My wife gave me the choice of the two as a Christmas gift to start my first year in retirement. Well, I wanted to make whirligigs like my grandfather did in the 50's and 60's. So I chose the scroll saw. Like you said, it might be slower, but you can do almost anything with it. It also, in my opinion, takes up less space in my shop. Band saws are a great tool to have, don't get me wrong, but at age 70 I don't feel the need to buy one. Enjoyed, take care!
Totally agree Michael, the scroll saw is definitely our go to machine. Most of the work we do with the band saw needs it to be used with a belt sander so you need extra space for that too. Thanks as always for your support, all the very best from us all. 🎄🎅⛄
Like you I have both bandsaw an scroll saw when I was a lot younger I thought a bandsaw was a necessity but unless you are doing a lot of bigger work it’s nice to have but I use my bandsaw very little I’ve become so addicted to the scroll saw I very seldom use my bandsaw Great explanation of the 2 saws as always great to see your videos as I was finishing my comment I thought we do have a bandsaw mill an it does get used more than the scroll saw we use it a great deal cutting our lumber Thanks for all your great work

Hi John, great to hear from you. The scroll saw I work with is a Hegner Multicut 2s. The main limit on the capacity it can cut is the height of the blade to the bottom of the top blade holder. About 2 inches in thickness would be the maximum that I would recommend to cut. The distance to the back of the scroll saw is the other limitation and hegner make different versions up to 20 inches in length. The band saw has a great capacity being able to handle larger pieces of wood. The scroll saw is ideal for making things like models and gifts. Hi Pablo, great to hear from you. Both the scroll saw and band saw need general maintenance as in putting on some spray grease from time to time and replacing blades. @@roryfinnegan1070 Axminster used to sell the Jet Sander we used but stopped selling it so you might find they have their own version that is very similar but is a bit less expensive. There is a fair argument to be made for both saws, but I have to agree entirely with the scroll saw bonus of being able to do internal cuts
