What do you guys think of the Beacn Mix and Mix Create? Are they replacing the GOXLR for you?
Replace no. I use the XLR's inputs for things other then my mic. I could see myself using the Beacn for other sources, like games, music, while my GoXLR takes care of the other sources.
If they made it also a xlr interface then it would 100% replace my goxlr, but I will probably use this alongside my goxlr for now
Oh they had black it just sold out so fast 😂
It is defintely not a GOXLR replacement it has no XLR inputs or other audio inputs at all, this is just click bait.
@@DavidPanda417 for usb and 3.5mm mics it absolutely is. If its paired with a decent audio interface is also cheaper than the GOXLR. As someone with the GOXLR since end of 2019 I will be buying the create version and using my GOXLR just as a audio interface.
I would definitely be interested in a full video on the software. I appreciate the fact the Beacn made the conscious decision to not include I/O ports on the device. This allows for people to not have to replace a functioning control device if say one of the XLR or 1/4" ports goes bad, or if they want to upgrade the component interface (like upgrading from the Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen to the Black Lion Audio Revolution 2x2). I do hope that Beacn looks at MacOS support for the 2022 roadmap as currently my work computer will change to a Macbook Pro and I use a single USB-C cable between all of my devices and the computer through the CalDigit Element hub.
So out of at least 5-10 videos I have watched you Mr. Woodhall are the FIRST person to unbox and show us the usb to c cable. I was looking for that answer for days!!! Thank you.
It's the customisation that is the real quality fo life feature of these types of devices. For instance, if you weren't a streamer/creator at all, this is still a great tool to have for your setup. Being able to individually control audio inputs and outputs.
GoXLR mini for XLR users in tandem with Beacn Mix Create seems like the ideal setup. You get the hardware benefits of the GoXLR, but the software customization and freedom of the Beacn.
if this was out when i bought my full sized goxlr thats how i would go. now i have to have the full sized goxlr beside the Beacn Mix Create.
@@darklordbazz same! The GoXLR spoiled me, but there are some features that are missing that the Beacn provides that just makes the GoXLR *almost* obsolete.
I personally won’t be ditching my GoXLR for this, but I do see this being a good product by itself. I would still suggest at least the GoXLR mini if you have an XLR mic, but if you’re already using a USB mic, don’t even bother getting the GoXLR. This thing will do just fine.
@@simplyjustkd I own the SM7B so I might buy a smaller interface so it doesnt take as much desk space.
@@darklordbazz I'm debating getting the Elgato Wave XLR and Beacn Mix Create. It would look sooo clean and would really help workflow
Amazing Quality on ur videos Sam,Keep going and make our life easier !!!
I still think the GoXLR offers a lot that the Mix doesn't. I like that my GoXLR mini has a pre amp and handles all of my mic EQ on its own hardware.
They made this to work hand in hand with the Beacn USB mic.
That's because these are not interfaces, but control surfaces. You can have your own interface, whatever it might be, and then control it with these. This is meant to control ANYTHING your computer sees, not just what connects to it like the GoXLR does.
@@seePyou I mean yea. The question was " Will you replace the GoXLR with this?" So not being an interface, and only a control surface, the answer is no.
@@DocRock08 but it might serve some to replace it. Ultimately, these are different products, so any comparisson fails. They are not comparable. If anything, GoXLR fails as it faced with its own limitations; it tried to be an interface and a control surface, so it was bound to only address a specific crowd. But the Mix and Mix Create focus on control and do that well! This allows anyone to choose any interface they want, and then allows them to just change ONE thing for something better. I do not have to change my control surface if I find a better interface, and I don't have to change my interface if I find a better controll surface.
The GoXLR offers a lot, it even offers shitty audio quality :)
Thanks for this! I would love in a full video on the software.
Dope @Sam Woodhall! Go ahead and make a full tutorial! Thanks!
Hey Sam, thanks for the awesomely detailed explanation! I have one question I'm unsure of, I have a set of Adam audio T8V's connected to a Scarlett 2i2 interface as well as my Shure SM7B with a cloud lifter.. would I be able to still use my mic and listen to my studio monitors and link the devices together and use within the software? This is one major factor that stopped me from buying a Go XLR as they don't have 1/4" TRS inputs on the device and I have to have it selected as my main audio device, so I believe... Can you reflect on this for me a little bit or even test and show this maybe? Thanks again for such a great video, I really have high hopes for this device it looks absolutely great!
Full guide on the mix create would be much appreciated Sam.
was able to get one couple days ago cant wait for it to show up!!
Id love to see a video on how to use this one a 2 pc set up and still be able to control what volume the stream can hear vs what volume is set at in headphones. I currently have a GoXLR Mini and found that was the most frustrating thing
I actually drew something like this up to see how it would work if someone was to ditch this for a GoXLR/mini.
Basically, you already have everything you need assuming you also route your streaming PC audio back to the GoXLR.
- 3.5 aux out from the gaming, to line in on streaming
- 3.5 aux out from streaming, into line in on gaming
Does the GoXLR make this easier, absolutely. But it can be done, and you already have the 3.5 aux cables to do it.
How is the mic compared to say the Shure SMB7 or whatever it's called?
Does the mute functionality have a similar thing they did on one of the GoXLR beta versions where you could do press to mute to chat for example but HOLD to mute to all? So you could get two mute functions out of the one button.
So would it be as simple as switching your OBS audio sources to the output from the Mix Create?
I would love a setup for stream video with those. Can you test if you record your stream with beacn sound setup in obs, can the audio be split into there own audio lanes, so they are separate when editing?.
I really like the look of these, but historically my reason for not getting a GoXLR (an possibly this?) is that I like to record Game audio, Voice, Discord, Background music, etc to separate audio tracks in OBS for editing my VODs after the stream. Does this output separate audio channels/sources to OBS that would enable that? (i.e. Does it output the "Mic", "Chat", "Music" channels for me to add as an input to OBS?)
It would be really useful to have a video on how to set this all up with OBS. Not knowing how to do that it what's stopping me from getting something like this.
I have this all set up just like this on both a 1 PC and 2 PC setup via OBS.....I have been asked to make a video guide and never did, guess I should.....
I know I'm using the Wave XLR on my dual setup. I would imagine this thing can do the same. Tell spotify to play on the music track and then have obs input the music track for audio and so on
Goxlr for sure you can seperate it
The video shows him changing the input and output settings for Discord and it shows the device. So pretty sure that is possible with this.
Also shows the windows audio interface with inputs and outputs visible.
Great review Sam!
Great work Sam. I would also be interested how to replace wave link software with the create mix software. And how to include the wave3 mic.
Sam - will you be using the mix create with your goxlr? Lools like the beacn software is great, but for those of us that have the goxlr, i am curious to see of folks will implememt the mix create.
Great review! As an owner of a Wave XLR I really like the beacn software as it looks similar in simplicity. Too bad the beacn didn't have an XLR input though. Seems like a lot of people want to ditch the goxlr but still need a way to use their XLR mic
I'm debating about ditching my GoXLR mini, getting a Wave XLR and the Mix Create. Seems like a great combo
Thanks for the vid I would love a future video about this
Is there a way to briefly check in to the audience mix without the horrible echo of opening your own stream?
honestly so happy you are using spotify, it really is superior and your switch from apple music was so genuine. Thank you.
So I like this thing. I want to replace my goxlr and was thinking about getting a wave xlr but this one looks so much better. But I still use the goxlr for my podcast mic?
you still use your goxlr as an audio interface but you use the Beacn mix as the controller instead of the controller build on the goxlr
Great video Sam! Any idea if the software would play nice with Voicemeeter?
Pretty sure this would be a hardware replacement for Voicemeeter.
The Beacn software replaces the need for Voicemeeter. Yes you can use both is you need the added features in VM but I have used the Mix Create to replace the need for Voicemeeter.
@@WestDakota the hardware does not do any mixing, the hardware is basically a fancy controller for the Beacn software where all the work is being done.
@@theprime6950 yep. I bought the product a couple months ago and am currently using it.
I am tempted to scrap the XLR and mixer I have (They are big and bulky) This would be a great space saver and have tried to get all my audio into one spot with my dual PC setup. Sam, what do you think?
I want to ask, can i use this with Goxlr or it suppose to replace it? I liek idea to be able to change volume for more than 4 sources on the fly which you cant do on go xlr and also the smaller form factor is nice but not sure if worth it. Most importantly i still need go xlr for my xlr mic.
You can use it with both for sure!
If I replaced my GoXLR with the Beacn, what would you suggest that I connect my Shure MV7 XLR Mic with?
I would recommend the Wave XLR or the Scarlett 2i2
I was literally going to say what @V3n0m15 said... Wave XLR is probably best to replace GoXLR
Or if you have the money go with the rodecaster pro 2
Very interested in the product. Could you make a video on how to set it up for a dual PC?
This would be a def buy if it worked with more than just the beacn mic. What i mean is like how the goxlr can control the mic.
Have watched many a review on these devices in the past day, and sadly by the time I found all the info I was looking for, the Mix Create is out of stock!
I picked up their mic though, may replace my XLR SM58 with AE-9, with the added bonus of being able to use it with my work laptop!
If and when I pickup a Mix Create, I'm essentially replacing VoiceMeeter with hardware. That's it, that's the change. Can I still use VM to route audio to my stream PC? Sure can, and may, but the Mix devices are strongly for control over audio, and they seem to do is very seamlessly.
So for using a Sm7b.....how does one not use an XLR cable? And will it still sound good?
You will still need an XLR interface.
Good review and good product. I'm slightly puzzled they chose to ditch the simplicity and long time need for a quick way to add sources from the Beacn Mix in the Beacn Mix Create! I wonder why that happened. I expected everything the Beacn Mix to exist in the Beacn Mix Create but instead we have to use direct assignment and work with the Windows panel?
If you're talking about the drag and drop functionality, that is coming in their roadmap.
Dual pc setup video with mix create would be great
Is there a 1/4 thread on the back???
Showing sold out already on the website 😥 You did too good of a job Sam!
Just for clarification, are you still using the GoXLR for EQ, compression, etc. and using the Beacn Mix just to control volumes?
I'm just using it to control volume.
One being an audio interface and the other a audio controller I don’t think so, especially with GoXLR working on submixes, it will not replace it
I don't think the GoXLR team are working on submixes. If you can find an announcement I'd appreciate it. Last I heard it wasn't being done because of how things were coded on the backend.
@@SamWoodhall They mentioned it's being worked on in their official Discord. It's the next big update, as they just released a update for Mic Profiles and Animated RGB modes recently
@@SamWoodhall "CURRENT AS OF: 01/27/2022 : Subject to Change
Feature: Second Broadcast Stream Mix as an output. Music added as an output.
What is it: We are adding audio device channels to make streamers lives easier. Second Broadcast Stream Mix will be identical to your BSM but with music removed. Music output will be your Music channel only as a pass through (with level adjustments of course)
Timeline: Next Firmware Update
Feature: "Sub-mixes"
What is it: Allows users to control their listening mix independently from their stream mix.
Timeline: Under development. Have this slotted for the next application update. It's a big feature and we want to do it right so we have spent a lot of time looking at what is out there currently. What would work on GoXLR and what wouldn't.
Feature: Sampler Row When GoXLR Mini is plugged in
What is it: Users on GoXLR Mini will be able to route things to their sampler output in the GoXLR application
Timeline: Likely added as a part of the sub-mix update but will be dependent on timelines etc. As I mentioned sub-mixes is a big feature. The more we add to the sub-mix release the further back its date will be pushed
Feature: Smarter user profile saving. Other quality of live improvements to user profiles
What is it: Recognizing when the user has made changes to their user profile and prompting them to save. Bug fixes with respect to user profiles.
Timeline: No ETA, but high on the priority list."
Sweet. Thank you for letting me know. I wasn't aware of this so I appreciate you bringing it up!
anyone still waiting for the black one to be in stock?
Wait does this thing not support XLR mics?
Nope. It's just an audio mixer.
Even if the software is better than the goxlr software, from the looks of it it's gonna cost more than the goxlr mini (at least in Australia) and then I'm also gonna need to buy a separate audio interface for my xlr mics. So I'd say no, this ain't replacing the goxlr, not by a long shot. Might be nice for controlling audio levels for people with usb mics?
Could I combine this with a rodecaster pro? I'm still searching a solution for having multiple xlrs inputs and the features of an audio mixer like this
You'd need an XLR input, like a Wave XLR or some other device. Then you can use this to control the output of that mic for stream.
@@SamWoodhall yeah that's why I thought about the rodecaster pro. This device has 4 XLR inputs
but what is the target audience for the beacn mix? are there really so many regular people that pay 150 $ for a audio mixer?
Still no Mac support. ;( The only reason I still have to use my GOXLR on my WinPC.
Can you do a vs and help those of us who are debating XLR or Creator mix? And in depth setup with 2 PC please
Elgato wave walked so beacn can run
viability for a 2 pc setup?
Yep, can be used for 2 PCs
Buying this in Europe is a pain :(
100% liked because of spotify opinion. 200% liked if I could for the rick roll.
So, the biggest question now is... What knob is your favourite? lol
Really disappointed there’s no XLR input until there is you can’t fully compare to the goxlr…nor can it replace it as it doesn’t do the same thing lol 🙃
I think it pairs really well with their own mic, which is great. If you already have a GoXLR, this isn't the produce for you. And for some people, it does what it needs to do and thus works for them.
@@SamWoodhall oh for sure agree there. Just can’t see how it can possibly fully replace goxlr when it doesn’t have the same functionality without an XLR input. I imagine they’ll do a version eventually as you say it pairs well with their own mic which is likely what their aiming for with their first product releases, creating that Beacn ecosystem
Totally. And this is day one, I'm expecting big things from them going forward. They have a great team behind them.
In all honestly mac Support is the only thing these guys are missing
GOXLR mini + podmic is $350 and beacn mic + mix create is $480... huge pass for me. You get so much more i/o on the goxlr. Faders are better than knobs. Having a screen is cool but seems for of a gimic. I dont understamd why tbis product is so hyped up
... I own the full size GoXLR with the SM7B and I am buying this and just using the GoXLR as a audio interface. The mix create has features that I have been wishing were in the goxlr.
This is a cool piece of tech, but I was a little disappointed when you mentioned the goxlr size. It's sort of misleading to some people, because based on your recommendations I almost immediately bought this thing. But I save zero and I mean zero space on my desktop with it at the end of the day. because I still have to have my audio interface to connect my sure SM7B in either to use the thing. I would have preferred that it was very clearly stated that this is just another hardware controller with mixing software. As opposed to labeling it an actual mixer, which it clearly is not.
It's always been stated it's a hardware controller. There's just way more versatility to it than the GOXLR which is why I said it's a replacement. You can use ANY hardware with it. Yes you need an XLR interface, but it allows for way more mixing capabilities than what the GOXLR offers.
@@SamWoodhall Ok I can see that. But I just think there are going to be far more people asking or stating that question, than the ones that are going to understand what you meant. It's still amazing work as always. I just feel there are far more new people who are going to miss than point, I'm, seasoned and I missed it.
That's understandable. And totally respect it. I'll take notes on board for future stuff.
No Mac compatibility :(
Yet... It is coming, they mentioned it.
I think 2 people left the team over GoXLR and made there own Company
This is all SO easy compared to the hell that goxlr has 😩
I want one so bad. I guess I'll be saving up for that next. The setup is never complete!
The beacn is non-comparable to the GOXLR as it is missing an XLR input. If you compare it to Elgato Wave 3 microphone and software, the Beacn is missing a microphone. Just my humble opinion.
Well said
They made a microphone too, with a bunch of nice features, bit it's a premium price tag for a USB mic, from what I can tell it meshes well with these and I believe they were intended to be bought and used together, that being said, the wave:3 is much cheaper, but doesn't have the mixer hardware though if you have a stream deck it can be a decent substitute, though lacking rotary knobs.
@@theripcord03 Thanks, I have started seeing the VODs for it. This is great for maybe those starting out in content creation with a bucket of cash to spend. I still think the Wave 3 is the better value overall especially for those starting out creating content, or for parents that want to support their kids. Its a hard sale for $400 worth of audio equipment for a family that can barely afford a $500 laptop, or even a $1500 computer with a $200 monitor as just the base for content creation.
