Mr Lahey is right in a way. The internet is nothing in itself, it's neutral. What the TV's got as a huge advantage is that it usually has big powerful companies pushing agendas behind it. They can make you believe what they want even if you only watch one hour of TV per day, they can easily back up all the information they bring you. Meanwhile the internet is huge and deep, if you don't know what you're searching for and how to search for it, it brings you nothing of interest. Or even worse, it can bring you misinformation which is more dangerous than what watching too much TV can do to you.
The internet will never "win" by itself, you as an individual can win using the internet, even a group of people can meet their goals with it, no matter how wrong they are. But at the end of the day, no matter how many polls, requests, petitions, etc, that someone makes on the internet, it will never beat the groups of power behind the media, because the internet has no more power than you alone or a limited group of people put behind it.
