  • How often do you hang? 🦥 Hanging from a bar is becoming more popular because it works. It helps release stiff back and shoulder muscles and improves the connection from your hand to your spine.
But another worthy form of hanging is the horizontal hang. This variation puts more stretch on your lat muscles and even helps you stretch the side of your torso, targeting those tricky-to-release muscles like the QL, obliques, and intercostals. Plus you don’t need a bar or anything overhead, just a sturdy object at hip height to hold onto.
Next time you wake up with a stiff back or need to stretch out your spine after hunching over a computer, give the horizontal hang a try. Let us know how it goes in the comments below. #shorts #youtubeshorts

I'm an inpatient Physiotherapist so we do a lot of assisted movements with patients. I stretch like this at least once a day at the nurses station and get asked what the heck I am doing but it feels amazing for your muscles. With that said, if you have back pain that isn't going away with stretching and plenty of movement, seek advice from a physiotherapist or doctor cause not all back pain is muscular.

Interesting. I came here to comment that I inadvertently discovered this horizontal hang years ago at the laundry drying machine 😅 With the door open and with my grip at the groove where the filter rests, I’ll hang and pull my body back, which not only feels good as a stretch but also provides relief as my thoracic pops and cracks - incredibly satisfying! Just note, there is a subtle technique to it..

I would say listen to your body. That is what I do. If anything hurts then I ease back.
Personally, I try to get these in at least three times a day. Each set is 2 to 4 times. And then I don't hang very long maybe 20 seconds or so.
I incorporate these in with other movement snacks throughout the day.
Strength side is very cool and I have incorporated some of their stretches for my morning stretch routine. And they always promote to start off slow and ease into things.

    • @justaguy328

I had this issue too. Its something you need to do consistently because you're also training your nervous system to not contract those muscles and let them relax which is the hardest part because you'll stretch and get some relief but quickly your nervous system has become so used to activating certain muscles it'll start pulling on those muscles again without you even realizing it. But if you do it consistently eventually your nervous system is also trained and it'll allow those muscles to relax. That's when the pain should subside. Hope this helps.

Omg I do this all the time!! I started doing it years ago when I worked in a hospital lab by grabbing the sink and hanging while waiting for my microscope slides to stain! It always pops my hips, and way back then before I started wearing barefoot shoes, it helped so much to alleviate my back pain. I don't have back problems anymore but I still do it sometimes because it feels so good. Glad to know it's actually a great stretch!

I’ve done this for my shoulders. I was trying EVERYTHING, every position, every massage. Depending on what kind of or where the pain is, of course.

I bought a TRX for working out while away from home. Once I got the app downloaded it has a bunch of these deep full body stretches. Has helped my alignment and strength tremendously.

I used to do this when I worked in a kitchen. It helped a lot to stretch after standing prepping food for hours.

    I do this constantly.
After 20+yrs with severe neck, back and shoulder injuries I’ve learned that just about anything can be used to alleviate pressure. A doorway can be a godsend for tense or angry neck/shoulder/rotator cuffs.
