That was one of the biggest embarrassments the sport of boxing has ever taken. They waited until the Masvidal-Diaz fight was done, in order to start the main event.
12 years later Mayweather is fighting UA-camr Logan Paul. Mike Tyson and Roy Jones just had an exhibition match. Old legends of the sport the only guys who can bring in the boxing views. UFC still growing exponentially. Boxing slowly dying.
UFC fans have been saying boxing is dying for the past 20 years when their biggest star of all time had to come to boxing for he’s biggest paycheck. I love both sports but boxing will never die. I wish they stopped caring so much about going undefeated in boxing though, that’s what I like about the UFC.. but make no mistake when big boxing fights happen the world stops. Nobody hates boxing, its alright, but the rampant fixing, cheating, and guys ducking fights against an opponent they're afraid of has all made boxing a tired, played out sport that barely moves the needle. UFC is almost incomprehensibly successful because it's so ahead of the curve. It has some of the best athletes/ martial artists in the world competing in a fresh , multifaceted, dynamic, impressive real fight, and people absolutely love it. Its changing the sports world. Boxing is fragmented across multiple promotions all around the same size, and is largely fighter driven rather than promotion driven, its also never been PPV driven to the extent the UFC is. John McGuinness You really think that the UFC is gonna reflect their pay based on Floyd? He got paid what he got paid because of the numbers. Conor was still the biggest star and currently is a bigger star than Floyd
Money doesnt determine star power. Fans, hype, attention and crowds prove star power. Conor was the main attraction in the fight. You can judge this by the weigh ins and conferences. Nobody who turned up cared about Floyd lol
John McGuinness If Conor was in boxing he would be easily making 100 mil a fight. Thats because in boxing u get a bigger piece of the pie and Conors piece would be huge when looking at his numbers. They may happen less frequently than UFC fights but when they do happen it tends to be bigger, and that’ll never stop.
Fury/Wilder 2 did 1.2 million PPV buys in February btw. Also ive been an MMA fan for 20 years and this "MMA is growing" thing is so overplayed and inaccurate. MMA peaked in popularity in America around 10 years ago, it has grown somewhat internationally after that but its not anymore popular now globally than it was 5 years ago when Conor and Ronda were there. The biggest fights in the 7 weeks (and 6 cards) since then have been Felder/RDA, Glover/Santos, Hall/Silva and Figuereido/Perez. In the same time frame boxing had Spence/Garcia, Crawford/Brook, Joyce/Dubois, Tank/LSC and Tyson/RJJ. Yeah, he admitted to liking mma now
@Don Jon @Don Jon Oh really and when did Boxing start? Compare that with MMA, it takes time to create a fanbase like boxing. Boxing is doing better but it's numbers are going down. Not sure why you think that is a valid argument. I only watched boxing from 2000 till 2017. Then I discovered MMA. I stopped with boxing completely, martial arts is so much more than only boxing.
@Don Jon I see your point but you are to focused on here and now. MMA still will grow many people like me didn't know orgs like UFC exist. MMA has still allot of time and it doesn't really need stars I'm talking about martial arts in general is just more exciting to watch than only a small portion of martial arts like boxing.

UFC barely had its first 20 million dollar gate in company history this past year. Boxing had 4 last year alone 😂😂😂. Ryan Garcia vs Tank is the biggest combat sports PPV of the past 2 yrs. Besides them, it’s only Jake Paul that’s bringing in more spectators to watch the sport with his bs shenanigans cause it’s dying. The ufc has way more popular fighters that’s why fighters get paid less but it’s only growing.
@@TWO_THOUSAND_SEAVY_HEAVY Apples to oranges comparison. The UFC is run more like the WWE, its a brand and a powerhouse in itself independent of the fighters. They monopolize their sport, pay peanuts to the fighters, sell UFC branded merch, video games etc and throw every single title fight on PPV. So yeah no shit they make a ton of money. Boxing is fragmented across multiple promotions all around the same size, and is largely fighter driven rather than promotion driven, its also never been PPV driven to the extent the UFC is. Basically the way the UFC is structured gives it more ways to monetize what they do and sell a brand rather than just fighters/fights. The fact the UFC is still reporting record revenues at a time where almost half of their events take place in the Apex center wioth no crowd should tell you that its not as simple as how you're presenting it.
Regardless of your figures though. Reality is the 3 biggest PPVs of last year and biggest PPV of this year so far are boxing matches. There were 3 boxing events in 2023 alone that did a bigger gate than any UFC event too. AJ, Fury and Canelo all have multiple fights that did a bigger live crowd than any UFC card ever too.
