  • Another chaotic and oddly sensual episode of LOWER DECKS S4. The tourism industry on Ferenginar owes a lot to the Cerritos crew. Yes, we finally visited the home of the greediest race in STAR TREK. It was very wet. Speaking of wet...Rutherford and Tendi's friendship was tested when they had to masquerade as lovers. Don't worry, there's nothing going on between them. Nothing, totally, yeah nothing at all. Mariner has a secret that's stressing her out which she won't tell anyone about. It made her punch a surprisingly-friendly Ferengi biker in the face. Grand Nagus Rom has to somehow convince Kronos to join the Federation if he wants Ferenginar's application accepted. Should be easy enough, right? Also, Boimler is addicted to TV now. So yeah, not much happened in this episode.

We can gather that Freeman is actually really skilled interstellar diplomat from various episodes. I believe it was even mentioned that she has diplomacy courses. That is why they send Cerritos on pseudo-diplomatic missions so often. Freeman may be quite inept as a captain, but she is pretty good at her specialty.

They visited Farenginar in DS9 but like in most classic Star Trek we never got to see any big Cities only certain "important buildings" like Quarks Moms place or the Grand Nagus's building, but they did say it basically always rains on the planet so it was a cool touch on this ep.
Rom being grand nagus was established towards the end of DS9
In TNG the Farengi were met to be enemies like the klingons but that changed overtime

The admiral in this epsidoe isn't Mariner's father Alonzo Freeman, he's the goofy admiral (Vassery) introduced early in the series (Moist Vessel). He demoted Mariner when she made fun him for saying "sense-oars"

Yeah, I hadn't realized until afterwards. I did correct myself at the end of the video.

The Ferengi have been vastly improved through DS9 compared to TNG. 😊 And yes, we got to visit Ferenginar there.
The Miranda and Excelsior are still in service in the 24th century, so why wouldn't the Oberth be? 🤔
And please note that Rom asked for the standard papers and signed /those/ after Freeman challenged them, so neither have the Ferengi to bring in Qo'noS, nor have they access to all Federation ships.

Ah ok. I was hoping we'd get to see Rom sweet talking the Klingon High Council. Oh well.

I was lucky enough to go to The Star Trek Experience in Las Vegas. It was cool. The staff were dressed full Vulcan, Ferengi, Klingon makeup. They had space themed drinks and food. It also featured a Borg invasion simulation where we rode fake shuttle and were being attacked by the Borg. We had a guided evacuation while the Borg were chasing us. They had a huge Enterprise D model hovering above the entrance and an area with different show memorabilia. It was amazing!

I've got friends who are convinced Mariner's 'problem' is lingering ptsd. Either from being a starfleet brat her whole life or possibly from the Dominion War (we know she worked at DS9 for a time...). _Something_ must have happened to go from 'top of her class at the academy' to perpetual burnout Ensign.
The way it was explained to me, was that sometimes when things get really bad, you convince yourself that it will never get better. And if things do get better, you start doubting it can be real, looking for reasons why it'll get bad again, or self-sabotaging.

I'm sure in the future that Rutherford and Tendi will finally confess their feelings 💖for each other and be a couple for real.

22:42 I would honestly say the quality of this episode is indicative of most Ferangi episodes from deep space nine. A lot of good culture building was in that series. Including a trip to Feranginar. Though the most we saw was a backdrop and a room interior. This was a much better look at the planet.

About your question if we have been to Ferenginar before...the answer is yes but not many times, i think 3 times max and in DS9 mostly. It's very rare and it was very limited what we saw, with Lower Decks you can now have the advantage of having it in his full glory. Also god do i love that Rom, as a leader has made the Ferengi Alliance less predatory and more friendly business like...Long terms profit in it, it was a good sale i guess with the rule of acquisitions. Love that ending !

14:46 Quark’s good at making themed restaurants. I’ll bet that place serves root beer too. Insidious. You’ll get this reference once you’ve seen the scene in DS9.

It seems you just missed something in the final part of the episode when Freeman duped the Grand Magus he was impressed because they followed his culture so they signed out the application for the regular contract so if they’re excepted the be excepted, and I have a funny feeling once things are resolved in the season finale they most likely will be able to enter just a thought

11:50 Something I missed on the first watch was the mountain behind Boimler. I saw the stars twinkle, but didn't realize that it was product placement for Paramount.

Rutherford and Tendi are just too damn cute together to not be a couple.
And Freeman took a chance there. If there had been a profit motive for Ferengis to get the Klingons to join the Federation, they _might_ be shrewd enough to pull that off. 😅

    • @antonbrakhage490
      @antonbrakhage490 4 місяці тому

It was kind of a win-win for them though- sure, they'd owe a lot, but bringing the Klingons into the Federation would be a huge win if they actually pulled it off.

My guess is Mariner’s problem stems from her having been in a constant state of rebelliousness. Except now she’s got no reason to rebel. She’s so used to fighting, she doesn’t know how not to. The woman needs a hobby.

19:53 it’s more like they wanted to know their culture would be respected. Since the Federation had no money, how could the Nagus treat with them and expect understanding? Freeman knew the Rules of Acquisition well. Proved to Rom Sisko wasn’t an anomaly.

The Feringi were making all those to me as a test. Freeman saw right through them so when she put the identum to bring Qro'nos into the Federation. She knew that the Feringi were not going to be able to do it. When Rom saw that Carol swindled them like a true Feringi he said, "Bring me the standard papers, I'll sign," which means all of the addendums that were made during the duration of the Episode noll and void.

You know how Janeway would react to a command decision, meaning you endured Voyager, but you don't know of all the developments DS9 added to Ferenginar?!
You need to watch DS9, my friend. It is Star Trek's finest show ever.

10:49 at first I was annoyed at how dumb Rom seemed. Then I twigged on to the scam. Lita’s a good wife to Rom. Sounds like she’s got the lobes for negotiating as well. I feel they’re actually partners in the proverbial crime. Working together to lead their planet yo a profitable future.
It’s funny how Lita worships Prophets, while Rom loves profits.
