For 40years i have always boiled the end of tubing, especially Ehiem and always had ease of fitting tubing and always seal well once cooled. GREAT VIDEO.

Excellent video. Thanks for making a video that wasn't full of useless commentary. Straight to the point. Excellent information. I appreciate this video and you.
was doing research so i could put an inline diffuser on my 307 cause my in tank diffuser has been driving me mad. this is the perfect solution and an amazing tutorial. thank you so much
Absolutely fantastic and thorough tutorial, thank you! I got my new Fluval 207 today after my AquaClear 50 kicked the bucket and the hosing it comes with is pretty hideous and stiff so I look forward to upgrading to lily pipes with nicer hosing!
Great video thanks dude! I’m about to upgrade to a canister on my 20G tall and it’s hard to figure out all the right tube sizes etc since I want to switch from the default fluval tubes on the 207. You’ve given me the confidence to take the leap!
Hi! Just wanted to say~ When I upgraded my tank size (20 -> 45), I could still use my Fluval 207 filter, but I had to get new tubes! I'm sooo happy I stumbled across this video! I followed all your steps and everything is working! Cheap too. You also showed me lily pipes for the first time, I had to buy some. Love them!! Thank you for the great video.
Appreciate the info. Lots of good info! From where to obtain the hose (HD is cheaper than Amazon), shaping the hose, and then beveling the hose for better sealing, down to the specifics of fitting the 17mm FZone Lily pipe setup (I have the same). The best part? It's not 30 minutes long like the other aquarists on here. This has made everything much more simple and quick. Appreciate you so much! Thank you!
Great vid man, helped me get clear tubing set up on my 307! Been using it about 9-10 months already. I hate cleaning them, but man they look so much better (and probably perform better) than those stock black hoses.
Excellent advice man, the ribbed oem lines keep getting clogged in my planted tank, been looking around for awhile for some clear smooth line info. Thanks alot.
One quick tip, before tightening the nut you can put some vaseline on the outside of the tube to make it smoother tightening without braking the nut. Also, vaseline should always be on the O'rings, it will make them last years. I have a Fluval 304 for over 10 years, still pumping with no leaks. Great video!
Outstanding video! I've got two Oase Biomaster 850s for the 220 gallon I bought and collecting tip and tricks to make it work the best I can first time. Thank you!!!
Sick! It took so long to find this! Thanks for taking the time to record this 😎🙏🏾 I still can't find a good reason why fluval uses these crappy black hoses. And they say the ribs don't affect water flow but that can't be true...right?!
Tried this for my marineland magniflo 160, worked perfectly. Boiling and beveling made it so easy to manipulate, and had i not seen your video first i would have gotten the wrong OD so you helped this process in so many ways thanks so much! Subscribed!
Thanks! All 06 Series use the same size aquastop valve so 5/8 ID will fit on all. The 106 and 206 come with the same size hose. The 306 and 407 have a different size hose. But all of the aquastop valves (The things you connect the hoses to ) are the same size , so 5/8 ID works on all.
Thanks for this. I have a different filter. Want to get a Fluval (again) with clear hoses, but needed a guide. Will definitely use the tips on tapering and boiling. Also thanks for the suggestion re: hose diameter.
I'm thinking of making a tubing sharpener by using 1 inch PVC pipe and putting a box knife blade into the side of the tubing so that I can sharpen it without risking my fingers. There would be blood if I did it your way. Thank for sharing your experience, I'm always glad to see you've posted. By the way, I'd love to see tissue culture outcomes if you took recordings of them.
A tubing sharpener is a good idea! Thanks for watching. I have a fishroom in the works where I will also be doing some more TC with a better TC setup. I have some TC outcome pics. Maybe I will share sometime. :)
Fantastic video! Thank you for this detailed description that removes any questions I had to whether or not this could be done with a Fluval. I love their filters, but could do away with their hoses.
Two days ago I found out that the inflow pipe on my fluval 306 had a crack and it was badly leaking all over my floor. After some searching, I found your video and instead of paying the $22 for one fluval tube from Amazon, I went to Home Depot and replicated your video. This works. The only problem I have is now I need new inlet and outlet attachments, as the tank edge clips don’t fit the new pipes. Do you have suggestions for the lily pipes?
Im 2 years late to this video but i had thought and wanted your opinion so i hope you see this. I plan to replace the corrigated black tubes with clear, in the dimensions you described but im curious if on the outlet i could install a "y" or a valve of some sort to run water out of the filter to perform water changes vs using a Siphon and how id get water back in in reverse using the same valve.
Great video exactly what i was looking for. I do have a question regarding the Lilly pipes. Which size/diameter did you buy to fit the vinyl tubing? If you could answer this, that would be great...thanks in advance
instructions on the fluval say keep the hoses as vertical as possible and remove as much slack as possible, wondering if you've noticed any down side to running your hoses like this and with the extra slack.
The aquastop valve/hose connector should never require any type of mechanical wrench other than the "hand" wrench! If one has a bad case of sweaty hands, you could get a pair of rubber clad work gloves to wear while attempting to tighten the hose to the filter. These plastic hose fittings are designed to be tightened by hand only. This is why they constructed the ends of the Fluval hose with a soft binding rubber much like that of vinyl hose.
Agree , that’s why I say hand tight. Should never force it very much. I wouldn’t tighten it more than with my hand with a pair of rubber gloves would do, with a wrench. I prefer wrench and some common sense.
I did this for the hoses with my Fluval 407. It worked great. Only thing is the clear vinyl tubing went cloudy after boiling, and a day after installing the tubing my aquarium has cloudy water. So, something evidently came out of the tubing during boiling... Fish seem fine though.
@@AquaMayne About 10 min. But in retrospect I also added Seachem Flourish Excel, which is known to cloud water so perhaps that was it. Things have cleared up now.
@@wu4life yes the size of hose in this video will work fine. The aqua stop valve (the thing the hoses go into) is the same size on all 06-07 filters. Just confirmed by measuring my 201, 206 and 407 aqua stop valves
Thanks for this video. Just purchased two fluval 407s and glass lily pipes. Managed to find this hose at my local irrigation supply shop. Are you running in line heaters?
a common misconception that the pipes need a "tight seal" they are under no pressure as the ends of the pipes are open, an average fit will be enough to be watertight...
The main thing would be silicone tubing is almost double the cost of vinyl tubing and it tends to offer less crush resistance, so the tubing would contribute more to backpressure if it were to kink or slightly crush. However, there are some thick walled silicone tubes that are not prone to kinking so they would be the type to use in this situation
