I think what George said was that Anakin's potential got significantly cut off meaning what he could have been had he applied himself properly... When Anakin got immolated he simply lost that potential and hit a ceiling of 80% of Palpatine. But its wrong to say that Vader was weaker in the force than Anakin infact Vader was significantly stronger than he was at Knightfall it was simply his ceiling which had dropped
I think he is actually weaker because he is living with a life support system. The guy can't even breath effortlessly and in any sport or fighting the breath is the most essential. Basically he is a handicaped Anakin. A Jedi skills comes from the Force and their physical training. Darth Vader Physical ability is like 50% of any typical Jedi, so his Force ability has been used to make up for this handicap. Additionally, think about the fact that he need a machine to breath and a life support armor. Either he is constantly distracted by the pain while fighting and using the force to fight, or he is on pain killer all the time and it dull his performance.
Vader was a better duelist than Anakin for three reasons: 1) Vader had a more well-rounded and versatile fighting style rather than rely on one form and being a slave to its shortcomings and being able to handle different situations and something that was best suited for him. 2) Vader was a far better tactician than Anakin. He knew when to cut loose or when to be patient or to use a fight as a distraction to achieve a larger goal rather than go into a situation with reckless abandon like Anakin would do. 3) Finally, Vader could control his emotions and think logically under pressure. Anakin would get overly emotional and let his intensity overwhelm his opponents. That may work sometimes, but when he met someone who was able to keep their cool, that aggression and arrogance worked against him.

Given that Anakin focused less on his force powers (and probably took them for granted because of his high midichlorian count) I think it is more accurate to say that Vader, post limb lost, developed his mastery of his force powers. His telepathic range had increased from Attack of the Clones to Empire Strikes Back. Also, during Shadows of the Empire, he began healing his lungs through intense meditation in the dark side, able to breathe on his own without any equipment for a minute at a time, though this was highly taxing. Even though Vader lost a lot of his potential and talent, he developed his force skillset through training.

Vader would have been virtually invincible if his armour, helmet and face mask (plus a cover plate for his control panel) were made of the Mandolorian alloy beskar.

Yeah, I did too! I remember a few hundred subscribers when I subscribed. I knew he would pull off having a great channel. He’s not close minded to Star Wars, he listens to any and all lore and breaks everything down in great detail and stays positive about everything. He doesn’t bash on anything. Vader’s Force pourer grows passively with time and age so he would become more power full than Anakin at some point before A New Hope. He could probably use the force to increase his speed the same way old force users do to make up for their weak bodies
He incorporated a two handed form of makashi as well and become surgically precise with his strikes..
Original trilogy Vader would play Episode III Vader. He knows everything he knows and a lot more. Is a lot stronger too. Timing beats speed.

@@Leondrius Projecting at it's finest xD, I'm not emotional at all, it's just always hilarious watching people taking the OT fights vs the PT fights and trying to use whatever excuses they can to justify how the OT characters fight to anywhere near the level of PT characters. I mean, you can, again, watch Ep3 and Ep6 and tell me where you think Vader is competing at all with Vader pre lava. Sure, you can use books all you want, they aren't canon, and GL himself is a loser that sided with Bob Iger, so his word means nothing for Star Wars as it is now.
Vader was beaten by some middle aged man throwing rocks, any Padawan can throw rocks, as Rey in Ep8 proves, she'd have beaten Vader just with the one shot she had at the end of Ep8, and she had no training.
Emotional? Nah bro, I'm purely logical based on the facts presented in the movies, and current Disney canon. If you wanna prove me wrong, that's fair, show me a single fight in the movies or shows where Vader outperforms Ep3 Anakin, I'll wait.

Suited Vader is a much more experienced and skilled fighter than Anakin. He's more patient, powerful, and precise. All of Anakin's speed and power wasn't able to do anything at all to Obi-Wan, yet suited Vader was clearly more of a threat. There was no 30-minute stalemate. He could've even finished Obi-Wan if he had been more careful. His suit weighs him down, but that doesn't mean he's necessarily slow moving his arms and swinging a saber. He could definitely overpower Anakin, as his cybernetic implants made him more physically stronger than ever, and his Force powers were as well. Vader already compensated for his lack of mobility in his fighting style so I don't know how you think it's an issue.
@@ZenKrio By the way, Vader tanked the rocks where Anakin would've been busted up with a concussion and broken bones. What did him was the damage to his life-support system and the jump slash after he was disoriented.
Vader reaching his peak after Mustafar was better all around. Yes his Force potential was reduced. He was able to to things that Anakin did not Force wise. Anakin was far more acrobatic but functional agility doesn't require somersaults in combat. Vader was a smarter martial artist & overall warrior. The novel by James Luceno "Dark Lord The Rise of Darth Vader" is one good example.
Kenobi threw rocks at him and beat him easily, and this was Obi Wan after taking like 10 years off of training at all, it was akin to watching Rey beat Luke...
@@ZenKrio questionable overwriting decisions by upper management aside, that show implied that he gets a nerf whenever he is conflicted. It is why he didn't kill Obi-Wan twice when he had the chance, and why he holds back significantly when fighting Luke. It was only after their battle that he started to fully embrace the monster we see in episode 4.
Vader made up for his lack of acrobatics, with being a foot taller, and longer cybernetic limbs, and did not loose reflexes, just didn’t jump around the way he used to due to the pain in the suit.
In addition to the pain due to the suit, he could not move quickly as cybernetics was heavy and uncomfortable, restricting movement and his armor weighed 120 kg. Although there were advantages that his cybernetic arms were physically stronger. And the new legs had their advantages, although it was necessary to monitor their condition.

Vader surpasses Sidious with the blade. There is strong case that Darth Vader is the top duelist in cannon.

What? Anakin and Vader lost a fair amount of fights. It's the reason he wears the suit. And why he had a mechanical arm even before he was put ion the suit. Then Obi beat him down again in the series. Then an untrained Luke beat him too.
Vader masters all forms as well. However, Vader keeps fighting, and sparring. Sidious became complacent with dueling after order 66.
Vader/Anakin has the most impressive feats. He beat Dooku, who embarrassed Kenobi twice. Obi wan gave up on the Death Star against Vader. Vader didn’t want to kill Luke over Endor.

You forgot to mention that Vader also used elements of form 2 into his combat form as well. He was known for using one hand most of the time unless if an opponent was his equal. And because form 2 required balanced footwork and economy, Vader used this range of motion for his movement. More or less similar to how Qui-Gon Jinn used form 4 without using traditional acrobatics such as flips and cartwheels.
If only Vader could have overcome his mental block to unlock his full potential. Yes he lost power power according to Lucas after dismemberment. But according to the same source, his loss was again mental as said by Palpatine. His power still lurked, waiting to be called upon.

He improved but if he didn’t lose and end up in the suit Anakin would have became so experienced and learned to use and tap into his 100% of his power he would have been ridiculous. If he got to his potential he would have been unbeatable. You forgot the most important detail... Vader's plot armor. The only reason Vader's able to do anything at all is because his opponents magically become stupid and/or let themselves be killed. I can beat Vader a hundred times over again if I had the virtue of him being dumbed down to the level of all his opponents. That or simply exiting a door and then coming back the next frame saying I defeated an army of millions or something.
If it happens off camera or if his enemies let themselves be killed, it's plot armor.
If he were physically, mentally in better shape, without internal conflict, not restrained, then this would be a completely different conversation. Even Lucas said that Anakin would have become stronger than Sidious without conceding to the emperor those 20%. But then there would no longer be the Vader that the SW fans loved.

I think your right in some sense. But I also think that Anakin was a better fighter. Vader did become a lot more mindful though. But it it's still probably accurate that If Vader was not physically and mentally held back from his defeat on Mustafar he would have become the most powerful being in the entire star wars universe. Maybe even more if he did suffer defeat but did not suffer the physical injuries he would still have the mentality of Vader explained in this video and the physical capacity of Anakin.
If Anakin and Vader somehow fought and they didn’t have lightsabers and it was a contest of the force, Vader would wipe the floor with him. Same with lightsaber. Vaders power is stronger than Anakin, but not as strong as he could have been if he never lost to Obiwan. Remember it’s not just potential that reflects your strength.

He lost to Kenobi ten years later. He never tried to overthrow Palpatine. He underperformed compared with Palpatine's expectations of him, so much so that Palpatine sought to replace him by the time of The Return of the Jedi. Vader is very beatable.
No. If you're talking about the first fight between Vader and Kenobi from the series, then according to the original scenario, the dark lord would have won their second battle. But this idea was abandoned because the series is not about him. On the death star, Kenobi realized that he could no longer defeat Vader and decided to sacrifice himself for Luke instead of being killed by his opponent. The Dark Lord is not easy to defeat. Sidious was looking for a disciple to become his new body for transmigration spirit in the future. How he changed clones in the Dark Empire, and wanted to move into the body of Luke in episode 6 and Rey in episode 9. I think it you already understand that the dark lord in his current state was not a very suitable vessel that could not even use lightning, since living hands and the lack of cybernetics sensitive to electricity are needed. If you've read the comics, you know that Palpatine saved Anakin and made him an apprentice, since all his work went in vain if he died and it would take time to find another student. As it was, the emperor needed a warrior and a servant to carry out his orders. Vader defeated all candidates or sent them on assignments from which his competitors did not return. And the dark lord himself proved his loyalty over and over again. Sidious also wanted to replace Vader because he began to feel that there was light in his student's soul, at the emperor's was a vision of betrayal, and no one canceled the rule of two. But in the end, Palpatine miscalculated believing that his faithful golem was already stuck on the dark side and would not be able to return to the light. Moreover, he underestimated the power of love and a person who is ready to do anything to save and protect loved ones. Love led Anakin to the dark side, and it brought him back.

No. Anakin is weaker because he is impulsive, loses self-control, makes mistakes, does not analyze, his style is no longer so versatile, physically weaker than the dark lord, including. Anakin list of encounters mostly victorious. Vader is just a very long list of failures, ultimate movie villain? Nope even failed in his own franchise. In my opinion Palpatine is a superb character whose story is told throughout the whole of the live action main story movies (the 9). Ian McDiarmid absolutely made for the part brings a completely immersive character. There aren’t too many actors who make you feel as if they are the character rather than a performer portraying a part. Two such actors, both in Star Wars are obviously Ian McDiarmid and also Michael Sheard (Admiral Ozzel) 👌
The force had its own plan for Anakin, which it followed. Just like everyone else. Anakin did a great job with his role by fulfilling the purpose of setting the balance. Moreover, he defeated the Sith by surpassing Sidious and becoming a ghost of the force. And Sidius only knew how to move a spirit into clones, without achieving true immortality. Besides, not every dark lord could return back from the dark side to the light side. Vader is a wonderful multifaceted character with his own story and tragedy, who has learned a lot and changed through his thorny path.
Both Mace and Yoda were better duelists than Anakin too despite technically being weaker in the force overall.

Youth is such a thing. But both negative and positive experiences are useful because a person learns and becomes stronger, trying not to repeat his mistakes anymore. You can't say that about an early naive guy in love.

Anakin was better at the lightsaber. Vader was better at the force.
Vader's hybrid fencing style is more versatile and effective than Anakin's 5th form. Vader is taller, physically stronger, more resilient, with an increased pain threshold, more experienced and calculating, has learned patience and analysis. Knowing the young man himself, he will understand what he is going to do and counterattack, exhaust and win. Unless, of course, dark lord decide to play and not crush right away.

Vader has already fought fast opponents and won even while wearing a suit. Moreover, he has developed his own tactics against them. Both Anakin and Vader are good duelists in their own way.

He wasn't, you can watch Ep3 and Ep6 and see with basic human eyes who's better. Obi Won was also able to beat Vader effortlessly in his show compared to Ep3. Any child that can throw rocks can beat Vader in a fight, as Obi Won proved..
In the Kenobi series, Vader was still getting used to the costume and the new fighting style. Think of the late Vader and you will understand that he has become more powerful over the years. According to the original script in Obi-Wan, Vader would have won the second duel with the teacher according to the original script, but the series is not about him, unfortunately.

@@ZenKrio Do not forget that Vader was also not in very good moral shape, as Palpatine told him. He was angry at seeing Kenobi and still couldn't control his anger as well as he did later. During their fight on the death star, Kenobi can no longer defeat Vader, recognizing in the legends that the dark lord has become stronger since their last meeting and has succeeded as a fighter by improving attack, defense, gaining new abilities and learning new techniques. And Obi-Wan chose to sacrifice himself for Luke, who was younger, had a better chance. Kenobi wouldn't use the dark side to defeat his opponent. And it was not very convenient for the battle, since he and Anakin had been training together for a long time and knew each other well.

sorry but this is garbage. im sticking to the real OG stuff and saying that vader who faught like a grandparent against ben in episode 4, or got manhandled against a not very much trained luke in episode 6 is supposed to be a better fighter than episode 3 anakin is just nonssense.

So you're basing it off a fight between 2 old people that knew each other well and Luke tapping into the Dark Side and defeating a CONFLICTED Vader?
Maybe because it was filmed in the 80s and 70s they didn’t have the technology to make the fights look as good as in the prequels and no Vader wipes the floor with anakin and your acting like Luke wouldn’t beat anakin you said your sticking to the real “og” stuff then you should know George himself has said Luke is the most powerful Jedi ever Vader is more powerful, mastered all lightsaber forms, more attuned to his emotions, stronger and robust Vader would wipe the floor with anakin
@@gamingfusion419 the prequel fights look better from a cinematography pov. However og trilogy Vader uses actual kendo and fencing techniques. Even based on what we see…Vader wins.
