to the good cause, gravestones in the works for those who have not.
Oh Ron, I enjoyed this video so much! I have visited glensheen Mansion many many times over the years I worked for several years it's a private duty nurse for a woman in St Paul who knew the condoms very well. Her insights into various situations so intriguing. Her husband, implemented numerous safeguards for the elderly woman that I worked for in response to the murderers. It's deeply affected her and her husband. It is so beautiful up there and the Mansion is incredible! Thanks Ron!
