- HONDA HRX 426 QX PETROL LAWN MOWER.
The last cut of the season.
I have only gone and bought a second hand mower. It came from a good home, so fingers crossed there is lots of life left in the mower.
I also discuss the pit falls of Honda rear roller mowers.
Thanks for watching.
Please like and subscribe.
Remember. When the green gold is growing, keep mowing.
All the best now.👍🏻
Your right not cutting too short on fortnightly visits (for quality) keeping the 1/3 rule in mind and it's good to leave a little length over the winter. Thanks for the mention Rob 👍
Your welcome Carl. Love your channel, you put out some great content and advice. Thanks for watching and your comment. 👍🏻
Lovely job great 💪🏽 , as always great catch up
Thank you. Appreciate your comment and thanks for watching.👍🏻
Good luck with your mower hunting Rob. This year I’ve cut my lawn at a much higher height and can’t believe how much thicker and moss/weed free it has become. Love your vlogs, thanks 🙏👍
That’s a great comment, thank you.👍🏻
I had the stihl 655 rs on demo. It slipped like crazy on wet lawns and mossy lawns. Also felt heavy/not well balanced. I went for the stihl 655 vs 4 wheel instead. Great mower! Hayter pro 56 2019 is my roller mower. Good video 👍
Thanks Carl , I am edging towards the 21 inch Lawnflite rear roller.
@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices 👍 a mower with a blade clutch brake is a must for me. Makes life so much easier, driving between jobs on the same street and going up the ramps in the van.
Nice to see you started with the headland mate . Take care
Cheers Ricky. All the best. 👍🏻
Got to say Rob, loving your videos. Your honest and seem a lovely fella. Not doing the you tube influencer give me free on long term loan kit for me to review.
Nothing wrong with that, just nice to see different gardeners on you tube.
Thanks Neil. Your right I am as straight as a dye.
Yes I get a few quid from adverts. Not a lot mind. I might buy a new camera next spring if I am lucky.
When I started , I promised myself to stay honest and real.
There are too many shopping channels and affiliate link channels who lose focus and would sell their granny for a thousand views.
I am not rich, but I can sleep at night.
All the best.
I love strimming the edges, and now I've realised I get a similar the therapy watching it happen😂.
Thanks mate , appreciate your comment. I must take more care. All the best.
@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices dont worry about that corner fella, no permanent damage! no day ever goes 100% smooth (yesterday went about 1% smooth for a new garden i worked on😆)
@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices oh then I've just now set off for my last lawn cut and seen the rain! It's a 5 hour lawn and is unthinkable when it's this wet. Ah well, i have a repaired hedgetrimmer to collect from gustharts and might just have a talk with about their stihl mowers (only ever used Honda 21" in my first 3 years which I love but you've got me thinking now for when this goes)
Great video, great content again.
I have a hayter 48 Harrier Pro.
A Viking 21 inch mower,mulching too.
And a little honda izzy.👍💯👍💯
A good set of mowers there Mark. Thanks for watching and your comment.👍🏻
Good job Rob. Look forward to seeing which mower you go for. The Stihl mower looks good. They had a 21” at the local farm supplies. Will have to have a look at the other you mentioned.
Thanks Adam, it is a tough decision. 👍🏻
Finished my grass cutting early last month lol nice video matey
Cheers David, all the best. 👍🏻
Good work Rob
Thanks Wayne, appreciate your comment. 👍🏻
Absolutely no problem whatsoever Rob
Hi rob last cut for me I use hayter pro think they cut 60mm high I maintain all my equipment saved me a small fortune the pro is easy to service and maintain 👍
Thanks Tom. Appreciate your comment. All the best.
You getting a few mowers now mate 👍 Bigger van soon?
If your cutting into the crown at 50mm the lawn could probably benefit from a scalp and reset (next spring) imo mate.
Great advice, watch this space. All the best.
Hi Rob great video, I’ve been using Etesia for years great cut n collect in the wet is great if you want to work in the rain but quality of the finish isn’t that good I was given a lawnflight pro 21 inch roller absolutely brilliant I can’t believe I’ve struggled so long with Etesia all my customers love the stripes from the roller and it can cut long grass really well only thing is a bit heavy so I was thinking of purchasing one like yours so fingers crossed I find a bargain 🤦🏻♂️😂 👍👍
Thanks for watching and your comment Luke. I found the 426 too small and upgraded to the 476 . All the best.
Been in garden maintenance a long time and used alot of different lawnmowers. I'll be honest if your cutting height is above 2 inches then your likely better off using a 4 wheeler for these particular lawns or slowly reduce your cutting height.
Cutting longish grass with a roller in wet conditions is a nightmare, tends to just flatten it if particularly wet and a 4 wheeler will do a better job.
Honda hrh536 are the best and most robust 21inch rollers about. The finish is awesome and they are built like tanks, though they are cumbersome to use in smallish Gardens which is what the hayter 48 pro is for.
Thank you Greg. Appreciate your comment. All the best.
Nice one Rob 👍.
Thanks.
Excellent mower rob
Thanks Edward, appreciated. All the best.
It is still growing and weather this weekend it will still keep growing
Your right Graeme, I am still getting requests to cut lawns here in the North. All the best.
Great job Rob! Lol but you know me I would have taken it even lower! 😄😄😄
Thanks Ken, if I would have done that it would be the same colour as your crap pole. 😂
All the best.👍🏻🥊
The green gold can grow. Feet up time for me!
I've never really understood the fascination with rear roller mowers or stripes on the lawn. It's just flattened grass after all. Which will spring back up in no time.
Yet us gardeners seem to think roller mowers and stripes are the dogs dangles for some reason? Roller mowers are generally heavier than there non roller counter parts and as you say, less versatile.
All I know is not a single customer of mine, and I've got a few, are bothered about lines of flattened grass on there lawn.
But as I always say. Each to there own.
Gary you are so right. The Honda hrx 537 does a brilliant job on all lawns.
They should call rear roller mowers , vanity mowers.
All the best my friend.
Great to see those 3 point turns with the mower👍🏾 I see so many people just doing a straight 180 on the spot and ripping the ground up 😭... I always try to use the Stihl edger attachment when possible because those strimmers can be lethal on the edge with just a little off movement 😂
I know you're not the biggest hayter fan but the older ones do raise higher than the newer models, never had a problem with my one 👍🏾
Thanks Jordan. I keep looking for a good second hand Hayter. They are like Hens teeth. All the best.
Hi Rob, I'm a long time subscriber but I've missed this one, have you still got the HRX426QX? I've got one of these that I got brand new but tbh I use a Stihl 17" rear roller most of the time now for the smaller gardens, mainly for its wet weather ability but also it does go higher than the Honda too, and a little lighter to lug about, I do love the Honda tho on decent flat dry lawns, that's where it shines for me.
I sold it, I do have the 476 rear roller . Only comes out when it’s dry. All the best.
The rear roller mowers are for low cutting lawns but your very rite what i find now is theres nothing rite out there you can but rear roller kits make a rear hitch for it put it on a normal mower for the longer lawns
Thanks Noel. I am not a fan of roller kits. Multiple mowers is the answer. 👍🏻
Mowers are a personal thing I think all have pros and cons I've used most over the last 30 years honda, hayter, viking (now stihl)plus others but my favourite is my lawnflite 553hrs-pro-hs (kaazmowers),but you will replace the roller every 18months or so if it is your main mower. But all round I find it the best mower.
Good luck, love the videos I find you very honest, keep them coming
Thanks Paul. Is it expensive to replace the roller on the lawnflite. Thanks.
@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices it's not cheap the replacement rollers are about £75each(one either side of gear box) then a few other bits like needle bearings etc plus labour (I don't do it)
£200/250 in total
How old is the lawnflite design 🤔 30 old years? I think they are horrible things to use and as you say the rollers splines strip quite regularly 🙄
For a very reasonable £650, I would go for the Masport 18'' RR Self Propelled. A lighter mower at 38kgs.
A very reliable mower, rarely get grief with the rear roller and it is much more suited to the smaller lawns
I see you mowing. Yes ...go for the Lawnflite 21'' RR..I found it very reliable, also used to come with the KAZ
or SARP badge. All three vastly superior to the Honda version.
Have a look at weibang mowers mate. I’ve got a 56 legacy pro and has a max 67mm! 3 year commercial warranty - can’t beat that. Only thing is it’s very heavy (68.5kg) so not practical for the smaller lawns. All the best rob mate👍🏻
Thanks for watching and your comment. Weibang have been getting some bad press regarding smoke coming out of the engine’s. Yes the weight is a negative.
Professional job Rob! I have a Stihl mower, but it's only a budget one.. it's my backup. My 1st choice is Hayter 41 Pro which is a crackin' little mower.. I converted the rear roller on that one from plastic to metal. Very neat little mower and fast.. also very useful hose attachment for cleaning it's underside, cool feature.. although I suspect too small for your needs?
Cheers Neil, yes I am after a 21 inch. Thanks for watching and your comment.👍🏻
I see all the trees up your way have lost their leaves Rob, they’re still green on the branches a lot down here.
Thanks Tony, we have had some cold nights. All the best.
yup, hondas do cut very short, not had a scalping issue with mine
did you like my vid on how to stipe a lawn without a roller mower, I used a stihl on that one, they bag really well.
Thanks for watching, I did see your, how to stripe video. The lawn looked really well. Unlike your 🦵 legs. 😂
I have a stihl mower and yes it does bag very well but sometimes doesn’t cut the whole lawn evenly. It leaves behind bits of grass uncut or cut at a different height. I may get it speeded up a tad. All the best.
@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices I had a demo stihl roller, caused me a major headache as one of my clients was not happy, they do cut hight, didn't notice and uneven cut though,
oi nowt wrong with my legs.
What was wrong with the stihl. Do a video on it . Tell me what happened.
Here is a challenge, do a video without using the words-
Too busy.
Stress.
Really angry.
Now there is a challenge.
All the best.
Looking forward to seeing it.
Rob.
Maxwells grass cutting services.
I know you struggle with names. 😂
I use the same Honda lawnmowers in my company. I do suffer from the same problem regarding the height issue 😕. Be careful and maintain the chain and roller keep it well greased can be costly repair if not. Otherwise good mowers 👍. Hayter are also good rather quick and cheaper to repair if they go wrong but warranty will cover it 😉.
Kind regards chris
Thanks for watching and your comment, great advice. All the best.👍🏻
Great video!! 52mm is high enough for me. You won’t be disappointed with a stilhl 655 RS. Might also be worth having a look at Etesia if your feeling flush 👍
Thanks for watching and your comment. I will have a look. Don’t tell the wife though.👍🏻
How do you get it out of your van.? Is it light enough to lift on your own.
I use a home made ramp.
ua-cam.com/video/HDgvracISNk/v-deo.html
All the best and thanks for watching. J
Cool well done.
Great video as always rob. There are no more defined stripes than hayter.
Thanks Tim, the poor collection on wet lawns puts me off. All the best.
@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices side drives cut fantastic in the wet as Kenneth Taylor can tell you 😃
Are you still able to do a video on the HRX537 and how that was a game changer for your business compared to an Izy? I think that would be a brilliant video and interesting.
Leave it with me Neil, I will do that for you.
All the best.
@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices Look forward to seeing that. Cheers.
Stihl isn't as good as it used to be I've got all Stihl but going to try husqvarna for next year think the only thing I'll use is the hs82 and maby sell up on the rest of this Stihl.... I was mowing a lawn last month and the front wheels just dropped of my mower 😂😂 was half way threw the garden aswell. Keep the videos going mate
Thanks Martin, so far I have had no issues with Stihl. The wheel situation would annoy me too. All the best.
My weibang BBC Pro 48 goes from 67mm down to 13mm. In put down 47 mm in summer which roller flatting grass. Darren from salix gardening. Which made up with my weibang rear roller.
Thanks Darren, pleased your happy with the Weibang.
Rob. I think I've run all the brands at somepoint incl Lawnflite and Stihl. It's Stihl all day long now for me, been running the 21" Roller and the 19" rotary that you use for nearly 2 seasons. All mowers are some sort of compromise but i find Stihl is less of a compromise than the other makes. I'm going to update the 21" as well as adding the 17" Stihl roller to the fleet next year. Also as an aside i find Stihl dealers very good, knowledgeable and helpful.
Can I ask which model number. 6 or 7 on the stihl? Im using the 4 series 4 wheeler this year . Its more of a domestic but does a great job . Going more into lawn care next season so looking at pro range
Adam, that’s a great comment. Thank you. I too have a great local stihl dealer nearby. That might be the difference. All the best.
Hello Neil. My stihl is the 6 series and it does a great job. All the best.
@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices thanks Rob. I'm very much taken with stihl mowers. Petrol though. I'm going for husky battery for handheld equipment. Seems better built than stihl.
Which is a shame.
Hi Rob. How much would you charge to cut a small lawn like that? Iam thinking of bringing in a minimum charge. Got too many small lawns similar to that, just getting the mower out for a small lawn. Not great for business.
I too have a minimum charge.
£22. for next season.
👍🏻
@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices so if for instance there was a lawn similar to that size your cutting there. Would the £22 minimum charge still apply?
Yes definitely.
@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices fair play if you can get it! Next season cant come quick enough. There all getting a price increase. Great videos, enjoyed watching them
It’s a nice little mower, but no they don’t cut high enough😩 I have the lawnflite pro 21” roller and I got to be honest, it has a decent high cut and it does bag really well, even the wet stuff 😁 all the best with your mower shopping and I hope you can find your happy ending with one rob😃
Thanks Jordan. Are you happy with the lawn flute. Is it something you would recommend. Cheers.
@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices honestly, yes😃 I would highly recommend it, and I’m sure quite a few other people would as well such as dagtail😁 give one a try out if you get the chance and I’m sure you will not be dissatisfied with it😁
Very good decision Rob to avoid Honda 21'' rear roller mowers, especially the Pro version.
You will get very serious mechanical problems with the transmission, gear box and the roller itself disintegrating.
The reason being that such mowers cannot stand up to the weight of the grass in the bag/box,...causing far too
much load on the mechanical workings. You will spend fortunes getting it repaired. They are a money pit.
Great advice, thank you.👍🏻
Hi Rob can the mower be modified to do a higher cut. i;e longer threaded bar on the adjuster or little legs on all four corners at 50mm to give you 1oomm adjustment. You need Dick van Dyke to work on it, for you.😂🔨🔧
Thanks for watching and your comment Adrian. That’s a bit too far for me. All the best.
I've always found the Honda HRD cuts long enough unless you are doing an overgrown or very bumpy lawn but wouldn't use a roller mower for that anyway. Personally I wouldn't buy a Honda or a lawnflite as they are both very old designs. Lawnflite is old Honda pro. Both vibrate to much. The stilh is very good for vibs and you could comfortably use that all day and of course it has amazing performance on long wet grass.
Thanks Nick, a great comment. All the best.
Oddly enough Nick, I always found the Honda replicas to be far better performers, yes Lawnflite and also
KAZ and SARP. I got through two Honda RR Pro's...they were a disaster,...6 months only the first and just
3 months the second. They cannot bear the weight of wet grass in the box/bag and so too much load
on the gear box. Cost fortunes to repair.
@@jimmnievans6068 that's interesting..yes newer isn't necessarily better.
Hi Rob,another good video. What do you think of the speed of the new mower?
It’s slow, only good for small lawns.
🤷♂️🤷♂️Hayter 56 🤷♂️🤷♂️
My first thoughts was it needed to be a lower cut 😯🤷♂️🤔
Really, it would have been the colour of a banana 🍌. All the best.
surly not this time of year, I stoipped using my roller and went on to my lighter mower to cut high and not squish the grass down. high cuts at the end of season and beginning, IMHO!👍👍👍😁😁
Snap, I bought the same machine earlier in the year, second hand. 🐌 slow.
Cheers Jason , yes it’s slow. Only good for small/ medium sized lawns. All the best.
why don't you look for a Haiter because they have a rear roler differetial which is something that Honda don't do
Thanks for watching and your comment.👍🏻
Hi rob, cobra do some great mowers, good quality and either honda or kawasaki motors, much better choice than overpriced stihl mowers
Thanks Dazza I will have a look at the cobra. All the best.
There great mowers if you avoid cobra engines
Do you do fencing, sheds, decking and patios to keep you going over the winter? I do this and can be a good earner in the colder months
They cut from 25mm to 78mm you haven’t adjusted the height correctly!!
Thanks Dave.
Funny I would have cut it shorter than what you did, maybe it just looks longer on the video. I'm the opposite, I cut most of my fortnightly lawns shorter than what you do and Stihl don't cut as short as other mowers, that's my only gripe against Stihl mowers. Great video though.👌👍
Thanks Brian. It’s funny how we all have different ideas and views. Thanks for watching and your comment.
bought a 476 hrx new its absolutely shit poor quality cut and slow
Use a 536 for everything now
Sorry to hear that, does it have a rear roller?
@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices yes.
Thanks, I know not to but it anytime soon. 👍🏻
