BuB195 32 here. Been doing this without thinking about it this way, but I really like the way this is explained. I like to rotate between the rounds. I like to run a 3 and then run a 1 to catch a breathe before going for a 2 or a 3.
I always start with my partner in the mount on me, always have since day 1 of training. And their Level will vary from 1,2,&3 each class, ideally. After being a fighter, I knew to establish a very solid defensive base which gives me the confidence to weather the storm, exhaust, get offensive and aggressive, and then finish. I roll with all 3 Levels for different purposes and reasons, whether I'm working defense or offense that class. Great vid, thank you!
Thanks! Since I'm the oldest, lightest male at my gym, I'm usually Level 3 rolls and working on my defense. Professor complimented my guard retention the other day. But the few times I tap them big boys, oh it's so sweet!
Awesome! I would love to speak with you more about your journey! I'm currently collecting helpful information by speaking with students. Would you be open to speaking with me? If so, please shoot me an email at chasenhill@gmail.com. I hope we can speak soon! Keep training hard!
52 yr 220lbs (muscular) blue belt. It seems that this is pretty accurate. I often have to tap because my max heart rate with 20-30 year old blue belts. The cardio max heart rate is the deal buster. 220-age is 100% your heart rate. 1 minute of max heart rate can lead to V fib. That’s a shockable rhythm but generally ruins your day.
I'll try this approach in the future! I generally play way more defence than offence in my game, and struggle with taking the attacking route. Maybe this will give me some new insight. Great video!
excellent video 👍 My professor told me the exact same thing. You need to train with all different levels to improve. Very useful information! 🤙 I'm white belt no stripes yet, been training for 2 months, 5 days per week, sometimes even 6.
You and me both! I've recently opened a few new spots for my Jiu-Jitsu acceleration group where I go far more in depth on this topic. If you are interested in please reach out at chasen@chasenhill.com 👍 I love speaking with students to offer any help I can give.
Hi Chasen, this is great content and aligns with something I've seen in UA-cam around circa 12 pounds is a belt and 10 years is a belt. So a 40 year old white belt versus a 30 year old is equivalent to say a white versus a blue belt. I like your levels analogy better though especially when considering training partners 👍
Wow very nice work. Very new at 63 in the bjj game . Not bad shape big guy at 245. My question is how do i go about it with level 1 and not being an idiot cus i may have 20/30/40 pounds on someone. Im not looking to win just cus of size. That won’t play off . The video has been very helpful in determining how to make better use of my mat time. Thanks 🙏
Hey Chasen. What advice do you have for a relatively small academy when the most probable outcome is a 2 or a 1 for the instructor? Also, given that you are the most proficient in the academy as a student, what recommendations do you have for a plan?
Hi professor. Awesome info to become better in jiu-jitsu. I book an appointment. Excited. But how much is this? A fee is a little hard to do right now. Hopefully we can still consult. Thanks Brother.
i am on my second attempt at bjj. i trained from jan-march this year, i manage 3 months, did not learn much. i am 58 and 180 lbs. i found myself getting pushed to the side and left out with no training partner. i joined last week to gracie barra, i done 2 classes so far. white belt no prior experience
just stick with it. ask your teammates how they do techniques that you don't understand. watch youtube and get acquainted with the sport. just keep at it. we have all been there. ive been in your exact position. seek out someone to help you out. just keep showing up. never quit
Im 55 280lbs post 2 year quarantine, blue belt... was about 240 lbs before quarantine. Have been training again for 2 months. When you say domination are you talking about subs or position... because some people dominate me position wise but dont usually sub me. Different people sub me easily.
Which training level do you use the most?
Level 3. Because that's the vast majority of my training partners.

Fantastic! Keep training smart and you will go far! What belt are you?
@@ChasenHill 4 stripe white on the cusp of blue. Training more than a year now.

Awesome! Thanks for checking out the video ☺️
good stuff! i guess I use a bell curve when training. maybe a bit more on the level 1-2 because i like doing more active drilling
Great Advice! I wish this was taught more often, there would be less Blue Belts disappearing.

You didn't attend our session 😭
@@ChasenHill I thought I had to put up lump sum of money. Are you having another session?

What to do when there are only levels 2.5 and 3?
As a 200 lb white belt at age 53, I train at levels 2 and 3 mostly.
Yessir! That will be most of your training partners for bit! Learning how to train and use them! They are powerful resources!
BB as an abbreviation could cover 60% of the belts in BJJ.
