Subscapularis Muscle Mobilization - Rotator Cuff Treatment

  • Today’s video shows how to mobilize or massage the subscapularis muscle, which is one of our for rotator cuff muscles. The subscapularis muscle is located on the anterior or front side of the shoulder blade, so only a portion of the muscle can be palpated via the armpit region.
    Irritation of the subscapularis muscle will tend to limit shoulder external rotation and produce pain on the posterior side of the shoulder and shoulder blade and the backside of the upper arm.
    If you believe you have symptoms coming from this area, give the following technique a try. Make sure to be careful not to put pressure on the neurovascular structures that run through the armpit. This technique should not produce numbness or tingling, so if it does, you likely need to change your location of treatment.
    1. Apply gentle pressure to the subscapularis region.
    2. Ask your partner to internally rotate their shoulder and feel for a subscapularis contraction.
    3. Once located, apply more firm pressure while your partner slowly externally rotates the shoulder.
    4. Then, release pressure while they reset their arm to the starting position.
    5. Repeat 10-15 times.

      The EXACT SAME SPOT your pushing; but behind it , on the back..
      What is that?
      Why would that be sore for me..

      @@RehabScience ooo.. dear , second thoughts I just lied down by self to try that spot and it's the same spot as the back where it hurts even though your coming through the arm pit..
      Also my other armpit / side hurts in the same spot!..
      I wake up with pain down my sides..
      And my shoulders hurt.. both of them . But every time I bring it up the doctor looks at me weird when I say my sides hurt when I wake up .
      As if I'm making it up..
      But it's excruciating pain ..
      It made me cry the other month how much it hurts when I wake up ..

    I feel like when I had that spot dug into to release that muscle. That it must've been Gestapo interrogators that invented the technique.

      I would recommend implementing these exercises and modifying or temporarily eliminating other activities or exercises that are triggering your pain.

    I got pain in that spot but behind it on the back.. not " IN " the arm pit.. but on my back " BEHIND" the armpit but at the bottom of it ..
    What the hell is that spot? Does anyone know m?
    Have to internet search because no use going to professionals they don't ever t have the time to be thorough..
    Let alone even touch you these days..

      That spot is usually related to the the tendons of two of the other rotator cuff muscles (infraspinatus and teres minor). I just did a video that shows how to rehab these two muscles a few days ago. You can find that video under my recent videos or under my shoulder playlist.
