Brilliant! I found you via Stefanie Pettis and I subscribed immediately. You are a phenomenal artist and teacher. Looking forward to watching more of your videos 🙂
Hi Abby! Wow...what a beautiful thing to say, girl...thank you so much for your generosity of spirit, my friend. I've subscribed to Purple Cottage Crafts, as well - you have a wealth of experience to share! 😘
See, faux finishes are like magic to me, Laurie. I'm greedy - I want all the lovely, expensive, unattainable things! But, I can't afford 'em - and lots of other folks can't either. Faux is not only a way to bring that sense of opulence into our lives, but to gain self respect during the process - the sense of accomplishment that I get from turning cheap plastic anything into something that has a bit of soul is beyond precious. I'm just hoping to help a few other folks get that same feeling of accomplishment - because it is powerful! You are powerful! 😘
Wonderful video! I was so surprised that the styrofoam was able to take the Super 777 and hot glue without melting. I've stayed away from using foam for the last 10 years because I tried to spray paint a project I made and it melted it like hot wax!
Hey Cindy! You are oh-so-right about styrofoam - it DOES react to the chemicals in spray adhesives, etc...this foam was that 'squishy' kind that electronics are sometimes packaged in. Wish I knew what it's called - it's TOUGH! xox
I am a metalsmith who is always looking for rustic finish ideas...I have been using a heat tool to adhere embossing powder onto my metal for a grainy effect...but I like the alcohol effect also.
Oh, that sounds gorgeous, Flower Proprietress! Have you seen the new line of Baked Texture Embossing Powders by Seth Apter??? Girl, they are gonna be so good for effects like you describe...
I think I will keep my coffee grinder for coffee, but love results of your project, I would have a took it little further and grew any sedum low grower cactus would survive on the moss what do think give me your view on that hun xxx
I love the idea of growing succulents or cacti in these containers - it's totally doable, but you'd need to use a special potting mix, Sylvia. Go for it! xox
Hi I want to change a aluminum brief case (silver) Into a black/ brown with gold wax on top What paint would you recommend to go about I still want it to look professional still Your hints will be welcome
Ooohhh...I LOVE the idea of this project, Colleen! It's gonna be super cool. Now, there are ways to transform this surface: BUT, there isn't any process I know of that will completely guard against the kinds of abuse that most briefcases get - anticipate that scratches and chips will form over time... To begin, though, you'll need a Spray Primer formulated especially for Aluminum. Make sure to follow all of the manufacturer's instructions, and this will be exactly the right base for that resplendent new finish: amzn.to/2DLMGM1
@@Thicketworks thank you for getting back to me sooo quickly I will try your suggestion , l I will try to completely transform the silver its a bit too in your face silver Thank you
I have 'craft only' kitchen appliances too, when you can get a coffee grinder for under $10 at Kmart & craft supplies are so overpriced here, it makes sense to use kitchen supplies. Aldi weekly Special Buys help stock my craft room at much more affordable prices - I have silicone spatulas & a cake decorating spatula in with my painting palette knives; silicone pastry brush for gluing large items (glue peels right off); a bargain hand mixer with bread dough attachments for making paper clay; cheap Teflon oven sheets replace expensive craft mats & those silicone oven sheets with pyramid shapes are way better for doming resin than the doming trays I once bought from the resin company. My recent fave is a huge array of double ended fondant tools for under $3 - why would I pay over $25 for just 3 Sculpey tools?.LOL (Edit: Instead of white paint for this, try using "Zinc White" it's more transparent & you don't damage the polymer binders by watering it down so much. Watered down washes are only stable on porous surfaces, on non-porous, using 30% water or more causes underbinding).
Joanne - it probably won't surprise you to learn that I'm exactly the same way! I have those cheap silicone baking tools (including the pastry brushes), the coffee grinder, food processor, Teflon oven sheets, silicone mats for doming! So helpful when we allow ourselves to imagine alternate uses for the things that surround us. Good info on Zinc White - thank you! xoxo
haha! The finish was fun to experiment with, Donna...and moss is just one of those thingies that I find useful, no matter what decade we find ourselves in! 😉

Hey Tonya! Thanks, girl...and WOW! I adore the finish you created...in fact, the step where you dry brush using a car wash brush? Brilliant...and the mineral spirits 'water spots' - totally cool! Thank you for sharing your amazing work, my friend. xox
