  • Travis reacts to the sixth episode of Season 3 of Star Trek: Picard, "The Bounty." I was smiling through 75% of this episode, and I'm not ashamed.

Terry Matalas really knows TNG. He used even remote TNG lore to move Pic season 3 forward. And the callbacks to TOS trek was awesome. The "No challengling has ever harmed another" principle went out the door. Vadic shot the guy for merely questioning their strategy.

This is one of my favorite episodes from Season 3 for many reasons.
It served the needs of the story arc by bringing back Data/Lore/Others, but it also had a ton of Easter Eggs that made sense and also served to push the plot forward. But, even more than that, it included "possibilities" with the reveal of Genesis II, Kirk and all the others. Imagine the fun a good writing team could have with that.
Why would a facility like this have Kirk and Picard's remains? To prevent others from getting it and doing the very thing Section 31 is doing. It's protecting valuable assets.
Star Trek has never been very clear on this, but I think a ship can be tracked only when its transponder is working. So, with a working transponder or if a ship is in visual range, it can be tracked and placed in time and space. "The ship will arrive in 12 hours and 32 minutes." ... "We will follow that ship in warp and increase our speed by a factor of .2 and overtake it in 15 minutes."
The Titan is running without a transponder and when in visual range is cloaked, so it is running silent.
Like I said, Star Trek has been a little all over the place when explaining that, so I understand the confusion, because I get confused myself.
The acting, the writing, the musical cues are all on target here, and Season 3 is something special.
You may not have the charisma of Jack, but you do have the charisma of Chattery, and those of us interested in your opinions and insight are happy about that.
    Live long and prosper.

Kirk's body was from a different timeline.... maybe they were safeguarding that knowledge out of concern that his remains might be discovered on Veridiam III.

@@dkt4377 I thought is was the same timeline but it was just events that happened inside the ribbon and Nexus.
Yes, I totally agree. The idea is that others can not mess with the remains, so they took it from Veridian III.

@@MookieMc I wish Terry Matalas is appointed as executive producer of this next phase of Trek projects... Kurtzmen really dropped the ball with everything except Strange New Worlds.

I suppose I just never thought the corpses of former captains could be useful. Maybe they could be cloned or even resurrected?
Fair point about the transponder. There plenty of science in Star Trek that is inconsistent so it's fine.

I don't know who else feels like this -- but I need Chattery to upload Picard S3, like, now. ;) Having a great time re-watching with him, and so excited for the upcoming episodes.

Notice how they played the theme song of each show as 7 of 9 cycled through each ship on the view screen.

I can imagine myself as a charicter who interacts with the others as a Q-like person (with no Q powers), knowing everything that is going to happen (standing in for the audience) and watching as the main characters try to figure out what is happening. I just roam the corridors saying and doing stuff that looks like random things to others but actually reference the plot in key ways.
I waltz into the transporter room as Geordi and Alandra demiterialize singing, as I get near the pad I use my arms to make a cross in the air in front of Alandra saying "Another one bites the dust" and swiftly prance my way out; leaving everyone weirded out.
Thus what I think of in my free time.

The writing of nu-trek bothers me as a whole. It is not, in the kindest way I can describe, as good. It is truly awful and it is my life's mission to make stories more than the sum they're expected to be.
Edit: I intend to write a "star wars" killer.

It definitely feels like a different era we're in. On the whole, I would probably agree the writing is not as consistently strong as classic Trek.
