There was a wavetable daughter board made by Roland which was just basically an sc55 that you could have just added to your sound blaster or clone at the time
I've not listened to each of these record versions, but in comparison with Gravis or Adlib SC-88 is the most musical and funky IMO. So powerful! Many thanks for sharing! I've recently refreshed opentdd (with original ost installed) and I'm in heaven again :) Is there any possibility to add this ost version to the game?
I know this is a late reply but whatever. So the thing is, if TTD uses proprietary soundfiles (like Chrys Sawyer's Locomotion), then you should replace each of the original tracks with a correctly encoded version. But if TTD uses midi soundtrack, then you should simply install a third-party midi driver in Windows and use a SC-88 soundfont for the tracks to be played in a similar fashion to what heard in this video.
I reworked a lot of the music playback code in OpenTTD a couple of years ago. This includes being able to read the music files from the DOS version of the game (those from the Windows version were already supported) and improved the output to external MIDI sound modules. Yes, you can have OpenTTD play the music (almost) like this, if you have a software or hardware MIDI synth that emulates or is an SC-88. 😀
Finally the correct version with exactly same sound i had when i played as a kid.
everything that isn't sb awe32 gm isn't the right one. sry.
@konakonaa You mean these ones? For this game?
that is the most accurate version. I have this playing in the backround while i play transport fever!

You can just play it in the background with a regular player.
