After owning many cars over the years ( almost every type you can imagine: Porsche, Alfa 156gta, Bmw 7 series, Mercedes Glk, 2× Jeeps GC, even a Navigator) I aproach my 40's and wanted a new and practical car for me and my family under 30k € because in 2019 I just can't justify paying more for a decent car. The Renegade was at first very distant on my list, but as soon as I saw the facelift it became an viable option. After drivetesting various cars at dealers to compare things ( the new Renegade was the last drivetest) it instantly became apparent the Renegade was the best option, altough I was very skeptical about it. What is shocking is the solidness and quietness of this facelifted model, I honestly did not expected to drive this good. So I made my mind on the spot and bought the Limited 2wd with the 1.3 liter Turbo 150ps automatic. After 1 month of ownership and 2000kms I am absolutelly sure I bought the right car because:
1. It is very light (1300kg) and nimble for such a car, it almost feels as a hatchback. The steering is precise and fast enough
2. The chassis is very well built, very solid and stiff ( I couldn t hear a single creack or rattle, and I am paranoid about this) but the suspension is very well tuned- very compliant and not too rigid. I found it to be very comfortable on longer trips. Braking power is almost as good as my Alfa Gta!( no joke)
3. The visibility is absolutelly outstanding for ANY modern car ( only my Fiat 500 is better at this)
4. The sound insulation and quietness at high speed is unbelievable for such a boxy car, very quiet overall. Interestingly enough the CX of this car is 0.34 which is better than many sedans!
5. The 3cyl engine is actually good but the 4cyl 1.3 liter turbo is a peach. It is very refined, it pulls very good from just 1800rpm even in 6th gear. I am not a fan of engine downsizing but this little 1.3cc turbo works brilliantly in every situation and it is not overworked. It pulls almost like a diesel under 2200rpm but revs happily to 6000rpm with no dip in power curve. Very brilliant engine!
6. The dual clutch TCT gearbox works very good actually, I don t understand why all the testers moaned about it, it is a little slower than a PDK but is very well suited for the car: it is smooth and the start stop function is seamless.
7. Consumption: my average is 8 liters/100km mainly in town. First 300kms I got 10,5l/100km average but it slowly improved day by day.
8. Practicality is very good
9. To sum up: The petrol Renegade was really a revelation for us : it looks almost like a character rather than a car, it is nimble and puts a smile on your face. Even my wife that considered the Renegade ugly and ridiculous now begs me to drive the car from time to time.
Very nice report! Enjoy 😊
This model is being evaluated for introduction into India. And it will sit below the Compass, which is already popular. It will be interesting to see how the petrol will fare since most mini SUVs are diesel powered here. Thanks for the first hand review. And thank you Thomas for making it possible. I must compliment you for observing all traffic lights and at the same time driving and speaking so well. 🙏🏽
@Siddesh Gannu How odd! It's a pity.
This doesn't help when deciding whether tu buy a Renegade or not.
Thank you... I am going to test drive a limited one too and a XC40 as well and make a choice
I bought a 2016 2WD model in the US based largely on the strength of your review of the 2015. I've been very pleased, particularly as at the time it was the lowest-cost vehicle I could find with active safety features like automatic braking and blind spot monitoring. Love love love your in-depth reviews, thanks Thomas!
Cool john, enjoy!
Another great review!!! Thanks Thomas...
Thank you for the test. Great as always. Worth mentioning is that a great part of door sides are lined with soft material so hand is never in contact with hard plastic ( unless you drive with ‘cold elbow” :))
I owned a 2016 renegade latitude and loved it. just totaled it last week after someone ran a red light and hit me, but i’m getting the 2019 renegade to replace it. i just loved the car so much and couldn’t bear to part with it.
I will say this car kept me really safe in my accident. the car who ran the red turned in front of me and i hit them head-on going 45mph and escaped with just a few bruises and some sore muscles.
glad u re OK !
Great Review. Liked the panic handle description at 7:37. As always, your driving part and commentary Thomas, is excellent. And yes, feel we're with you on the drive, getting a very good impression of the car on the road. 18:52 agree, some customers, even rich ones, don't want to spend much money on a car. "Live on tape!", but too eager an alarm? I don't like frightening my passengers (or myself). Many thanks Thomas.
👌👌👌
Great work as always. Glad you feel the vibes!
=)
My favorite presenter nice work Thomas
Looking forward to the Autogefuel version!
Such a great review! 🤙
appreciated!
Baby Jeep, I have seen it in person looks quite good 🤔
I'm getting the new renegade this year. I own 2015. Love it.

Excellent Demo'. Thank you so much👌😉

Your german accent already gives you so much more credibility.

Yeah he comes from the land who makes good machines :) but drawback he could raise the bar so high hehe
@@autogefuehl If I'm looking for a High Price but unreliable with expensive maintaince cost an bad engineering for no real reason... What German car would you recommend??? Cheers , Great show.
Very good commentary, your reviews are very entertaining and informative.

Hi Thomas! Good review as always. I think that you can set "rear view camera delay" from the car options in the screen. In other FCA products you can do this.
thanks! Oh interesting, I ll check
I have a 2019 latitude renegade and I love it. I’m pretty much a city driver (with potholes! 😖) so it works very well for me. Have taken road trips with it and it’s comfy enough. Don’t go off-road at all but if I did I would get a trailhawk (or a Jeep Wrangler 4x4 all together). It’s a great looking subcompact SUV 👌🏻
thanks and enjoy!
I love this little car. Wanted one for years as my first car. Hopefully get my driving test passed in the new year and get one. Fingers crossed. I think your channel is the new version of Top Gear.. the better one. BBC version now stinks.
Thks Thom.
Watching this review it cames to my mind that most car's channels prefer to show super cars: that's the easiest way to get lot of views and likes. You instead prefers to review a lot of different cars, even the affordable ones. For this reason your channel should be listed under "public service" section! 😃😃😃👍👍👍
thats what we do. Please keep supporting us :)
Great review as usual - I note that in Germany you can get the Limited with cloth seats, interestingly in the UK you can only get the Limited in leather, so if you do not want to sit on a dead animal you have to go for the lower models BUT in the UK they only do 4x4 in the Limited version .....
Interesting thx for the info, strange what they combine sometimes
Hallo Thomas, wie geht's? Since I've been using an automatic gearbox, I cannot use manual shifting any longer, I was fed up to harden my left calf!Very good test as always!
thanks! hehe yeah i also enjoy automatics =)
I’m surprised you guys haven’t been able to get the 40kwh Leaf yet. And the Zoe of course. Maybe if a new one comes this year they’ll finally let you drive one? Crazy that they haven’t so far.
If I was 25 it would probably be my 1st choice of vehicle (the 4×4 version).
Yanni Looking good I’m 24 and really considering this vehicle lol
25 yrs old and really considering it... so yeah :)))
I'm 24 I already own a 2017 IMMA UPGRADE FOR SURE!!
Well done Thomas, great review! Few months ago, I didn't like to much your reviews because they are to long, but I changed my mind. 😁 P.S. I will buy a new car in the next few months, and this FL Regenade is on short list now. Probably 1.3t AT AWD. 🙂
Thanks 🙏 u can also check our 2nd channel with shorter reviews that is linked in the video description! And then watch short for some cars and long for others :)
@@autogefuehl Thanks, for less interesting cars (for me), I will watch shorter reviews. 🙂
My father and I went to watch a Jeep Renegade 2019 1.0 3 cilinder. And it is a very nice car. And we were nevertheless impressed by the Renegade that we were going to look further. In the end it came down to us that we wanted the facelifted Jeep Renegade with a 1.3 150 hp and automatic transmission. And then some nice options such as Beats Audio, leather upholstery etc etc. But we have chosen the 2018 model before the facelift with a 1.4 multiair 140 hp in dark gray mettalic, black grill and black / high gloss black details / elements that very looks thick. The 2018 model has received a few updates such as the 8.4 inch navigation, lever for opening tailgate and some other things in the interior. Still I bale that my father did not go for the facelift. The facelift looks somewhat tighter, more refreshed and cooler in my eyes. And the LED lamps look very mean. My parents do not think it's worth € 5,000 extra for the facelift. But we have the car now almost 4 months, and I have to say it is a very cool car and sturdy especially in the color composition as we have it now (dark gray mettalic, black grill and black / high gloss details / elements) ride very nice, comfortable but also stiff enough, nice 8.4 navi, good speakers and so on.
You can always go with an aftermarket facelift..
Hello , very nice all around review . What is your your opinion for the 1.3 DDCT( dual clutch transmision) ? The DDCT dual gearbox works properly , smoth with accuracy ?
Great video but I thought from the intro you’d compare and contrast the trim levels. I see in the US the entry level trim is Sport, so I wanted to know if it was worth it to go entry level or higher trim.
Really a nice color, I would prefer a automatic version with 4wd, from the aftersales market.😉
Thomas. Hope you can mention toque figures (Nm) when you mention HP
Very good review Tomas. Jeep in UK comes with 5 years manufacturer's warranty but Lexus, a manufacturer renowned for making reliable cars only comes with 3.... !
thanks! same in Germany where Audi BMW Mercedes offer 2 years only
@@autogefuehl Yups, same goes for Belgium, also just 2y warranty, though I opted for an extention of 3y extra, which was an option.
Italians make the cutest cars. They made cute out of the mighty Jeep even! Imagine that! Gorgeous car this. I would prefer the 500x over Renegade though.
Italian cars are less reliable, I do not know about this one. I own a Volvo S60 2005 and still drive it. The only thing that went seriously wrong was an Italian part that the Swedes used. I had to change it at the dealer and it cost me a tonne of money.
The back lights remember the lights of the dacia duster >:D
Where do you think Dacia got that idea.. ;-) the new Dacia obviously took some inspiration on this one ;-)
Looks good. I'd never buy anything American made but it is one of the better looking small suvs out there....it has character
It's Italian-made ;-)
except MS Office, MC Donald, Andoid Auto, Apple Car Play , Coke, and of course Jeep haha
The Renegade is made in Italy and it's almost 100% FIAT -- only the Jeep badge is made in the US ...
Hello. Very good video. I think now the Renegade looks more mature and even if it is the smallest Jeep from the range it is a very good car in offroad. About the rear suspension I know it has an independent rear suspension and this is a very important fact in offroad. Is there a chance to see a video about FIAT Panda 4x4? Thank you very much!
Thanks, please recommend :)
We ll try
@Autogefühl You hit it on the head. Renegade isn't for wheeling Mont Blanc, but rather weekend camping and dirt road excursions.
Any Subaru’s in the future?
comparing this one with eclipse cross , just from the point of view of ride comfort and suspension and handling , any recommendations ?
Excellent presentation Thomas. A beautiful car with a lousy, lousy wheel handling.
This is the best car in the world 🙌👍👏❤
Made by the best car company in the world,, FIAT Chrysler , I heard they make the most reliable vehicles in the world,,,, I also believe in Santa Clause :D
Manny Echaluce I thought you were being serious at first 😂😂💀
@@mannyechaluce3814 ha! I own one but still I like it
I just boughtone for my first car, great vehicle.
I have owned Fiats and Alfa Romeos and they never let me down
@0:28 Damn! What happened to the "full lengs"?! :(
Hi thomas...how does it compare to the subaru xv? Which one has more space in front? Which one would you pick if the 2?
Hey, UA-cam search Autogefuehl subaru XV to compare
When will this launch in india?
Here in the US is not a very popular between he hard core Jeep community due to the Fiat 500. I personally like it, to me looks more Jeep than the Compass or Cherokee. The engine options is always a little disappointed, cause I know many people that will buy the small engines like the three cylinders option that you are testing. Gas prices are anymore that cheap and I think it would be the right thing to do to protect the our planet.
There's already rumors about hybrid-engines for this Renegade, which I guess is a perfect platform to test new tech out aswell as a new audience to the brand. I guess on that note, the Renegade fits perfectly well in Jeep's lineup.
And I'm pretty sure this model will grow on people and will also mature over time. It's clearly a new testingplatform to attrackt young newbuyers and enthousiasts for the brand.
It’s a real jeep if u get the trailhawk version
Thomas great video many thanks,
- how about test driving the "J E E P "in the mud. No need to bring the F.PR 7084 back clean
very cool small car
Great review but what is gasoline consumption?
we state that in every review, should be in it!
J’ai acheté cette voiture et j’en suis très contente. Un petit bémol sur la capacité du réservoir, seulement 45 litres de carburant.
Why didn’t you go more in to depth on the interior such as showing all the storage spaces, assistance system menus, information screen menus and so on?
there was an extensive part?
Thomas, what options made the price go up till +€30,000?
Winter tires + 18" rims, are an expensive upgrade for sure. But were these the only options checked?
Yeah and pano roof and infotainment
@@autogefuehl then if one would choose the standard, almost no options, it will drop below €25.000?
My question is actually, could you do a review of a standard version, an upgraded version and a top version of the same car? Not particularly this one. Just an idea for the future, so that one can actually see the real price difference and where all that money is going to when actually upgrading the car.
that should be possible. This was the closest to a standard version I could review. Manufacturers never hand out the basic trims
@@autogefuehl Ah I see, there's the marketing factor for car manufacturers when their car is being reviewed 🙂. Thanks for your kind answer, and nice that the idea is being considered. At this moment, watching the full review of the 3 Corollas 👍👌
Servus Thomas.
the best mini SUV price performance plus 3 years warranty better than Volkswagen's only 2 years warranty and expensive than Jeep
What is the light on the dashboard flashing?
The issue with jeep renegade is the renault engine. When i drive by free way the cars pass next to me, they move the car beacuse it to light, does not fell safe. Very eye candy it is, but not for travel.
India launch date and price
An American Jeep made in Italy and sold in Germany... Many a grandfathers wouldn't believe it. Times are much better.
There is nothing remotely American about the Renegade except the brand, which is now owned by Fiat. Its a sub-compact European style crossover (not even really an SUV) made by Fiat in Italy, so as long as you're cool with that.
Someone get Thomas a retractable tape measure.
Why? Thomas is a professional, I'm sure he owns a tape measure. But perhaps the ruler is to visualise?
@@puttaiyakumar5721 and yet he couldn't measure the width of that load bay properly....
:-)
Need two people to measure with a retractable tape.
@@lakshmandalpadado9066 err, no you don't. I use one every day and they don't retract until you press the button.
Something similar to E30 M3’s front end
1.5 ???
Tomas get yourself a good self-retracting metal tape ruler because your old-fashioned carpenter ruler doesn't look professional. It will also be very useful for domestic use.
is not Autogefuhl worried for article 13.
Are you very tall or car is short...?
You could have got some brighter luggage. Can't see anything in that dark boot
I love this car but 1.0 liter 3 cylinder 2WD in Jeep? Seriously?
Why not, the first editions had a 1.6L engine with 10bhp less and had lower clearance aswell as a higher weight in the front.
This 1.0 T3 engine, performs better, weighs less, consumes less and makes the car even more affordable and nimbler.
120bhp as a starterpoint for a car that weighs about 1320Kg /2910pounds (sport-version), makes it pretty nippy for such a small engine aswell, as many reviewers already showed.
Give it a small soft-tune and 150bhp is easily reached without any risk, which makes this a perfect engine for city-commuting.
Hell today carmakers push over 200bhp on a 1.5L turbo petrol... just saying ;-)
The original Jeep was underpowered as hell. But I agree, I even think the 2.4 liter that we get as a base engine in the US is severely underpowered, and its 180hp. Europeans have a tolerance for underpowered vehicles that Americans just can't understand.
@@BoopSnoot thing is probably the european eco-friendlyness that's the killer.
When going over 200bhp we pay thousands of taxes just the get the damn thing on the road ;-) and insurance is another thing.
When I was younger I had many greatly powered cars, it's just since the EU-norms became stricter it's been just not worth the money for a daily driver.
Mine is 2.4l 4x4.
Cute.Period
I personally always disliked how wheels look so small on this vehicle.
1st👍 Like the look, looks mad, has attitude, less cute. Thomas, I always know when I see your reviews they will be complete and spot on👍👍👍 And the steering wheel is on the correct side!!👍😂😂😂. Yes emergency braking system!!😂😂😂. I think you can set following distance for ACC. I also like upright A pillars, and you sit under the roof canopy, the windshield doesn’t go over your forehead, which to me, is too bright. I know 2 woman with jacked up Wranglers, that never go into 4WD. They go shopping.😂😂😂
=)
Why does it look like the suzuki?
I love the looks, but it gets lousy reviews: tries to be an off road and street vehicle both, but doesn't really succeed very well at either. It LOOKS better than the Kia Soul, but it's not a better car. It competes better with the Mini models that are the same size, but it doesn't drive as well on the street. And the Minis make no claim whatsoever to being off road. So, for city driving, I would go with either the Mini or the Kia. If you are going to do both off road and city, yeh the Renegade makes some sense. Otherwise, no so much.
Are you joking right? Have you checked what a trailhawk version can do even on an intermediate terrain? Check some of the off road reviews. You would be surprised. Of course you definitely need AT tyres.
I will NEVER have money to buy any of these cars, but I watch all the videos (insert the "it's something" meme here). And I'll give this suggestion again: A new TopGear with Thomas, Kimmi Raikkonen (or Nelson Piquet*) and Rowan Atkinson! *Really, watch "Shit Nelson Piquet says" on youtube, greatest Formula 1 troll ever!
Lol
If only Suzuki jimny comes in 4 doors like this one
Still love the old Suzuki Samourai though, from which the Jimny came...
A friend of mine had such a little 4x4 1.3L and we had loads of offroading fun with that one :)
Even today you can find those and if you restore it , it's still a lovely small offroader.
@@mrlooneycooney8948 I had a older jimny before , had so much fun with it but now having family it's not practical at all with it's 2 doors configuration and tiny space
Slightly less cartoon looking..which is a good thing. If only it had started it's life abit prettier it would have sold like hot cakes.
it is selling like hotcakes actually...just not for everyone ;-)
Oh my... I only watch him for his accent...
Jeep/Cheap Renegate
This car really has parts from fiat and renault group but looks nice anyway🤷
Jealous the European models have speed limit / road sign recognition
Auf Englisch?
Ja
Fiat have ruined the Renegade. This I hear is one of the most unreliable cars on sale today.
The first prefacelift had mainly troubles with the autotrans on the 2.4 multijet, mainly sold in the US.
Weird thing is though, besides some minor software-adjustments, they havent adressed this issue yet, setup stays the same, but problems are less and less. May well have been a producing-issue. We'll see, but it's still a very young model and those have always issues, no matter what brand.
Better buy Kia Seltos.
lol Jeep, more like Fiat 500XL with Visco-Kupplung
Jimny is more Jeep than this Jeep.
Kitna bolega tu...!
What a very odd looking design! Just looks a total mess on the side in particular! (PS love the review of course, just not my kind of car!)

Well, I still do not like it. Ugly as hell.
The desgin should have been much more aggressive with narrow window lines and a more boxy design, maybe some sort of tribute to the first Cherokee generation. But that`s just a personal opinion.
Who designs these cars. i mean dont they have eyes? are they designing these ugly cars on purpose so ppl wont buy them? i really don't get it
This is not a Jeep! Basically a Fiat Panda with everything else that’s FIAT as mechanicals. Rent it and do not buy one.
