  • Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping have agreed to strengthen ties further during the Russian leader's second visit to China in less than a year. The country is now Russia's most important trade partner, and Xi has refused to condemn the war in Ukraine. Queen's University Belfast lecturer in modern European history Dr Alexander Titov says "seeing Russia losing or weakening itself in that war is not going to be a particularly attractive proposition" to China.
