Breaking the role here, there's not "real Gorillaz", they are just a cartoon band, every member of the people that make the music changes for the next album (except for the singer, but I mean... It's the singer), the reall Gorillaz are 2-D (singer), Noodle (guitarist), Murdoc (bassist) and Russel (drummer). The creators of Gorillaz wanted to show that the music industry doesn't care about real people, so much so that the band members don't need to be humans to make sucess.
That said... the gorillaz episode of cribs is fucking epic (cribs being a weird mtv show in the late 90s about the houses of music stars). I think the Gorillaz crib has: '33 or 35 rooms and its own portal to hell'... as stated in the stats blurb

Even though they're not "real" there personalities are real n so are the many problems they faced( murdoc had a bath salt addiction, 2d had bulimia i think, noodle had really bad anxiety and russel had some kinda sleep related problem
This band was a fantastic experiment, that hasn't really been recreated since. It's essentially 1 guy, that colabs with different artists every album to make something unique, funky, and creatively inspirational. It's about not idolizing the people, or judging them by how they look, or what race they are. But just all about the great music.
The rapper in Clint Eastwood is Del The Funky Homosapien, and in Feelgood Inc. the rapper's are part of De La Soul.

The rap group in this song is actually the group De La Soul. The Gorillaz is technically only 2 artists, one that animates and one that makes music. The Gorillaz tend to grab a large variety of features for their tapes.

Stakes Is High is a masterpiece of an album. Overlooked by many. The intro alone to that album is genius.
Gorillaz being a virtual band, they have always worked with multiple artists and singers for different songs / albums. There isn't really a person behind each band member, 2-d / Murdoc / Russel / Noodle. By being unassociated with 1 artist, it allows the music to ever grow and ever change, while being held together by Damon the leader singer.
If you don't move when this song comes on, you're dead. 🔥💞

Gorillaz are the first animation-only band. I remember they "performed" at some awards show years ago and the cartoon band members were holograms projected onto the stage.

Did the original Jem and the Holograms ever appear in non-cartoon form? I know David Seville appeared in live-action with the Chipmunks early on, and Josie and the Pussycats had a photo album cover and there was weirdly enough a live-action video made for "Sugar, Sugar" by The Archies, but I'm not aware of any live-action Jem and the Holograms material before the reboot movie nobody saw. Granted, I don't know if they even released a soundtrack for the cartoon, much less a single, so maybe they just don't meet the standard of qualification for lack of charting or something.
In any case, Gorillaz weren't the first cartoon band to chart, but maybe the first to both chart and never appear in live-action form.

Saw this song on MTV when it first came out. I was just a little kid and that windmill scene just seemed almost magical. I know it sounds dumb but I was just wide eye in wonder at the time. The way the music hits and the visuals, it just struck a chord with me

Damon does the music, Jamie does the art and animation, Remi does the production and is the director, drummer & voice actor for Russel, though Damon gets the most credit for Gorillaz, the other members do counter when it comes to production.
Gorillaz is one of those things that you cannot fit into one genre. From punk, to rap, reggae, gospel, rock, blues, theres so many influences they pull from. Damon Albarn (who is the lead singer of Blur), is the musical mastermind of all of this. This "band", or rather musical project is an amazing thing to get into because it seems to never end. There are documentaries on each album, and you can see that Damon picks and chooses what musicians and artists he wants to work on the album. In one interview he said he wants Gorillaz to be that way, and surpass him when hes long gone. Its a project meant to be collaborative and huge. Damon and Jamie were inspired to do this because they were fed up with how manufactured music and MTV was at the time. So with this group, you are presented with cartoons, while wondering who the "real" people are. Its just such excellent commentary on the music industry as well. It never is JUST the artist you are seeing succeed. No one wonders about who else it is. Its everyone behind the scenes making it possible. I can write a whole essay on this i swear but i think i got enough out lol

the girl playing guitar on the windmill is a teenage version of noodle who was a kid in the clint eastwood video. their vids have stories that link together to create the background of the band, in reality the only member that is permanent actually has another band, if you wanna check them out listen to song 2 by blur, hes the singer of both

A lot of the band's story is told outside of the videos. Making it more confusing is that the outside-the-video parts treat the videos as a fictional creation, just music videos made by the (fictional) band.

My favorite 2 gorillaz songs as a hardcore fan are El Manana and On Melancholy Hill.
They aren't club bangers, and there are certainly other tracks that are deeper (rhinestone eyes) or more musically impressive (like 5:4 or Hong Kong), but these 2 strike the perfect balance for me.

I'm pretty old, so sometimes don't relate to "rap" - b/c a lot of it seems to be just beat & message.. without melody - but when I get a tune to go with that beat, I can really relate -- lol - that's why I also like Outkast - they got some melodies...

As everyone has said the creator and lead singer of Gorillaz Inc is Damon Albarn who was also the frontman of a group called Blur. My favourite Blur song is Song 2 and thoroughly recommend it, but "Coffee and TV", "Parklife" and "Girls and Boys" are some of their well know tracks.

One of my fav bands; a *cartoon* band still blows my mind to this day. All their vids are worth the watch tbh. Fun fact, all of the characters age in real time. Noodle (from the windmill), right now, looks *very* different compared to the 1st few vids you've watched, she's 30 now and she was 8 since the start.

Off the album Demon Days you still got "Dirty Harry" for singles and I would recommend "All Alone" (Roots Manuva spittin bars on this is AMAZING!) and "All Alone" is a great make song to make you wanna move. On the album Gorillaz I'd love to see you do "Tomorrow Comes Today" or "Slow Country" they're both chill vibes to lean back and fire one up to or "Rock The House" for some more Del The Funky Homosapien
